How many think it's "okay" to take Volendrung and give it to enemy players?

So today in the under-level-50 PvP campaign, Volendrung (the Hammer) spawned behind an alliance's gate. A member of that alliance picked up Volendrung, rode across the map, and delivered it to enemy players. He was not a "spy" for the enemy; he did this to amuse himself. He was supported by several other players in zone chat. His reason: He thought he would make more AP if the enemy had the hammer (since his alliance controlled much of the map).

So, should this sort of thing be allowed? Should PvP players be allowed to take actions that sabotage their faction's score for the campaign? If such actions allow them to make more AP?

I guess there's nothing in the terms of service preventing such a thing. But it sure seems like there should be. I seem to recall reading about suspensions several years ago from PvP players in opposite factions who were coordinating to get AP. Anyway, I guess it's allowed: it makes some players titter with delight, and it greatly annoys players who are loyal to their faction and want to have the high score for the campaign.

Im personally faction loyal, but I understand why people do it, especially if your faction has priority control of the map. You make nothing with no enemy. Have to create wars due to the population imbalance. I just laugh and hope it means I'll finally get some action, but I would never -personally- hand over a hammer myself, my rp faction loyal pride wouldnt allow it.
I am demanding better customer service from Zenimax Studios.
I am demanding better and more open communication between the devs & the playerbase.

The fact that the faction that already owned the whole map gets the hammer is reason enough to 'troll' it.
Why would the faction that already controls the map even want the hammer? It makes no sense... what are they going to do with it? Ride around & die? :p

I've seen plenty of instances where players just hold the hammer in a back keep till it goes back to Oblivion, to keep the majority faction from getting it. Or they throw it in the slaughterfish or troll it to the enemy faction. IMO, all these options are better than the majority faction getting it & just stomping the remains of the less populated factions.

While its not something I would do I agree with the player that did it. If you control the map having the hammer is pointless. Let then opposition have its at least that way you get AP for retaking the keeps.

Back in the past when I played in lowbie PVP, if the map was one color, I'd leave and go do something else. Cyrodiil is not enjoyable if everything or nearly everything is owned by one faction. I can understand why the hammer was delivered to the enemy.

Agree. After capturing keeps with hard work... you can see how one guy coming and destroying all map with zerg. Not fun. Time for something new.

You can't have sportsmanship without an opponent. If the other team has been demoralized to the point of refusing to show up, it's up to the team running up the score to encourage something to fight over besides the camp score.

    Depend
Do they actually want to give it to the ennemy or did they just overestimate themself and got killed?
Do they give it for a reason like letting another faction take back some of the map so you have something to do since your faction own all of the map?

Would Uncle Sheo give two hoots if people give it away? No.

Is it more likely someone knew the players on the other faction and wanted them to have it? Much more likely, in fact.

In PVP its more about who you know than your general skills, anyway.

Here's an idea (since folks seem to want "play" more than faction campaign score):

Not kidding: Instead of characters having a fixed-faction designation for the under-level-50 campaign, have the PvP-server assign PvP players to a faction when they enter the campaign. This will keep the numbers in each faction mostly equal at all times (within 1 player). And maybe will avoid having the Cyrodiil map stay the same color all day as it currently does. Still apply player-selected faction to the over-level-50 campaigns.

And since we're wishing here: Place hard-caps on player stats in the under-level-50 campaign and disable all proc sets.

There's a lot of shenanigans with scrolls/hammer from players who want to troll, or assist the enemy factions, etc., and sometimes you can just only sit and watch it happen unfortunately. But I think there are also strategic reasons not to use the hammer (for eg, if you are underpop and you know the other faction will come and get i, and then roll the map, etc) but in those cases, just let it despawn. I guess in your case OP, if the map was indeed all one colour, and there wasn't any fights, maybe it was sportmanship and that's why they handed it over, so that there could be some action, not necessarily being disloyal to the faction.

If PvP players want some action at the expense of campaign score, how about we get Sheogorath to reset the Cyrodiil map several times a day at random? Meaning, after a reset, all real estate is returned to its original owner and no faction has captured real estate. Imagine standing inside a keep when the random-flip happened, and all the NPC guards turned hostile. Sheogorath would have such fun!
