Another Oakensoul Post, but a positive one

I do seem to spend a lot of time complaining or pointing out issues that I feel need to be addressed, this is not one of those posts.

In it's current form, the Oakensoul ring seems to be doing exactly what was intended for PVE. Personally, using it will not increase my DPS, but for a lot of people I know who either have a disability, or are more of a casual player, we have seen a significant increase in dps in content.

Hopefully, this should allow those players access to content that have not bee able to participate in previously.

Anyway, I think this did and awesome job helping those people who were struggling, or felt unable to see content, they never expected to be able to do.

i dont have it, not really into chasing mythics.

but i do play with some older players and recommended it to them, as it should help their play!

i do wonder how much of the complaints is related to its strength, or that it can indeed raise the floor of player ability significantly, and that is a threat to better players. . .

It can increase your DPS in solo play a bit for some special cases. In group play with good players some of the buffs it gives you are duplicates of what you can get from group mates but when you're soloing it's tough to get all of those buffs with either one or two bars.

One bar builds are not new but some slotted passives or buff skills always took up one or two slots on the one bar making the rotation more like 2 or 3 skills and/or supplementing that with the consumption of expensive potions.

Where Oakensoul shines is in that those builds now can slot 5 skills that you would typically spread out over two bars on a regular build on one and you can just use the cheap vanilla potions. There's not as much need to make compromises for one bar builds with Oakensoul maybe leaving out AOE skills or executes or swapping skills for boss vs. trash fights.

There's definitely no "OMG nerf this, it's too OP!" about it. It's just a nice option for some builds for everyone and like you say, a very nice help for those who for whatever reason struggle with weapon swapping builds.

Additionally it also makes you less squishy and helps quite a bit with passive resource regen.

In relation to PvE, I definitely know some people who would have probably stuck around if an item that simplified gameplay for them was available. However as mentioned in another post, IMO it should not work in a PvP environment. It just gives way too much.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Many are saying that it will get nerfed because it provides too much buffs for a single piece of gear. However, I don't believe this would be the case.

To put in other words what OP said: it raises the floor, but not the ceiling.

    I doubt that's nerf territory.

I hope you're right. I don't want it to become a shadow of its former self by the time I get High Isle.

I just unlocked it last night but haven't tried it yet.

I've always struggled with rotations and bar swapping, so I'm hoping it will just help me be me more effective whilst using just one bar. 😏

Yes, as a mediocre player that just doesn't have the fast reflexes and reaction time for gaming anymore the Oakensoul has given me a much-welcomed boost.

I won't say it's overpowered because it does halve the number of skills available to use. I do have to think carefully about which skills I want to use, but at my age I'm more about thinking and less about fast reactions now anyway lol.

I'm hoping I'll be able to get it before long - I'm older, my reflexes are slow, my internet sucks, bar swapping isn't possible for me, and the combat is not what I'm really comfortable with.

I haven't even looked at where all the leads are from, as I knew I wasn't going to mess with the one in Murkmire for a long time.

Three leads are very easy to get:

    1. Volcanic Vent group events in High Isle and Amenos
    2. Any ore nodes (not jewelry nodes though) in Glenumbra
    3. Any mob in Malabal Tor

The 4th is a drop from the world boss at Mudcrab Beach in SW Stormhaven. It's a pretty easy boss and at the moment its camped fairly heavily so you shouldn't even have to solo it if you go now.

The 5th is the infamous one from Murkmire safeboxes and whatever the new thing is (thieves troves?)

Make no mistake, Oakensoul is overpowered in PVP and will be nerfed because of that.

The balance in PVP has become so bad it's reached a point where unkillable builds are common, and Oakensoul makes 'God Mode' massively more accessible.

An obvious solution would be to make it a PVE item only, or at least reduce it's effectiveness in PVP only.

As a PvE only player, I am currently testing the oakensoul ring on two of my characters. A mag DPS, and a sta DPS. The ring is ok, it does not buff my damage in any way, but it does give me slightly more resource regens and some protection. And it allows me to no longer focus on pre-buffing before a fight.

Love seeing the amount of buffs in the characterscreen!

PS: Don't nerf this ring again, just disable mythics in PvP entirely. Or we will run into this issue on any future mythics again and again.
