Keyboard & Mouse on Console

A friend actually asked me about this and i've been curious ever since. I know that ESO has compatbility with keyboard & mouse usage on PS4/5 primarily for chatting/mailing/guild announcements, etc. Does it have use in combat though? Like can you readily use keyboard and mouse for gameplay on console?

No. Chatting is all there is atm. For the mouse to be usable the game has to be compatible, that is work needs to be done at ZOS's end. This is not the case yet. Heck we don't even have a reply to whisper function via keyboard. If we don't even have simple things like that atm, a mouse for combat is definitely out of the question.

Controller for 99% of the game and keyboard for chatting and you have it correct!!

I use the Hama speedshot ultimate keyboard/mouse converter on the old xbox one s. Also available for PS4.
It is connected to the controller, so you can use both.

Xim is more popular I think and has better firmware update support, I just bought the Hama as it costs just half.

A second keyboard is attached directly via USB for typing, no converter required.

XBox series s/x (the new ones) have inbuilt keyboard support but I don't know if ESO is supported, maybe PS5 is different from PS4, too in this regard.

Not sure if you mean something else but can do a lot of shortcuts on keyboard on console. If you get a whisper just hit /r to reply to last whisper.
