I'd be ok if it means I could use my pledge of Mara for that bonus exp. There has to be something other than just repeated romantic lines.
Otherwise I'm ok pretending they do be in a relationship lol.

Considering you can marry players is an interesting thing, unfortunately the only person I play this game with is my brother, and it feels wrong to marry him lmao.

But marrying alts is an interesting concept too.
Like being able to summon them as companions even if they have no voice lines, they just follow you and fight and still use companion equipment.

If I remember correctly, I could swear a dev on the stream awhile back said companion romances was already in the works or at least something they was looking at because it was highly requested and the companion system has been a huge success.

Found it, wasn't on stream was in an interview with the creative director:

Speaking of what the team learned, can you talk about what sort of plans there are for Companions in the future?

I can't get into all the things we're planning, but one thing I will say is that we know everyone wants to be able to romance their companions. It would be a pretty big miss on our part if we don't deliver on that at some point in the future.

yes!!! if anyone's maxed out Mirri's friendship level yet she's already making a borderline love confession to the player so it's odd that the relationship just ends there

They would have to add more interactions to companions like BioWare RPGs to make it interesting. Right now their dialogue trees are far too shallow. I say yes, but they have to do more with companion dialogue.

Ok. I know people want to marry people. Which is fine. But look at it from a Gameplay Perspective.

What is the Benefit? Will they send you deliveries like with the crafting deliveries? Will they give you some kind of passive benefit?

I don't care either way, but there needs to be some kind of Incentive to Marry NPCs for some people to interact with the feature aside from RP.

This is like saying "what's the benefit of having different motif's?" At the end of the day, they are just visuals that don't provide anything, but people pay millions for them.

RP is a good reason on it's own when we are playing an MMORPG..

Also there's no harm in a system which doesn't offer benefits for people who don't like the idea, because then they can safely ignore it and know they're not missing out on anything useful.

Sure. And that's fine, RP to your hearts content. But if they added Romance as the big Feature of an Expansion, I don't think it would go over that great.

MMORPG are transactional experiences, you do Dungeons, Delves, and Trials for Gear and Motifs. You do certain achievements for Dyes and Costumes.

Cosmetics directly involve YOUR Character. And how people see your character. You want people to look at you in Awe.

With the Rapport System, they could do it. And if they want to add that in as a side hustle, great. But adding a bunch of additional voice lines for Marriable NPCs would be a lot of work.

Just my 2 cents on the matter. I still think that there should be an incentive to adding any kind of new system. If you disagree, that's fine.

Oh no please don't. There are so many games where you can do just that and its so off-putting to no end how every pixelboy and girl can be romanced with that it sometimes leads to me questioning humanity as a whole how people can even be interested in something like in this first place lol. Take games like SWTOR for example. Most questlines have this weird touch of craziness inside because of romance option here and there, but without the option to just disable these annoyances. Quests get literally ruined by it and all immersion is gone so fast, since it pulls any seriousness or danger onto ridiculous levels. In ESO everything would turn into some kind of elven teenage twilight vamp wolf kissy kissy session left and right. Not mention those who will spam chats about weird things like how they find pixels attractive and such for some reason and are also the people who make those conversations become a unbearable toxic fest of sexism and politics in the end. Had enough of this in SWTOR already don't need this in ESO too. So thanks, but no thanks!

I am married in RL. See, if you go out the door, all you have to do is open your eyes and you will notice actual humans everywhere that are already marriable. Play RL enough and you will never feel the need to let pixels take over this part.

Family life is true endgame anyways! ;)

It adds a pleasant element to the game to have a life companion for our characters. We already have companions who can be seen as friends so why not?

No doubt many experience ESO that way, but I'm certain there are just as many who play this MMORPG for its RPG aspect, which is more about immersing yourself (more or less) in a fantasy world. And having relationships in that fantasy world can be fun if done right. In Skyrim they attached a tangible benefit to marrying (one got a daily allowance and a small buff), and it was almost universally panned as odd and transactional, so I don't think relationships should be about having benefits.

I agree that if they added romance as a main feature of an expansion, it would be a controversial choice, and probably as popular as having a card game as a main feature. I'd love to see expanded companion features and interactions, including romance, as a part of an expansion though.

I know I am doing this a lot but isn't saying "Why are you getting married in a videogame when you can in real life?" equivalent to saying "Why are you playing Call of Duty when you can go to Iraq and fight a war in real life!"

Like I doubt people get married in video games because it is a reflection of real-life marriage. For me it's just how I see the story going for my character. It is not a manifestation of my real-life aspirations. It's a game. Therefore it is in turn very interesting to me that some people have way too strong of a reaction to this proposition. If this is implemented no one's gonna force anyone to have an NPC relationship.
