What is the purpose of Accessibility Mode?

As a disabled gamer, I am intrigued by the idea of Accessibility Mode - but there is almost no information about what it does, short of to force players into Gamepad mode.

From the Patch Notes:
When choosing this mode you will automatically be swapped to use the Gamepad UI, but the keybinds will be adjusted for whatever input is being used (keyboard or gamepad). If you decide you don’t want to use this, you can disable in the Options menu.

You are now also able to move around all pre-game UI screens and elements using only digital inputs (such as keyboard or D-pad keypresses) or analog inputs (such a mouse or gamepad control stick).

Is the idea to allow people using modified/purpose-built controllers to access the game?

Why does it force Gamepad UI?

not 100% sure but i think its due to size? Like visually the Gamepad ui is bigger so if you visually impaired it might help? still hoping they add a lot more accessibility options.

Truth be told, I consider the console UI fundamentally superior to the pc UI out of the box so to speak. I have to use a combination of azure and darkui among a few others to just get my PC ui to visually clear and appealing enough to come close to console UI.

With this change, i wont have to bother with all that. The action bar alone on console UI is enough for me to use this option.

I was also confused by that. It mentions it's an accessibility mode for disabled players, but doesn't mention what it does that a standard PC UI doesn't and it doesn't explain what sort of disability it's meant to create accessibility for. You can move among UI elements with a controller, but couldn't you do that already when you're in gamepad mode?

If anyone has tried it and knows exactly what it does apart from the description, I'd love to know.

@baratron we’ll pass this question along and get an answer from the dev team. Just as a heads up, we plan to do an accessibility deep dive prior to High Isle launching to give more context to upcoming changes. So also keep an eye out for that.

Please don't remove it. The system of U34 is perfect now. It just needs some more clear description what it does in the game itself.

The login and character select all have the gamepad UI at last. And you can switch between the 2 UI modes on the fly which I do constantly.

One bug / addition I would make is the starting screen. If you log out, you get the start screen with 'Press A to start'. There is no way to quit without switching to mouse/keyboard mode or do ALT+F4. A 'Press X to quit' option alongside would be great for accessibility. I saw this issue pop up in another thread as well.

To quit you need to press A, then scroll all the way down to the bottom past the login details to the quit menu option

I have issues with my vision and find gamepad UI indeed clearer, larger, and easier to navigate, just making k&m UI larger wouldn't help with my issue. Love that I'll now be able to select chars with a gamepad too.

I really hope one of the future accessibility features would be an option to tone down all the bright flashes. Would make the experience so much less painful for many people with visual and neurological impairments.

Goodness, yes. Entering Hard Mode on the older Veteran Dungeons, where you read a scroll and see a bright light - is AGONY. My friends usually remember to remind me to close my eyes when they read the scroll.

I wish all of the scrolls in older Dungeons could be replaced by banners for accessibility reasons, if nothing else.
