I have to echo this. I have run Oakensoul just to test out a solo build for questing, soloing dungeons, world boss fights, etc. for a couple days now and it pales in comparison to pale order (no pun intended) IMO. Well, pale order + having two bars.

I think Oakensoul is interesting, and certainly for questing it's a neat lazy build item and was fine. But when I got to stuff I had to work at a little more, like world boss fights by myself, I ended up swapping back to pale order after a few wipes. Having more options between single target and AOE at the same time + having more self healing coming in off damage (and I was using funnel health and the CP that heals with Oakensoul and it wasn't nearly enough). I one shot the fight with little trouble using pale order and my regular two bar build. Was a very noticeable difference, especially considering if you are already used to even a half hearted rotation, you'll have most of the buffs up anyway that oakensoul gives you.

I do think it will be good in some very specific builds on very specific classes, but after a couple days of use, I already dropped it for my regular solo build and went back to pale order.

Edit to add: tbh, if I were going to drop pale order for easier content like questing, I'd wear Ring of the Wild Hunt over Oakensoul. You are more efficient moving around faster between fights than finishing an already easy fight a second faster b/c of more damage.

As someone said in another thread in another forum where these things are also discussed, this is reminiscent of the early EQ or classic WOW competitive quest mini-boss NPC tagging, first gen MMO kind of jank.

Worse actually, since in those situations the positive result was guaranteed without RNG on top of the tagging competition and you could also group up.

I even saw this happen a couple of years ago in WOW classic in the Alliance human starter area and I was blown away by how polite people were, forming a literal queue - players lined up behind each other with the one at the front creating a group of the next 4 behind them to ease the pain a little. It was a remarkable example of good community working together to ease a pain point in the game.

Can't do that here. It's just everyone for themselves creating at the very least bad vibes in a PvE zone thanks to this 1st gen MMO design.

Also... no one should go around "victim blaming" the early adopters who want this ring right away. The incentive to want the ring and the mechanics for getting were both created by ZOS - no one should be blamed but them.

I've seen similar behavior in Final Fantasy XIV during the first few days of a release where everyone is bunched up in the starting area.

I suggest the developer actually log into the game and actually try to obtain this ring lead ... They can then witness for themselves the absolutely toxic gameplay environment unleashed upon the players ...
