Can we expect full graphics upgrade?

Returned for High Isles and must say, upon login the game demonstrated its age (when compared to other MMOs on the market).
A re-work of all the textures is not what I'm asking... thats just not feasible. How about the increasing the high detail draw distance? For static objects (buildings , terrain , etc) and players?

apart from draw distance they can improve shaders:
    - water
    - shadows
    - volume lighting and fog
    - grass
    - real footprints in the snow/sand
    - more particles from usual movements (like mud from under the hooves when riding a horse etc)

All this does not require redoing anything and everything. Just some shaders here, some small textures there. No more difficult than modeling a new Indrik

i realize they gotta accomodate console players. i dont see why they can't scale back the console client... just allow a high res texture package for PC players

But on the grander question - no, doubt it.
(personally, I think it looks great. But I'm not super picky. /shrug)

It's really just the older zones that need a re-texture and older furniture/motifs. If they just re-fresh/update the old textures everything will be in line with the newer zones/content. It's really jarring to see low res textures in one zone but then much higher ones in newer zones. All newer content has decent textures but older zones look so old and it really doe show its age.
Also if the re-shade mods don't affect performance like I've been told; why not make it base game?

They are seeming to go the FFXIV route and are slowly upgrading there visuals.

I know that several assets have been swapped out...take wolves for example. Of course Unreal Five has revolutionized migration they could save a lot of time and money and go that route.

Game still looks great. I’m curious which MMOs you are referring to. Outside of maybe Black Desert, ESO absolutely holds its own graphically and environmentally. The MMOs with the most staying power like WoW, ESO, FFXIV, RuneScape, SWTOR all show some element of age but still attract substantial player bases because they accommodate a wide range of system specs.

    You mean... this game? y6lrukkd5b0c.png

The one that looks like your typical mobile game? The one where you can't properly zoom into anything and if you did, you'd certainly see the real quality of the textures? The one where everything glows unnecessarily to cover up the blandness underneath? I mean, they have some locations with cool designs and they are smart about working with colors and contrast. AND they have the huge benefit of being top down. LA graphics are okay for a game released end of 2019. But they're nothing special at all.

ESO needs to take more inspiration from "bland" looking singleplayer games like Red Dead 2, while sticking to the usual Elder Scrolls art style. Not colorful Korean diarrhea.

In a couple of recent interviews in the past year or so, game director Matt Firor confirmed that there's no plans to overhaul the graphics or assets of ESO.

He said they're happy with recent improvements to ambient occlusion and reflections (The ones recently implemented in PC and for the PS5/Xbox Series X), and that low quality assets might be updated on a case-by-case basis. But nothing major or all at once.

I think it was this interview, and one in IGN that I'm sadly not able to find.

I'm not arguing against some touch ups, but for my dollar, I care if it WORKS. Daggerfall was a great epic game that I poured countless hours into. You could still play it today (if you could find it, and a machine to run it) and really enjoy it. However, compared to anything in the past ten years, it will look like hot garbage. And my find memories are likely colouring my opinion rosy. I like the pretties too, but good solid gameplay and robust servers and programming should always come first. I mean, 'beat yourself to death with a stick' provided some good times, and the graphics were a stick figure, with a stick. But it never crashed on me once lol.

Yeah outside of character creation/outfits, areas of the world in BDO can look pretty basic. Saying that though, it (along with some other mmorpgs) do have better animations when it comes to body mechanics of both player characters and mobs/animals. The mount riding movements, especially on horses in ESO are terrible.

I don't think just a visual/texture upgrade will fix some of the elements that make it feel oldish in areas. For the most part, it is still a fairly pretty game, and in 4k with some nvida filters on it looks as good as any from its era, especially in the newer zones

I'm not sure the game can handle more intense graphics at the moment. The devs are trying to lessen the load on servers, not increase it.

How big a file size are you willing to have to download? How long are you willing to wait for textures and objects to load in?

Personally I am fine with how it is for now. Maybe once we get great server stability they can look at graphical improvements. But for now I would like the game to be 100% functional before we try to make the game to look prettier.

Yeah the textures are fine. A 4k screen makes major improvements, not every game benefits as much as ESO does in 4k.
Also the game is very optimized after the multi-threaded update, utilizing 100% on a 3090. Play GW2 and see how bad the game does even after the DX11 update.

    UserSettings.ini, and change " SET MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS " value to -3
    - Make a major difference to texture load in. All players in high res textures is very nice.

First thing they should do is get rid of the fog. Makes open areas feel very bland if the draw distance is so low. New zones are a good bit better but far from great.

Another big issues are low poly assets but I dont have much hope that will change in older zones.

Major focus should be the PC EU server.

ESo actually do look great for its age. Out of nostalgia I tried to play Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons Online, but nope, these 2 are so dated that I just cant look at them anymore. Lineage2 still looks great despite of being the oldest mentioned.

Modernising the game and making it playable on older PCs are incompatible goals. If they tried to do both, one of those goals would suffer.

First thing ZOS should do is removing the annoying fog. It isn't tied to draw distance and it doesn't impact performance anyway so it's pointless to have it (the only advantage it gives is hiding ugly and pixelated skybox textures and map edges turning into the void). I can't imagine playing without Daybreak which removes the fog.

Exactly, I can understand maybe the older consoles holding it back but latest Gen consoles can do pretty much the same job as the average PC currently, obviously not powerful gaming rigs but it looks and plays great on a PS5 and doesn't need to be scaled down.
