Low FPS -Any suggestions?

Hi, been noticing this past few weeks I have been getting very low FPS. I normally sit around 90-100 but recently I have dropped to the 40's and even as low as 20ish in cities and busy areas. I don't have an uber PC but it's half ways decent and I think it should be able to run ESO quite smoothly.
I have 8th gen i7. RTX2070. 16gb RAM. ESO is on my HDD as I haven't much space left on my SSD. This is my laptop btw. On my main PC desktop I have no issues at all but that's a much better rig.
Anyone have any suggestions what I can do to sort this out? I'd happily drop the settings down but why all of a sudden would I need to?
Thanks in advance.

The most recent major update is really pushing my limits of what I can tolerate, since once again, my game is running at a lower fps, and the only thing that has changed, is the game has updated.

The graphical optimization of the ESO client with Nvidia drivers, from my own experience, has gotten worse over the last year. Graphical optimization is clearly not a priority, and I believe they are updating to newer driver toolsets without actually optimizing.

Today I even tried a little experiment with my computer which is packing a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 (on the most recent drivers). I turned off all addons, and either turned off all graphical settings or turned them down to their lowest option. So with my game looking like absolute trash, I went for a ride through Stormhaven and my fps still was dropping into the 40's.

I don't have this kind of performance on any other games I play on this machine, and I use this machine for VR, where fps stability is massively important.

Hoping there will be an acknowledgment by ZOS on this and maybe some optimization patches, but not going to hold my breath.

Same. I just came back to the game after not playing since november last year (right before update 32) and noticed the game runs so bad. I'm a magsorc and when I do streak my game literally drops to 10 fps, and while in cities it randomly goes down to 20 fps, while on the usual I was running over 90 fps. But apparently update 32 optimized the game a lot so it must be the latest update.

I'm updating my drivers now to see if it's of any help but if it runs just as bad I'll uninstall the game again and go back to FFXIV. Coming back to the game after months and seeing this made me not want to go back to grinding it for a while.

Same issue for me, since the update my framerate sits between 20 and 100 Fps which cause random stuttering especially in crowded area.
Usually my game runs flawlessly between 80 and 100 Fps, my GPU is NVidia GTX 1070.
Same behavior with all addons disabled.

Moreover, I have increased character loading time with my cpu reaching 100% charge (8 core + HT) for a full minute, which is very long especially when you have multiple characters.

Hoping for an hotfix please Zos, game is no more enjoyable on this state.

I am going to try out a few experiments as Daeymon and Sheen have just to see what happens, I'll also do the exact same thing on my desktop,
    i9 tenth gen,
    Nvidia Gforce RTX 3070ti,
    64 gb RAM
    2 tb M.2 SSD
The latter should wipe the floor with my laptop, we shall see.
If this is down to ZOS not optimising then I seriously hope they fix it as a priority.

Same issues here. I have been experiencing fps drops (20-30 lows from flat 60 before), which as I have observed, is caused by ramping up of CPU and Disk loads on my PC on certain areas of the game, especially cities, observed mostly on vivec city as I am always there. My graphics settings are all set to low except texture and subsampling, vsync is on, multithreaded rendering is off. I have not experienced this before even if the place is crowded.

My PC is outdated, but its not an issue before.

Game ran like a dream when the DLSS update came but ever since with Ascending Tide, it honestly feels like that was broken in some manner but pushed out anyway.

In cities before the latest update with Nvidia DLSS, never dropped below 79. Game was so buttery smooth in even the most complex scenarios it made me want to cry tears of joy. Fast forward to now with the latest update - every (and I mean every) time I simply turn my view point in a city it's nothing but stutters and frame issues.

    Intel i9-9900k
    RTX 2080 SUPER
    32gb 3200MHz
    860 EVO SSD

I'll try reinstalling, deleting cache, etc. but I'm almost sure that won't revert the milestone performance gains that came with the Nvidia features update.

I don't play eso much but when I logged in last week it was fine and I remembered how great the game has been running ever since the MT renderer was added.

But I logged in again after this week's update and the game is occasionally halving the frame rate and then stuttering. I spend so much time troubleshooting this game it has become a real downer. It's like I just can't win.

@ZOS_Bill Look at my post above, I got the issue with the game at its lowest graphical settings and no addons. This is not an issue with settings. The new build clearly has a CPU optimization issue, mainly when around other players. This thread has far more detail on the issue.

same here. been having real bad fps drops in cities even if no one is around since the last patch. it's usually like i have my average fps (say, 40-60 in Vivec crafting zone, never paid much attention to that outside here and some few trials), then suddenly my game stutters and my fps drops to smth 8-15. totally unplayable. if i stay in place long enough (idk, less then a minute i think) it becomes normal again for another few minutes.
ping is fine, no issues in trials, dungeons or actually anywhere outside of cities (not just hubs, even some smaller ones)

The Sunday before ascending tide - 60fps all content, solid.

After ascending tide, 20fps and unplayable.

Vert. Sync on/off, multithreading on/off, lowest settings - none of it matters - the game runs like garbage.

Bring back U32 renderer…it’s not our hardware that’s the problem or addons or settings, etc.

    8 Core CPU ?

    Edit UserSettings.txt, change SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "x" to SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "2".
    Save and start the game.

This technical issue since the march update has never been fixed!
It's like it is being ignored for the whole year.

    Edit UserSettings.txt, change SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "x" to SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "2".

That is the only thing that stops the framerate from being so unstable but it can cause crashes. It is not a fix!

Please whoever works for ZoS, can you report this instead of asking us to troubleshoot. I sent a support ticket a month ago!

I did already. They assumed it was a hard drive or memory issue. It is not a hardrive or memory issue.

Here is a topic of everyone affected. It's gone on for over half a year now. It's not our computers, it's the game. The video in this post is a way of conveying how ESO runs on our computers now. It is not my video. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/7633045/#Comment_7633045

I felt heavy lag today. I almost never have any issue. It felt like the server lagging and eating my FPS. I dropped to 4 fps at one point when I’m usually at 80-110 fps through everything. That’s when I knew for sure that I wasn’t imagining things. I also kept losing the ability to loot!!! Every now and then, I had to roll-dodge to regain the ability to see the [E] loot prompt and to be able to actually loot. It was crazy.

I've been having massive FPS loss for about the last week and have been trying to fix it, guess I'm not alone.

Normally solid 60 FPS, today was especially bad, multiple zones, FX, etc. I'm dropping as low as 5-10.
No updates or changes to my PC.
The heck is going on with the client?

EDIT: forgot to mention, quitting and restarting the game fixes it for a short while, but then the low FPS comes right back.

Been running great for me... the odd crash here and there though, although tonight the servers took a dump and I had ping spikes in the hundreds all over the shop.

Anyways... unlike most players I'll bet, I'm using an AMD Radeon GPU so if it is an Nvidia driver issue, then its not gonna affect me.

    UPDATE to this.
Rolling back my nvidia drivers to 516.94 (game ready from 08/09/22) seems to have mostly fixed the issue.
I do that as a last resort bcuz I worry about potential issues down the road, all components not un\reinstalling cleanly, etc.

But for now at least I'm back up to 60FPS again, occasional brief dips to around 40-50FPS depending on number of FX on screen, etc. But mostly solid.
