By the way you opened the post, I suspect the language - and communication in general - you have used are a major part of the story which we do not have. You do not need to precede a statement with qualifications when the statement is a universal experience. Its okay just to say “I’m a busy person without much time to play.” We all understand a statement like that, and most will relate with their own obligations of career, family, medical, etc. When you add qualifications to universal experiences, it’s as if to say, “unless you have better-or-equal-to qualifications, your experience is diminished.” It’s not impressive, and comes across as gauche - even crass.

    easy way to solve this
    is
to be nice learn empathy think about all suffering , things people been through in there lives just beacuse we all have diffrent pasts does not mean we have had it all good, we have all suffered in are own ways.. please learn to be nice if can .. think before make some one upset or cry..
the list goes on people are sensitve than other..people and some people push people by saying things like learn to take criticize more... or they moan and use narsistic abuse mentally making people feel like they bad when thats not the case .. we all have are weaknesses and postive achievments in life.. and really we all learn diffrent.. if anything we all have diffrent ways of gaming .. some more serrious than other but that does not give you right to be so mean.. well can be if want to but in long run you find out you will have too change a bit.. find ways be less mean maybe..
its sad that people are mean .. and there are good people alot them .. but then one can bring its tumbling down.. make you not wanna play but you know what we always come back stronger.. we care about are toons and are friends.. we good people want to enjoy are gaming and really we ignore the a holes in any games.. we be happy no matter what.. this is the way..

Honestly, you are in the wrong type of guild. There are good guilds and bad guilds and it can take a while to find one that fits. I have been in bad trade guilds, but the one I am in now is fantastic. I am in 5 guilds. One is kind of toxic, but I stay in them for people for randoms and trials, the other 4 I picked and are friendly.

I'm going to stand up for trading guilds here because I see several blanket statements that trading guilds are horrible environments.

Maybe it's a difference between console and PC. Both trading guilds I'm in are highly active with their membership, outside of trading, though trading is the primary focus. They have auctions, raffles, and events. The auctions and raffles help offset the trader cost. The events are to get the membership involved and talking. Our Discord is lively, and both guilds shut down disrespect quickly. If someone needs help, there is usually someone who lends it. The rules are clearly stated from the outset via in game mail, a web site, and Discord, so members know what is expected of them, and what to expect of the guild.

Having said that, some of our officers are in the trading guilds that are more aggressive, and they can confirm the hostility and rigid requirements. So, to repeat numerous folks here, and I liked this one the best, "find your people." We're not without our issues. I'm sure some of the members we've removed would have an opinion to share about us, but they can't say they weren't informed prior to their actions.

When it comes to mind, I still chuckle about the one guy who popped into one of my social guilds. He asked if it was the type of guild where he could be an a-hole and talk smack. That kind of forthrightness is much appreciated, and we quickly determined we weren't a fit for him, nor he for us. I directed him towards trial guilds because (blanket statement warning!) they tend to foster that sort of communication / camaraderie, and generally have thicker skin.

Guilds with weekly "dues" are a red flag. There are plenty of trading guilds with well placed store NPCs that don't have any weekly requirements other than just weekly login activity..

I think this is a bit of an incorrect generalization. I've been a part of plenty of guilds, with dues, that also don't put up with the toxic BS the OP experienced.

Mudcrab Chitten is one of those really annoying ingredients. Not hard to get in small quantities, but annoying to farm in large quantities. Anyone that does a lot of writs can't seem to keep it around, so the price is higher than you would otherwise expect. Its one of the handful of ingredients I occasionally need to buy to sustain writs on multiple toons.

Definitely one of those ingredients that people will hoard and try to sell for high prices during things like the anniversary event. Not saying they were right, but I can see how asking for mudcrab chitten specifically could raise an eyebrow or get an unusual reaction.

Either way, some guilds are great, some are terrible. Just need to find one that fits your needs. One bad guild doesnt mean they are all bad.

You should think about playing on PC instead. I use a controller so it works just fine. And people are nice and helpful, probably a bunch of people replying who can invite you to guilds with good people in them.

I will never understand why those who have a lot won't help those who don't. Me personally, I've helped innumerable people over the years with gold, mats, advice, crafting, dungeons etc. Kindness brings forth more kindness which is one of the main things lacking in the world right now.

If you ever feel like jumping on PC instead, I'd be more than happy to help you out since I'm a grand master crafter.

I've found one thing to look for.

In any guild posting either in General/Zone or their recruitment posts. If they say anything about being an all "inclusive" guild stay away. Just turn and run. This always leads to people mirroring society today where no matter you say it's going to offend somebody.

the guilds that don't have that or have 18+ or something will normally still control / remove people for actually bullying or being one of the many terms people use today, but you also know you're joining a guild where you're going to hear jokes you don't like, or even comments you don't agree with but you joined knowing this.

    Hello:
Once again guilds have left me with a bad taste in my mouth and have soured me on even playing this game as a mmo and simply doing solo quests and content, I am a 60 yr old veteran and family man. I have a 33 yr old autistic son who has 2 master's degrees and teaches middle school science. I am a supervisor for a very well known company and have been for over 7 yrs. My game time is my relaxation time and no I don't always know what stuff is worth, what the mechanics of a dungeon is or where to locate things at times.
    [snip]
My point here is simple..I am DONE with these big guilds who think they can control everything in a video game cause at the end of the day its a video game end of story.
I am on the ps4 na server and from now on if I need something I will simply get it.....IF I decide to sell something I will sell it at cost for little or no profit or goodness forbid I WILL PROBABLY SIMPLY GIVE IT AWAY...keep your trading guilds and your so called friendly social guilds I don't need them! It is my honest opinion that guilds as a whole are the main reason MMO's get such a lousy reputation.....oh and PS to the guild that kicked me tonight thanks for the extra cash I'm sure me and my 7 maxed characters will put it too good use by actually helping someone who deserves it. Have a nice day!!!!

Sounds like a Console issue to me and not a guild issue. Consoles = Younger, more immature players, judging from all I've seen and heard. I run a guild on EU, and originally ran two guilds, both EU and NA. I've never had to be asked for money back from players who leave shortly after making a donation. I always email their gold back. Sorry to hear you've run afoul of some *** players, but I'd suggest it's more to do with the platform you play on than Guilds in general. JMNSHO

Tonight I simply asked for some Mud crab Chitin for a writ and I was more then wiling to pay for this. I was then accused of scamming cause I had asked before for something in zone and guild. Now true i am learning alchemy and enchanting as well as jewel crafting so I don't know all the mats and what they are worth and I had asked. All they had to say was hey man np how much you need and then tell me what it would cost and thats end of story.
No they didn't instead they proceed to bash me in open guild chat and talk to me like im some sort of criminal, finally i said ok fine whatever I pulled all my items from their store and since I had only been there a little over a week and had not really sold much I requested my donation of 8k back. Course they refused but I was not really expecting them to do it I was just being as obtuse as they were being at this point. Long story short they kick me and some dude pays me 16k which I did not ask for I only asked for my original 8k donation...My point here is simple..I am DONE with these big guilds who think they can control everything in a video game cause at the end of the day its a video game end of story.

just to play devils advocate ---- area chat is filled with people asking for a few items knowing that multiple people are going to send them --- i have seen them do this is every zone --- it could be that they thought that is what you were doing.

I'm sorry this happened too you, but we did not need the entire life story before all this. It just reads as sympathy bait.

Some people are rude in games, but I'm not making any judgement on them when it sounds like you just want sympathy for being an older player and we get 0 of their side of the story.

Their response was definitely exaggerated, but I don't think it's fair to completely swear off of trading guilds over something like this. Also, not trying to put the blame on you, but we don't have any details about how you asked for the ingredients, wording is important, especially when you only have text to communicate. Not to mention, trading guilds sort of expect you to use guild stores, rather than asking around for items, especially if they are strictly trading guilds and not a trading/social mix.
Regardless, I think this is just an isolated episode, and most definitely isn't representative of most guilds, and even then, with any social circle it's always trial and error, you wade through the mud until you find the one that is right for you.
Also, your prideful "vengeance plan" of giving to the poor isn't gonna change anything, if you want to do that out of your own kindness, that's ok, but if you think it's gonna make them change their mind or something like that, it ain't happening. Thing is, the really big trading guilds don't just think they control the market, they actually do control it, so I doubt something like that is gonna teach them anything.
One final note, since you mention that you are learning alchemy, if you need to look up recipes, just refer to the "Formulae" section of this link: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Alchemy.

Actually, as a final final note, I don't quite understand why you felt the need to tell us your life story, none of the information you mentioned has any bearing on what transpired, so just feels like a weird appeal to emotion.

People don't always realise you can type the details of the item you are trying to sell directly into the TTC website to get a price- you don't need an add-on to use Tamriel Trade Centre
That works for PC. Not so for Playstation (and the original poster specifically said PS4).

I checked the Tamriel Trade Centre website before I posted this and there is an option for PlayStation

Now that you mentioned it I tried that option out and the last listings are from a year ago by the ghost 2019. If the PlayStation option doesn't work then they should remove it from the website so I don't see it and assume it works.

The OPTION is there on the website; but since you can't do the TTC add on that publishes automatically listed/sold items amounts; it is not the same experience as for PC. In order for it to work for Console, the seller has to manually update TTC website with the price and that rarely happens....so it might look the same; but it absolutely is not.

That seems to be a good way to keep enough for dailies, at least for me.

I wish I had a really good farming location and I suspect Mudcrab Chitin could sell for a bit since it is rarely listed, but right now I just need enough for my own uses.

Took me awhile to find one guild that was up to my standards, but I am there as long as they are.

The other 4 are trading guilds, used for that purpose and the data for master merchant. Chat is not even turned on for those guilds. I have nothing to do with them but sell my stuff.

First, I am old as well (older than OP) and the only reason I get into a guild is if they have a trader. And then I stick with that guild and sell all my stuff on the one guild trader. Anything more (interactions, group stuff, whatever) is just gravy. I help out when I can and if I need something but they dont have it, I find it elsewhere.

I don't see the need for a tight bond with the Guild. As such, if for some reason i get booted, Its no big deal. I will find another Guild to suit my needs and not think twice about the previous one.

I dont let other people Dictate my enjoyment or lack of it. On rare occasions I will block someone, but that is an extreme action in my opinion.

Trials events are not all that social. Sure, some folks have conversations or comments, but it is mostly listening to the raid leader regarding strategy and tactics. I have been in Raid groups with peeps who have never said anything and it is all good. All you need is coms to listen.

All the qualifying statements have no bearing in the topic. Im also a veteran im also busy with life as well. Theere are plenty of helpful guilds out there, so generalizing all of them is crazy. Also your wording about the chitin could be better. Willing to buy is much better than I need. People have been scamming in this game from the get go and people are cautious nowadays.
Find a guild that meets your needs either trading or social.

Communicate better. Again they are also people and may have circumstances in their life as well.

Weed out the toxic people. There are more nice people in this game than toxic ones. But if you start off like you did with the original post you won't find them because they will weed you out.

Worse comes to worse just kill some mud crabs and your initial problem would have been resolved. They are everywhere and it would have taken less time to get the ingredients you needed than getting so frustrated that you had to post this.

Again find a social guild, there are plenty of them out there. Im not on PS or I could give you 5 off the bat. Use band or another social app to find one. Use the forums they have a recruiting section. They are out there and you may have to go through a few to find a fit but in the ned its worth it. This game is social and being solo all the time doesn't work well.
