You are so wrong... meta will shift soon, once people starts to understand this game better. So far its all about rushing, but I cant remember when was the last time someone managed to beat me with Crow or Pelin-rush, it must have been on the first or second day of the expansion. They are so easy to counter.

Rajhin's bewilderment can be a real pain, choking your deck and reducing your combos. When Bragas said during the introductory game, that power is for combat, I didn't know what he meant - the Rajhin deck explains why he said this.

I am one of those who didn't expect to like it but now I'm addicted. I can't seem to progress higher than halfway through the Ebony Rank but its creeping up the more I learn. I've also got to a point to where I don't fear RNG as much because I figured out a way to fight it as long as it is not to good for the other player. Even though at this point I only have the starter decks, I really love it when I get a match where Pelin or Duke sets are not picked.

The other definition. "Take risky action in the hope of a desired result".
Buying loot crates is you taking a gamble that you'll get what you want. The entirety of Tales of Tribute is you taking a gamble that you'll get what you want, and that your opponent doesn't.

Meta doesn't shift until ZOS makes changes, which they might, but who knows. Probably nothing too drastic because they probably don't want to spend too much resources on something that's just suppose to add flavor, not become the next big hit. Best thing they can do is not change the cards, but up the amount of Prestige it takes to win, that way early game Beat Down strat's aren't the most dominate strat for clear reasons. Instead, patient players with decks that take time to build up can stand a better chance, even if RNG isn't on their side in the beginning.
Again, I won't deal with hypothetical situations because you can do that in favor of any deck (cept Blue cause they're trash, lol). If you haven't lost to a Red or Purple deck after your first or second match, congrats, I hope you can keep it up and climb the LB's. But let me know what the strat is and how much impact RNG has on it, lol.

Hard to fully enjoy a game where luck is the most important factor to win. Even harder is to keep playing after losing 3, 4, 5, 6 times in a row cause your opponent always gets the best cards. If it weren't for the rewards and the achievements, I prob wouldn't play that much

I see no reason why the game would need a change. All sets have their focus and a few especially powerful cards in them, which support the main purpose of that deck. If both players go for basically the same strategy, then the game gets boring, and I fear a lot will just do that and therefore they think the game is RNG and overall boring. But it is not the game which would be boring, but a rather bland and dull way to play it. ToT is a quite dynamic card game and you have to be flexible in your approach and adapt to lucky and unlucky streaks - overall those will balance out, but your results shouldn't. And this is a matter of how well you can adapt your game play to the situation on hand - to bend it in your favor despite the odds.

And that is what makes it interesting to play - whilst following a meta is just lame.

I tried it by doing the tutorial, which was absolutely terrible. There was no explanation by what certain cards do, or what the numbers mean, or why you should play a certain card, etc. I did finally complete the tutorial, but had absolutely no idea why I had won. Then I went to try one of the novice games and just couldn't get the hang of it, so I finally gave it up. I may try it again later, but for now, it's way on the backburner. So don't purchase the chapter for the card game as you will probably be disappointed.

The game is RNG central, it's not a game of skill or anything like that.

Everyone knows which cards are the best it's a question of who can buy them when they show up and after that it's a question of when they're drawn after the deck is shuffled.

In a card game with such a high degree of luck you usually get a fold option but when a match goes south after your opponent has so managed to buy every Duke of Crows card that's shown up due to the RNG being such a core aspect of the game you can't even concede the match without incurring a 10 minute penalty.

It's the equivelent of stretching a series of dices rolls into a 10 minute game.

So about 1/3 is positive about ToT and 1/4 haven't tried it yet. That is not too bad, could be tens of thousands of players in favor of ToT. Now when those drop out, who are just power-playing it for achievements, we might end up with enjoyable ranking tournaments among those, who really enjoy playing the game. I actually thought it would be less successful.

You have to play it for a while (and lose quite a bit) before it opens up and gets fun. The starter decks are just training wheels.

It's a bit of a shame a lot of people won't get beyond the initial impression that it's just RNG (because it does look like that, when you start playing- I thought so too), but when the other decks come into play it starts getting interesting.

I totally agree now that the meta will shift- and it's too bad people won't stick around to see that happen. It's only been 2 weeks and already I see players that have the option moving away from the Duke/Pellin decks.

People in this thread who are saying it's not just luck and RNG are right (and they're not saying it just because they're lucky), but you have to suffer through the initial phase to get to the point of understanding that. Learning what moves to make usually involves having those moves used against you- if you're competitive, that's not a deterrent, but it's hard not to feel like you have the worst luck in the world and it's not worth it.

On the plus side, people who first try the game in a month or so in PvP will be coming into a totally different scene (and have 8 decks to memorize instead of 4), so maybe those folk will have a better start at it.

I think the good games make the bad games worth it. I have faced plenty of the bad RNG games, and sure, they're frustrating, but then you get matched with someone who plays with a little panache and it's way more fun. Even better if you wind up beating them after a long, thoughtful game.

I've gotten tells and mails (and someone even tracked me down on a huge discord) from opponents to let me know they really enjoyed a particular match.

It's like getting ganked by an NB out of nowhere vs. a well matched 1v1 in Cyrodiil. And like there, I don't give a toss about leaderboards. I just look forward to the good fights and dust the gankers off.

Initially, khajiit was unimpressed, when he first heard that this chapter's big addition was going to be a card game. Perhaps he is old-fashioned, but this one does not mix dice with his cards, and he does not mix card games with his role-playing games. That is not what we did in the 80s, and we were fine, yes?

When khajiit saw demonstrations of game, he was even less impressed - was difficult for this one to follow. "Bah, this is shennanigans. At least there is Ember" was this one's recurring thought.

But then, Karth played Tails of Tribute for the first time yesterday, and this one is big enough to admit when he is wrong, which he was, so very wrong, about ToT.

Is a delightful game! Khajiit is just glad he leveled up Ember to Companion. Now she does not get crabby getting khajiit his drinks while he spends all day on his butt playing card games.

The only bad thing is that you often knows who will win in the first round.

That's something impossible on Elder Scrolls Legends. On ESL everything can change in the last 2 rounds, on ToT the winner is decided in the 2nd round. But... maybe they can fix it one day.

It's unbelievably tediously slow against players, and it's unnecessarily tediously slow (lots of slow animations and delays) against NPCs. The tutorial doesn't appear to be skipable either. You can't even check things like mail or notices whilst you wait for it to churn through it's card animation.

The NPCs at least on low level are completely cluleless but there is no path to faster levelling of the skill even though I beat them something over 95% of the time. So for me it's a somewhat tedious grind game to get some of the recipes and plans, plus other sellables like the odd chunk of dragon rheum.

If they'd fix the basic UI stuff like the forced slowness of the NPC play and the ability to read your mail at the same time it wouldn't be so bad.

Got to rubedit rank for the trophy and now im glad that i have never to do this again...its only sad that this minigame has the only competetive leaderboard in the game.

Dont get me wrong i love card games, but the game failed every aspect that made other card games out there so great:

    1. You dont have any motivation to get new decks or upgrade the old ones (beside the trophys) since everything gets mixed anyway so why should i care ? in the end my oponent may very well win because he got the upgraded card from my deck
    2. Its pure luck based. I know every card game is luck based, but normaly if you carefully craft your deck (how many copys of a certain card you want in your deck etc.) you can influence the outcome. Not in this game because its pure RNG. You cant influnence the card that show up in the tavern. And whats even worse you cant even be sure what cards show up in your deck since it gets shuffled every new turn.
    3. The tavern mechanic and the ballance: This one sort of goes hand in hand. Eso allready struggles to ballance the main game, so how can we expect to ballance a game inside the game ? When i play a game of ToT both sides just try to get the meta cards of the game, if you have a base game (blue/yellow/purple/red) most of the players will try to get the red and the purple cards (with some exception here and there)and the first one to get a strong card wins most of the time. The player who is behind needs to buy the crap cards in the tavern in order for a better one to show up, but since he had to spend gold on doing so its more likely that the winning player will get the desired cards.
    4. The long turn times against players...
    5. And lastly it sort of bothers me that we dont have an competitive leaderboards for the actual pvp content (salty pvp player here :D )

I think the game would be better if every player could choose 2 colors and had their own tavern this would reduce the rng a little bit and made it less frustrating.

My friend who PvPs was super excited about ToT with me but when it dropped she watched a bunch of YouTube videos and the creators there said the game sucked so now she won’t even play it and learn the game. I told her there’s so much depth to the game and it’s more than just spamming cards. There’s strategy with all the different deck combos but she’s still super hesitant about ToT and would rather Zerg in cyro all day :/

I clicked on just anything and sometimes it did something that I didn't even know what the hell was happening, and sometimes nothing happened and I still didn't understand why. I won the tutorial without even knowing what the [snip] I did.

How do you track "prestige?" How do you know what the score is at any given time? There was nothing onscreen to let me know who the hall was doing what and how the score stood.
