Which house is the best?

Not the best "value," but just best in absolute terms. I think the top contenders for the title of Best House would be

1. Pantherfang Chapel (Blackwood)
2. Princely Dawnlight Manor (Hews Bane)
3. Grand Psijic Villa (Artaeum)

"A bargain with an animal is not a contract made." —Haderus Atrimus.
"Redguard makeup for sale. Free samples. Secret ingredients. Unique application method. Lots of satisfied customers." —The Mudball Goblin (aka, Cognac Vinecroft)

In no particular order my favorites are Mistveil Manor, Alinor Crest and Cyrodiilic Jungle House.

And yes, I own some of the pricey crown store only mansions. Just prefer those three.

    Autumn's-Gate

    Sleek Creek

Both have decent indoor and outdoor area and enough slots compared to size to make both indoor and outdoor look nice without leaving part of it looking empty.

Ideally you'll want a notable home to maximize you furnishing items/collectable etc.

But it's really a matter of taste.

The housing guild I'm in treat most houses like a canvas and sometimes make them completely unrecognizable because they have a new idea with it. Pretty cool actually.

I'm probably in a minority of people who'd agree but my fave is Tel Galen. I know most people dont like the fleshy look, but for only 8,000 crowns it's probably the most reasonably sized 700 slot home (at least for people like me who clutter) i always felt i could make this one feel appropriately full. Whereas some homes you obviously need to be sparse or block off sections. And i do love the dock.

I do not have all the houses so I cannot really say but I have some houses on which I can comment. I like all of them but I made Grand Topal Hideaway my main house, anyone can visit, I think, to see what I did with it. I'm on PCNA.

I also like every reward house that we have, Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery, Hall of Lunar Champion, Grand Psijic Villa, Doomchar Plateau. Each one is wonderful in its own way.

The house at Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery is really huge. I divided into many many rooms, I think it can be visited. The property is also nice for a cobbled home.

Coldharbour Surreal Estate is the biggest bang for your gold, IMO. It is useful for utility (such as for crafting stations) and for your own creations. I currently have a stone cottage and a small castle at mine. I plan to change that someday to something else.

Grand Topal Hideaway is nice for its water features, lava, and big beaches.

Even the tiny Exorcised Coven Cottage is nice for creative builds.

    so many ...

I haven't really dived deep into the housing aspect of ESO as I would like (there's just so much to do!), but I previewed a bunch of houses and fell in love with the Alinor Crest Townhouse. I have a thing for Gothic architecture, the material palette, and the detailed woodwork and masonry. I only started furnishing it, and it seems like it's not too big for the amount of furnishing slots we have available. I also really like Sweetwater Cascades, though I can see that one looking half empty once all the furnishing slots are used. Alas, Sweetwater Cascades is out of my budget. Maybe one day.

    I love Stone Eagle Aerie.
    • The entrance is inside the home at the front door......like you just walked in the house...so I have the feel of just coming home and I dont need to zone to the indoors to go to my crafting stations (which is where i want to put them!)
    • The waterfall room with the secret door to Markarth Outlaws Refuge is also awesome for putting in my armory, pvp achievement items, thieves guild and dark brotherhood items...so I have a secret room for my "battle persona"
    • I like Dwemer .... that is all.
    • The outside is super cool and large enough to decorate and not so large I end up with huge blank undecorated areas.
    • The architecture allows me to put up at least the dungeon trophy heads in a way that it fits with the design and doesnt look like I just have a bunch of heads sticking up.....though the one human head trophy creeps me out...I put it in the secret battle room behind the waterfall next to the blade of woe trophy plaque I created
    • I can make it pleasantly full and maybe even a little cluttered (as is my life) with the furnishing allowance of 700 items (though I would love just 100 more slots) and allow it to reflect my game interests. It feels smaller than many of the 700 homes without being too small
    • The style works well with antiquities and quest furnishings so I can arrange my home in a pleasing manner that also reflects what I do in game....thus it really feels like my game "home base".

My wife's favorite is the Snug Pod, she calls it the Snuggle Pod.

For me, I am a bit torn. I like the Pantherfang Chapel because it looks so much like a traditional castle, but I am not too fond of how it is laid out. But I also like the idea of the Doomchar Plateau because I can use that as a foundation to build my own castle ... if I can ever collect the blueprints to start building the walls and such at least.

Velothi Reverie is really good as it is one of the few houses with actual rooms. A lot of houses, even some bigger ones, tend to be mostly open, rarely having sections feeling properly separated. Plus it is in a nice Dunmer style, so that's a plus.

I bought it back in like 2015 or 2016 I think and still using it as my main home just because of this reason. I have ever room dedicated to something, allowing me to have a kitchen, a livingroom, a basement, a storage/crafting room, two bedrooms, and even a backyard effectively. Also, I tend to enjoy smaller homes in general, so having a smaller home with a decent amount of space and actual rooms helps a lot. The only problem is the lack of doors but that's honestly good for gameplay reasons if you ask me. Having to open and close doors constantly can be annoying after a while.

Sugar Bowl Suite (?) because I like Rimmen for crafting and Impresario

Aldrmeri Grotto because beach and boat and visiting makes me happy

Sweetwater Cascades because you can get to the back without entering actual house, lots of water and a good set up for crafting

I have Hundings Palatial Hall. I was using it for my primary residence until I switched to Grand Psijic Villa. Then after Blackwood came out, I bought Pantherfang Chapel and moved all my good stuff over there.

Hunding's Palatial Hall is pretty good. But in my opinion it is outshown by several other properties.
