Error 90002 - Internal_PatchManifest_OS_Error

After quite a while of Error 209, requests for Repair, repairs and redownloads not helping as we've all complained about since U33 I ran another repair today to try to get the PLAY button to show up more reliably (as commented earlier, it's taking forever to show up sometimes up to 2 minutes without a PLAY button) and so have a new error today:

Error 90002 - Internal_PatchManifest_OS_Error
Internal PatchManifest error, please contact customer support.

Well, take this as my notification of yet another launcher issue. I'm not taking the time/hassle to contact customer support when you folks have been told for weeks the launcher is screwy and ignoring all such reports -- my focus is on chemo & severe neutropenia and I am not up to back and forth with email over a customer service ticket.

@ZOS_Kevin @ZOS_GinaBruno

Fix it or not, I'm not sure if I care much longer -- but you can follow up on this as need be without me figuring out how to contact customer support elsewhere given what I'm currently going through.

Game launcher was running really slow so I decided to do a repair and got the same error.

The launcher for weeks has been very faulty and constantly gives me different errors. Or demands a repair. I just ignore the repair and close the launcher. When I bring the launcher back it usually has the play button instead of the repair button. It still is very annoying.

And now an Error 210 PatchManifestError_DownloadFail (yes, been closing/reopening the Launcher, just noting this since it is not among the errors I've seen in the past week).

    I'm on Windows 10 (Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 19043) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406) and ESO Launcher Version 1.3.6.2439725 and not using a VPN.

    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

P.S. While I have a copy of the game in Steam and did run it earlier on my PC I normally use the non-Steam launcher for most of my time in the game (on regular non-Steam accounts, interesting so much of the above report references my Steam copy of the game instead of my non-Steam copy on a different hard drive).

I've no idea how Steam affects it, but for the standalone launcher just ignore the repair button and restart the launcher as that usually fixes the play button. Alternatively, other than on patch day simply bypass the launcher and run the game from the .exe file in the game folder.

Not sure if this will help, but if I would get an error like that I'd expect my harddrive to be broken. (had these exact issues with other games)

Could you try to re-install the not working ESO version on the same harddrive the working version is on. My guess is one of your harddrives is faulty. This keeps giving random errors, and has issues to allow the launcher to verify the gamefiles(play button taking so long). (Edit: Best to redownload the game to the working harddrive, as you do not want the corrupted files to transfer to the working harddrive as well.)

PS: If it is a faulty harddrive, repairing would only allow the files to re-install completely once, only to be corrupted again later.
PPS: If the harddrive is faulty it is best to completely disconnect it, as it would even slow down your working harddrive. (only let a professional do this!!)

The launcher for weeks has been very faulty and constantly gives me different errors. Or demands a repair. I just ignore the repair and close the launcher. When I bring the launcher back it usually has the play button instead of the repair button. It still is very annoying.
This to me seems like a different error from the OP's issue. Your issue seems more like an SSD drive issue. When closing any program/game/application, wait atleast 10 seconds before shutting down or restarting your computer. SSD's have the nasty habit of unnoticeably moving files around to allow quicker access to them. This is normally not a problem. But when you close down or restart the computer too fast after closing a game/application/program, the ssd might still be moving those files around. Causing the files to not be completely moved yet, which means the application/game/program will give an error. But when you shut down the game again, the ssd notices they haven't completely moved those files yet, and finishes the move. Allowing the program to work correctly again.
Depending on which files the SSD was moving, this can generate a whole different set of errors.

TLDR: If you have an SSD, and stopped using a game/program/application, wait atleast 10 second before shutting down/restarting your computer.

Hard drives are NOT faulty, these errors happen from both hard drives AND only started with U33 like many others. I've already repaired/validated a few times and fully re-downloaded once.

Probably the exact same issue as I can get the PLAY button back by closing and reopening the launcher at any time and have had the whole stream of issues others have described... The play button may take up to 2 minutes to appear this week, but aside from that it's the same random repair mismatch version errors and all works fine after closing and restarting.

Also, these errors often occur just from the launcher sitting open in the background even when playing the game. You close the game and suddenly see an error appeared and you'll need to relaunch the launcher before swapping accounts for example -- nothing to do with a computer shutdown. These are ESO problems post U33, not hardware related.

For people with this error, try going into your System settings, Services, and check if Windows Management Instrumentation is running. If not, temporarily set it to Manual or Automatic and right-click start it, then re-run the launcher-repair process and see if it works correctly.

Another thing I have done in the past is navigate to the folder where the "Launcher" and "The Elder Scrolls Online" folders reside, and temporarily rename the 2nd folder "The Elder Scrolls Online TEMP". Then download the Install ESO executable from your account page, run it, and let it update the launcher. Then close it, delete the new "The Elder Scrolls Online" folder if it started to create one, and rename your "The Elder Scrolls Online TEMP" main folder back to "The Elder Scrolls Online".

After that re-run the launcher and it should work.

Thanks for the reminder/pointer. Chemo-brain and lack of sleep made me not even think of such... fixed now.

For people with this error, try going into your System settings, Services, and check if Windows Management Instrumentation is running. If not, temporarily set it to Manual or Automatic and right-click start it, then re-run the launcher-repair process and see if it works correctly.
It was running. For anyone else wanting to try this, the actual process name is Winmgmt with descriptor of "Windows Management Instrumentation"

I did a full reinstall about 2-3 weeks ago shortly after U33 and the issues it brought... it didn't fix anything. The same errors/issues were there after. This is definitely something that the ESO staff need to work on, no repairs or reinstalls or revalidations have done any good. (and not just me saying that if you've seen any of the threads about the other errors with the Launcher).

Best bet for the players is to keep closing/reopening the launcher when it generates an error and go on from there whenever your PLAY button shows up. The info I've posted is mostly for the ZOS folks in the hopes it may help lead to a more rapid solution to all the problems.

Holy entire game consult report posted in forums without a damn spoiler tag Batman! O.O

Thanks for the reminder/pointer. Chemo-brain and lack of sleep made me not even think of such... fixed now.

No problem, thanks for changing it. :)

Good luck with the chemo. My god-mother just got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and is going through that too.

Speaking of chemo-brain not functioning as it should... can someone please move this over to "Bug Reports" instead of "General Discussion"? Thanks! @ZOS_Kevin @ZOS_GinaBruno

Bypassing the Launcher is the best advice. I only use it on Patch Days.

It only seems to ever give me issues on non patch days, but then it has been years since i have used it to launch the game.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I just had this error show up while I was in game. I just happened to notice it when I went to desktop for something else. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything, it's just there.

I began to have the same problem after I downloaded the PTS server (if I remember right... error 90002). I went ahead and ran the game consultant (repair) and then I went to the ESO folder and navigated to the 'Launcher' folder and inside the 'Launcher' folder - I deleted every 'host.developer file" I had (I had 10 of them). It seemed to take care of the problem... so far.

Takes my play button so long to come up, I trigger it and go make a cup of coffee while I'm waiting.

Why is this still an issue? And why is it happening just 3 hours before servers go offline to rob us of the last day of an event?
    Error 90002.

    Error 90002 - Internal_PatchManifest_OS_Error

Internal PatchManifest error, please contact customer support.
    <close>

I've just had this error appear as well, after selecting <repair> when the repair process completes.

Which of the suggestions noted earlier in the thread will definitely fix it?

I'm using the standalone version of Elder Scrolls Online, not through Steam or any other third-party client.
It just started this past hour, and I'd not had the error come up before (I've had ESO installed at least 2+ years).
Now it comes up everytime I launch, given no option but to 'repair'. Repair goes through to 100%, then this error message appears again. Consistantly.

After waiting a few hours that day and retrying, it seems to at least be fixed for me. Perhaps there were issues with the update on the server side at the time, but I'm getting the normal 'play' option now and the game's working.
