I was hopeful for about twelve hours. Skills are finally going off in Cyro but disconnects and “lOsT lObBy CoNnEcTiOn” at big fights still seem to be common.

Mostly the same so far, except…. Multiple instances of loooooong load screens. No pattern, but leaving house, exiting outlaws’ refuge, or just porting between wayshines usually normal but sometimes taking 90+ seconds. Did not have any problems like this before today’s update.

90+ seconds is quick. I have zone load screens take 5+ minutes half the time.

90+ seconds is normal, 5+ minutes is slow. Low system specs including drive and memory, full quest journal, and loads of addons can all increase load times.

I'm not sure what the OP is actually asking. Matt Firor himself specifically posted this hardware replacement was for RELIABILITY as parts were getting old, and that it would not improve performance at all. It is just so things don't break down due to age.

So knowing there was never a possibility of it improving performance of the game experience, and that you were never going to notice any change in day to day activities, is the OP asking if we APPRECIATE the server hardware replacement?

By asking if we like the "new" servers it implies they did something to upgrade the servers which is simply not the case. These are NOT "new" servers. They are the SAME servers with replacements to some of their parts. There is nothing "new" for us to like or not like. They literally just replaced some older parts with newer ones, but the new ones were exactly the same, just new.

Computer parts aren't like car parts. You can't have a hard drive that has bare treads like an old tire. So, replacing an old hard drive doesn't make you handle better, or allow safer breaking or driving in bad weather. It literally changes nothing, other than making it less likely to totally fail. In computers, hardware is either in a 1: WORKING state or a 2: BROKEN state.

There is no 3: WORKING WITH DEGRADED PERFORMANCE state in computers. In other words, there is no "damn, transmission is going bad" in computers where parts gradually break down and cause increasing performance loss like with mechanical/analog machinery. Especially now where hard drives are mostly solid state, removing the last mechanical component from the digital system.

So again, if knowing this OP is asking if we appreciate them swapping out old hardware, I am sure everyone can agree it is better than risking unexpected maintenance for a random dead drive. But to imply the servers are "new" or that performance was ever expected to improve due to this maintenance suggests a misunderstanding of the dev's own stated purpose.

I think you miss understand how server upgrades work, when they are 7 to 10 years old they are not replacing parts with the same but new parts. My understanding is they completly replaced the hardware, so they would be "new" severs.

My guess to why thay said what they said about the server upgrade is they didnt want to get poeple hopes and dreams up for something to not go right, they %100 would of know this was going to have a impact on performance but prob didnt know by how much.

All so your statements on how pc hardware works isnt %100 true, at best is misleading. they can be performance impacts from older hardware. one example of ths is thermal paste/pads can degrade over time. all so they statment that pc parts just work or dont work with no middle ground is all so not true, things like cps are mostly like that Yes. but other parts like PSUs, MOBs and ram can hace problems while still mostly working.

You might want to check your facts befor trying to correct some one.

CPUs and ics in general suffer electromigration. Is more or less common in 8+ years CPUs, and in some specific CPUs (even in low speed xeons like 2630 and 2650) or in most overclocked CPUs (if increasing vcore). The symptoms are similar to a weared ssd... The server works, but works slow while having the same loads. Then you replace the CPU by the same model but a new one and u have a lot of perfomance improvement. I dont know which servers are using, but from that era (2012) e5-2650 was very popular and i have replaced some for electromigration. But well... Replacing a 2650 with a 2650 would be just stupid nowadays lol (i must have like a dozen in any drawer xd).

But well... They begun all this mess in 2007, so I wouldnt bet all their servers are from 2012, where tons of RAM and CPUs where "cheap" and even we had intel ssd (more or less reliables)... I would bet there are many 16-48/RAM little bichis with those crappy lsi raid 10 controllers. Well... Fortunately, things have changed a lot from that era lol

Yeah, a lot of the EU Cyro folks have come to play on the "new hardware," and the queues reflect that. But ZOS apparently hasn't raised the population caps yet.... if ever.

I don't think they're going to raise them on one of six servers. I think if they raise them it'll be once everyone is done.

Well they didn't wait until they had new servers for EU & Consoles also before starting work on NA. It would also be smarter for them to test it in once place first, to make sure they get it right in the others.

Because we got to be the guinea pigs - and there's no telling how long until EU and console hardware arrives. It's sad for consoles - but at least EU can play here if they want to.

They don't even do maintenance for all servers at the same time, they were never going to do physical hardware swapping out in different global locations at the same time.

I can't say as I've seen any improvement outside of a slightly more consistent pind and fps. Lots of load screens sill, lots of shadow outlines or being dead from things that don't spawn in until after you die, pots not going off...

Try lowering graphics settings. You can also change userfile for tending issues

For some very odd reason, ESO load screens improve of you have more space available on hard drive you put it on too.

Also cheap option. If you put ESO on portal able nvme SSD 2.0 load screens go down from mins to seconds

On the same computer my ESO load screen changed from 5 mins to 5 secs

I am already on low settings, and the game sits on its own ssd external with about 160 gig oh empty space around it. Also I didn't have these issues before U33.

The other platforms are already screaming about not having been upgraded at all, and PCEU and the folks that said they would come back if it got fixed are using the PCNA servers now for PVP as well, increasing the load on PCNA well above normal already, and negatively affecting the ability for folks that regularly play PCNA GH to login. So seems like a no brainer to up the cap, if even possible, just to accommodate *all* the PC players who have flocked to the upgraded servers.
