Level Up Advisor

I'm just asking out of curiosity for a bit of discussion here:

Has anybody who has built a new character used the level up advisor - whether it's one of the "initiate" lines for a standard build or one of the more specialised Tank / Healer / sDPS/ mDPS.

Did you find you stuck to the recommendations in skill points?
Was there a point where you started allocating skill points outside the recommendations?
How do you rate the advised builds within the level up advisor?
Do you still run the character / toon as the advisor recommended - or have you tweaked or reinvested skill points?

Personally, I ended up turning the level up advisor off (just my preference) and found the game much more enjoyable as I was then not getting anxious that I was investing in skill lines that were not typically suited for that particular class / role e.g. dest-staff for Mag-DPS.

Currently I run a Kahjit sDPS warden, I've invested in just Animal Companions and a bit of Green Balance (haven't bothered with Winter's Embrace at all). I have medium armour and I'm rocking a two handed sword on both bars.

And I love it! I do love the freedom that ZOS has given us to do things like that. I'm not experienced enough to really understand the comments on balance and stuff getting nerffd etc - I just like to enjoy the game..

As someone who has been with the game long before the advisor system even came out, but has gone through multiple new characters using it in different ways, I think I have enough perspective to have a decent take on it, so here goes:

-It's mostly for players that don't know at all what they're doing. The kind of people who go into the game and - before even starting to try and make a character themselves - ask their friends "what is a good class and race to pick?" benefit greatly from a system with directions like this.

-It provides a decent list of roughly synergistic abilities. While not meant for really interesting builds, the advisor does give a general list of skills to use that will help create a fairly balanced character. Using the advisor helps prevent people from locking into a build that will just fail them in certain scenarios, like some of the builds I made before I knew what I was doing.

-The advisor skills will fairly often line up with skills that "good" builds use. It's not that the advisor offers finely tuned builds, but it will more often than not put up a good base with which to tweak as one becomes a more experienced player.

-Players who understand the game systems already will not really benefit from the advisor. It will sometimes turn them away from good builds in favor of having them spec into general skills, or in favor of trying out class abilities that help showcase class specific flavors, instead of skills that make the build stronger statistically.

-The advisor is still no replacement for other players and resources that help you make meta builds, or show you how to build a character. Even after using the advisor in different ways for different characters from level 1 to champion 160... I can say for certain that I learned a bunch more about what I need for a good build by referencing AlcastHQ and other online sources like it.

-It's best, if using the advisor, to mostly stick with it outside of maybe a favorite skill, or two at most. If moving away from using the skills advisor, it's usually best to go all the way and make your own build. The advisor does not help in the slightest if you kind of use it and kind of don't.

I was a player who had no clue almost 4 years ago now, so it helped me with the first character and numerous alts the first, oh probably year. I hardly use it any more now though (especially since probably a year or more ago I returned to running hybrid builds as I'd always done before landing in ESO).

It's really annoying that you can't disable the "Turn on Advisor" message in the character screen though.

I've used it. I played the game before it existed but took a long break, after which all vanilla classes had been thoroughly reworked to make them each viable in every role and there were 2 new classes to play. So the number of ways to play the game had massively increased and I was a bit lost, so I used to advisor.

No, I didn't stick to them.
Yes, there was a point where elsewhere, but it in a different morph or different ability altogether. This happened very shortly after I started using them because I just didn't agree with their suggestion.
    I rate them a solid 6 or 7/10.

Nope, advisor is still screaming at me to remorph a good few of my abilities, and I've slotted loads of different abilities.

I don't find the advisory builds particularly effective nor fun. I'm much happier going my own way. And absolutely loving the hybridisation changes - which don't at all seem to have been accounted for in the build advisor

Its existence tells a brand-new player that building for a role is a thing. If it only achieves that much, it's good.

i personally never used it and turned it off immediately on new toons lol

but i could see it being of some use to a brand new player who doesnt have friends to give them help/suggestions

I don't stick to the suggested skills, but I do consider them.

For one thing, the advisor doesn't include any miscellaneous skills, such as crafting-related skills. Even if you want to stick to its suggestions as closely as pissible, that doesn't mean you shouldn't occasionally pick other skills that it doesn't suggest.

But besides that, I sometimes want to go with different morphs than the ones it suggests.

I think it provides a decent baseline of skills from which to start, as determined by your chosen race, class, and role. But that shouldn't stop you from deviating from its suggestions in accordance with your personal preferences in relation to the type of armor, type of weapon, and type of fighting style you like, or other choices about the specific character you're creating.

Seems like most of you are in agreement with my own preference.
It does serve very well for a total beginner at pointing them towards the different skill lines and to get them to start thinking about where to commit perk points and place on the bar.

I enjoy reading other people's perspectives on it.
