Purchase More Character Slots?

I had 40 characters in City of Heroes across 4 servers, 32 on one server alone, it was all about trying new powerset combos.

Here, I could see a justification for the 12 character slots (total) that the OP is requesting. There are 3 factions times 4 classes equals 12 slots. You could even make an argument for races too, but really I think that most people will go with whatever is good for the class (note I said most).

I don't really see the need to mule anything (except the CE maps). There is enough storage and it's so easy to collect things that whenever I come to town I just provision what I can and sell the other provisioning things. I keep a stack of crafting mats in the bank (except provisioning and alchemy which I sell or give to guild mates) and sell off the excess.

Totally agree. I have 3 characters that I consider 'main' and only 1 mule. That's because the CE maps taking up inventory space is lame. So the mule holds the treasure maps and a few jewelry items.

As for creating character combos and deleting them, a lot of the abilities don't come into play until level 30-50. Just trying a character to level 10 or even 20 doesn't tell me enough about whether it's a good combo that I would enjoy playing long term or not.

Am I the only one who sees ESO as a premade F2P game?

Limited character slots, no bank space, expensive over top mounts, etc.

When they go F2P, they sure will have a lot of ways to make money.
Don't quite see it as F2P, more like a beta with half the features missing, game does need a store, and the bugs fixing, and more styles to craft, etc.

Different games have different amounts of character slots. EQ2 gives you seven total with your account. You can buy more for real money. Most games make you buy additional slots for real money, so I don't understand the "give me more slots for free" chatter. We will probably see this pop up on the ZOS store once things settle down. They need to work out the issues in game first.

I don't believe I've seen a subscription game that requires you to pay for extra character slots... we're paying $15/month for a reason. As soon as they start adding content that you have to pay real money for, that sub fee becomes excessive.

At the moment, with a Station Access account you get 12 slots on the US servers on EQ2.

The 12 slots is only for people who were grandfathered in years ago. The stock "All-Access Pass" hasn't had that since they lowered the price to $19.99. And now everybody that pays a sub is All-Access, but they only get 7 slots unless they fall under that special grandfather clause.

And Mark, if you want free extra slots you probably need to quit MMOs. I haven't seen one yet that gives you an in-game way of earning extra slots. (Well, Turbine games, but they nickel and dime you to death in other ways.)

I've seen a few that let you earn a free character slot or two. However it is rare.

I do think WoW got it right in the first place. Give 10 per server. Ofcourse it would help if i was not using a few characters as banks. :)

Swtor sells them via Cartel Market, which you can access in game, you used to be able to buy the cartel coins in game too(via credit card, but you didn't need to do it via website), but I think they shut that down.

Not sure any other game does it like that, and not necessarily suggesting ESO wants to do it that way, but not saying they shouldn't either.

Serious i think its a hidden way to try get more hirelings cause to get these 8 to vr10(12 even soon) you only can get done if you are a real life vampire and never see the sun cause to grind 1 to max without exploits etc is already a task alot of people find horrible.

I would like to have more character slots as well. I have several groups of friends that I like to level with, and I play other characters when they're not online. I want to be able to test different builds, play as different races, and use different skills. 8 characters total is just not enough for me. I can't even try all 10 races without deleting some of them!

No, I should just quit playing free-to-play MMOs. Oh wait, I don't even play f2p MMOs... I have yet to find one that I enjoy. And I have yet to run into the issue you are describing, having to pay for character slots. There's a reason I'm ok with paying a sub fee for this game, and if they start asking me to buy things like more character slots then they lose the need to charge a sub fee.

I've been playing MMOs for around 13 years since I started playing Asheron's Call and DAoC. Every MMO I've played has given me the option of creating nearly as many alts as I could ever want by allowing me a set number of characters per server, realm, alliance, whatever. There's no need to tell me I need quit MMOs simply because I have a differing opinion than yours and apparently tend to play a different brand of MMOs than you do.

I'm not asking for free slots in the sense that they just give us 4 more character slots for a total of 12, I'm asking for additional character slots in the sense that each alliance has a separate 8 character slots. Since this game is based off of a lot of concepts from DAoC, this is the sort of character slots I was referring to:
    mark2472 wrote: »
Why can't they at least do like DAoC did? DAoC allowed 8 (I think) characters per realm per server. This game only has two megaservers, but I would think they should at least be able to give us 8 characters per alliance on each megaserver.

Shouldn't be hard to add alliance selection to the character select screen. Click on DC? Show your 8 DC characters. Click on AD? Show your 8 AD characters. Click on EP? Show your 8 EP characters.

    Seems simple enough to me.

And this should be for free, not a cash shop option. The sub fee should cover additions like this.

And no, since we're paying a sub fee, I don't think they should be charging extra for this. I don't even necessarily need extra character slots as I don't have that many alts. However, I can see how some people may want to, so I offered up a suggestion for doing so.

I think this request is a little premature until someone convinces ZOS to limit crafting for players in a way other than through limited inventory space for materials because otherwise, this feature would be counter-productive to their design philosophy.

Personally I wouldnt mind being able to buy more character slots either, I am a very large altoholic, took me about less than 2 minutes to create all 8 chars, at least to save the names I wanted

On Lotro account I have about 100 chars spread over alle the servers, and mainly used them for crafting.
You can have a max of 17 alts over 29 servers for a total of 493 alts, so we have a long long way to go until that point.

But if the powers that be, think that many only want them to get more hirelings, they could make those slots unable to buy that skill for hirelings.

But with the hirelings I have atm, a couple maxed to 3 and the rest at 1, I dont get that many lagendary items, so I dont think that it will skew the market to much if they make it a max of 12 total alts ( And this is written in jest, perhaps even 15 for those of us preordered imperial edition, even if that wont happend )

To fix bag and bank space, all that they need to do is to give the bank specialized slots for cooking and enchanting.

A special slot for pets and trophies would be nice too.

I think it's sad, the number of people commenting to say "you must want to bot" or "you must want more characters to take advantage of hirelings" or "insert some other nefarious purpose here".

I have one empty char slot left. I have 4 that I play (only 2 are my crafters, the other 2 don't do ANY crafting), 1 that holds the CE maps, pets, and mats my 2 crafters can't use, and my 13 year old son uses 2 of my slots. I would like to experiment with other builds, as well, but as someone pointed out earlier, one really needs TIME to figure out if a build is worth playing. My highest lvl char is only 22, and I'm still not sure if the build is going to work out in the long run. The other 3 I play are hovering in the 10-12 range, so it is still way too early to tell how their builds will work out, especially since 2 of them are slightly gimped from having put almost all of the skill points in to crafting.

I don't see how having the option to have a few more slots is a big deal. I don't think I should have to pay extra for them, though, as we as a household have already purchased 1 CE, 1 Imperial Edition pre-ordered, and pay 2 sub fees (both 6 month sub's). I'd say that's plenty of monetary support to open up a couple more char slots.

    Tl;dr
Wanting more chars doesn't necessarily mean cheating/botting/exploiting. Some people like to play lots of characters, and play them slowly.

It's pretty simple to get extra slots at the cash store. They are kind of pricey but less than $10.00 USD per char slot and you get 8! for 59.99. WoW uses this same business model and they have made billions.

WoW also allows a set number of characters per server, right? ESO only has 8 characters altogether (unless you want to play on another country's megaserver, then you get 8 more for a total of 16).

@SirAndy‌ I don't at all blame you for making presumptions based on in game experience. You are absolutely entitled to do that.

My comment was more intended to point out that it's sad that our collective experience with the game seems to lead us to believe that if someone wanted more chars, it must be for the purposes of exploiting, rather than the simple purpose of enjoying the game.

I certainly don't judge you or anyone else for jumping to the conclusion that nefarious shenanigans are going on, though. Sadly, this is the state in which we are playing, and I can certainly understand why folks would jump to that conclusion first.

Carry on, good Sir! I must go die in an attempt to reach a Skyshard.....for the fifth time....

Me Neither, but some people are altaholics, and if they have another 4 (12 in total) they can do each class in each faction.

Not saying I want that many, in fact 4 is enough for me, one for each class, faction stuff is the same for every class so I'm not repeating (except for my nightblade).

Star Trek Online (a month after launch), Secret World (at launch), I think Age of Conan did before it went F2P. Champions Online did, while it was still a subscription model. Obviously, those are all F2P now (with TSW in a weird, semi-F2P state), Though Funcom gets special credit for having one of the most annoying character slot purchase systems I've ever seen in a game.

We already have a cash shop, it is only a matter of time before more things are put in it. Only the naive would think otherwise. Character slots are a given, other games have proven they are a sure sell. Just as long as they don't start selling gear and stick to vanity/cosmetic items we won't have to worry about p2w.

LOL,,,,About the same with for me with CoH plus I bought all the addons. Loved that game.

CE maps should be able to be collapsed back into their bags. Bags of Holding that hold 50 stacks of 50 mats/bag which could then be banked taking up one slot would solve the materials problem

NO NO NO. That would turn the game into p2w automatically because of the hirelings.

On the other hand more inventory space is certainly required.

Of course if you want more inventory space for money feel free to spend an extra $60 +$15/month.

How would it be P2W to sell the bank slots independently, but NOT P2W to sell additional accounts?

I really hope you were joking about the whole thing either way..
Hirelings? You can get more and better mats in a few minutes of harvesting than you ever will from a hireling satchel that you can only get every 24 hours.

The whole point of hirelings was to promote lower level crafters Improving their creations.
To get enough mats to fill a legendary set by just harvesting Jute - without exploiting the instant spawn patches - about 7 hours.
To get the same amount of legendary mats from hireling satchels assuming 2/day with 3/3 in the hire, assuming the Best 3 days of satchels I've had are Every 3 days...
About 8 and a half Months.
