None of those suggestions seem to be in line with the dolmen idea.

I understand that Zenimax has said they were going to slow down with adding new systems. I think it was due to COVID making it more challenging to put everything together or maybe server performance. Either way, it is why the added value in this year's chapter seems somewhat light and why new systems like what is suggested are unlikely.

That's the point. Dolmen after dolmen reskin is boring. It's a new chapter not a dlc. How about some real innovative in World events

Roaming bosses was just added last update so yes there's no excuse for this lack of innovation

Card system is a new system so this also refutes point

Dolmens 5.0 pve castle siege! Storm the gates, sneak through the sewers, scale the walls while vertically dodging dangers being dropped at you. Pantherfang Chapel sized castles. Reaching the final boss ports everyone participating to the boss room so no one misses out. 50% credit is the boss and the other half is what you did during the siege so people who sat around doing nothing just waiting on boss port get lesser quality loot than those that contributed.

This sounds fun. Team together to take down a fort for rewards. There's a lot of easy to re use assets too.

Great example that there is innovation. That does not mean everything has to be completely unique. I have been around only a little longer than you have but I can say that we get more content each year than we did in my previous games of WoW and FF14 and the storytelling is much better and certainly more refined than in those games.

Because those are the only things that prevent a chapter from being "empty"? Sheesh, that seems pretty extreme.

They talking about it during video. They literally say it just like summerset ones. They also mention it like dolmens.

It's their words here. So I would like say that's not innovative and is boring.

Just because something is compared to something doesn't mean it's exactly like that thing, though. There could be aspects to it we don't know yet that they didn't want to spoil until the Chapter hits the PTS. We literally know next to nothing, and as per usual, people are getting all up in arms over stuff we hardly have information on.

And the chapter isn't 'empty'. People may not like the new World Event or the CCG or the Companions or the trial or whatever, but that doesn't mean it's void of content. If someone thinks it's empty in the context of what they find interesting, sure, but a general blanket statement that there's no content is just not true.

Yeah, at that point in the presentation I just rolled my eyes and said "More dolmens, but with volcanoes this time." :|
    Not thrilling.
The only things I'm looking forward to are the new companions and the new zone and questline.
I don't want volcano dolmens or card games.

Compare it to other chapters. It's more of a dlc then a chapter

Also they mentioned both in same line meaning it's a knock off.

Yeah fire dolmens made me yawn. I'm tired of reskinned dolmens. Just let Molag Bal's dolmens extend to the new regions and no need to waste resources reskinning them. Dragons were at least unique, and the Morrowind chapter didn't even put any in, and it worked out fine. We don't need reskinned dolmens.

The comparison to the Summerset Geysers made me cringe because I knew this would come up. They should not have compared it to anything we already had and let the players come up with the comparison. They may not be exactly like the Summerset ones but now, for me, that is going to be what I see. Unless there is a furnishing or motif as a drop, I probably will not do them.

I think once the rework of the PvP is complete, we will see ZOS working with all cylinders on their game content.

None of you suggestions is even possible in this game, much less being something that could be adjusted/enhanced to make it work. There are no boats to travel on, by design. Mounts have no combat capability and can only absorb damage, by design. Jostling is not an action that can be taken, by design. You can't build anything that is not on your own home, inside your specific Instance of Housing, by design. Sacrificing allies has no purpose and can involve throwing away credits. Tug of war would just be data, and every character would have to be assigned a rating for tug of war. People would simply make alts just for this, And it has no real purpose so I suspect Zos would not want to spend the time and money figuring out how to evaluate each character in the game and determine their tug of war rating.

    IMHO

My first game that had repeatable fights with randomly selected bosses was LOTRO, in its Skirmish system.

They just reused existing art and proceeded from there. E.g., you gathered in front of the Prancing Pony Inn in Bree and fought off attackers, including some torchbearers who tried to burn it. Or you fought your way through a particular courtyard or tower. Etc.

If the King Casimir fight in Daggerfall had more boss fights, and the bosses were randomly selected from a list, and it were repeatable daily, and it were instanced to your choice of group size (limit 12), it would be like a LOTRO skirmish.

Similarly the Elinhir repeatable quest, and perhaps other Craglorn ones as well.

But it would be harder to do something like that without having some control over the group size.

To tell the truth Summerset Geysers are an excellent variation due the up-scaling of the objective to counter the amount of players in range. This is a very good example of ramping up the difficulty to match the incoming hordes.

Witness the ignominious death by zergs of world bosses in some events.

Ooh, are they out yet? I didn't get much information so I'd love to know more about them. Please tell us if you already have the details of how they are!

Look, they've tried a lot of things with the world events, and a lot of this also goes to look at what population they're targeting. I know, we've got a whole thread on that.

Point is that the basegame Dolmens are really easy for a lot of us that have been playing for a while. I run through overland in a tank build so my DPS is in the toilet but I think I still managed to solo my first one before I hit level 50. But I don't have a problem with that - I can ignore them if I don't want to, and I can check them off my map if I want to get jewelry mats or FG dailies. Compare this to something like Harrowstorms that only the most elite players can solo since there's so much going on (and the pikes restore health and you get heavy hitters the longer the fight goes).

Remind me again which type of world event has more people doing them and which people avoid outside of events?

Each of the world events is slightly different, and it's nice that we get some flavors, but if DLC zones are any indication players may end up in a barren zone about a year out. If they haven't gotten everything done in the first few weeks when everyone and their mother is playing in the zone, they're going to be screaming "/z LFM south dragon!" in chat for ages while everyone else is like "meh, there's no wayshrines and the loot is trash so glhf but I'm staying here to listen to this bard."

As for the ones we have:
    • Dolmens I'll give you are a bit too easy. It's a nice introduction to world event mechanics, but they might be a bit undertuned. I do like that they scale to the number of players though, but I'd bump it a level.
    • Geysers are more fun and scale, but what I dislike about them is that there's no progress indicator. Others you can see how many pinions/pikes remain, but a geyser just gives a bunch of waves that get boring since it's always the same enemies and you don't know how much longer you have. Very nice scaling based on the number of players though.
    • Dragons are a lot of fun, but they're exceptionally difficult to solo for 99% of the playerbase and most are miles from the closest wayshrine. They will be at the same level whether one player or 100 are there to take it on, so it'll drop like a rock during an event but solo... That means it's pretty tough to get them down outside of events. Pity, since it feels great to plant in front of its face and tank an entire fire breath before sending it right back at them. Dragon fights are awesome and really make me feel like a hero.
    • Harrowstorms I feel are a bit overtuned. There's usually too much going on and they have a lot of difficulty in terms of 'this big monster will send a oneshot at you while you're dodging everything, and then you just get more and more big guys (and the pikes heal up) the longer the fight takes. It ends up being a really stressful fight, and then your only reward is 15 units of 'Ash' and a green ring? Oof. And again no scaling, so...
    • Portals sounded interesting in concept, but I think they fell completely flat. The idea of them randomly spawning so people would call them out in /z didn't work that well, and then when you do ride up to one, you walk in and find out someone was there ahead of you and cleared literally everything so you just run through an empty world to the final boss. I think the only times I've actually been able to fight my way through (which is PD difficulty so I think that's fine) has been when it spawns right next to me, but even then I'm trying to rush through so I can get to the bosses before someone else kills it while I'm collecting random mobs. Also still annoyed that they didn't use the standard gate model (I know "but Dagon's just practicing his invasion so he didn't use them yet!" Except in Firsthold. And Maelstrom. And Rockgrove. And the new house. And...)

So I actually think Geysers were one of the best events in terms of difficulty since they scaled to the number of players there, and the other thing is that geysers have some nice rewards for drops (Clam Gall/Mother of Pearl). I'd hope that the volcanoes aren't just endless waves of enemies the way geysers were and there's some indicator of how much still to do to finish it, and (with the exception of the portals since they acted as a public dungeon instead of a singular event) things have been getting harder as they've released more DLCs - even if many people haven't seen it.

If anything needed to be 're-skinned' or copied, it should have been Dragons! People (including me) STILL like to do them in Southern Elyswehr where they are closer to the wayshrines. Personally, I find Geysers to be quite boring. Dragons also have very good rewards for the effort!

TBH I just don't see how these Volcanos jive with the theme of the chapter.
Sure, there are island volcanos, especially in the mediterranean, but then you add another jungle island and knights and sea elves and it just seems a bit of a mess.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
