What race do you want the next companion(s) to be?

An argonian shadowscale would be interesting, and also give us a companion that would be fine with Blade of Woe.

That or a proper imperial, but because we already have Bastian that is unlikely. Despite him screaming breton with every fiber of his being (and even was breton before last minute changes).

A bosmer that is not a walking joke would be nice too.

Why not a hybrid?
An argonian and a khajiit had a baby and the companion will be a furred argonian or an alfiq with scales.

But I think a normal khajiit is more realistic

Considering we got two companions to start with, I'd except ZOS to give is two again with different race and personality when they add more. Adding a khajiit and an argonian would please many.

I thought Bastian was a Breton. I gave him a staff. I should pay more attention. I voted Orc because I can't be bothered to use a sword, its too much like hard work. Then maybe the companion could be a master crafter too and get me lots of master writs.

I’d definitely love any type of Argonian since they are my favorite race in eso. Some sort of shadowscale would be double points of glee for me. 😂 or just one who is cool with stealing and actually gains affection for it.

It is a time sink for time sinks sake and while I might be in the super minority I really dislike the system under its current rule sets.

They are pretty useful for solo play. Bastian in particular is a pretty decent tank given he's intentionally limited. You have to build him up first but once you do he's not that bad at it. I used him to tank normal Moongrave Fane for me, for example. Allowing me to clear it without the help of any human others. I don't know that I would have been able to clear that one without him as the 2nd to last boss tossed a LOT of damage my direction. I had him tank the melee boss primarily while I dealt with the mechs and it worked out pretty well.

Argonian would probable make for the most interesting & least boring companion. It does not matter what class or skills or story would he/she had to tell. Just the share fact that it would be a talking lizard would be interesting.

Khajiit is 2nd and although could also be interesting, I think that it would be hard for Zenimax to come up with something fresh, new and interesting in terms of Khajiit. I mean, player base seems to love them (cats), but as a side effect it looks to me like we had almost all variation & types of Khajiits as "important" NPCs possible. So whatever khajiit character ZOS will introduce, it would be "a copy" of a cliche we have already seen.

I'd be fine with any race really! Hopefully we'll eventually have companions from every race and both genders to choose from. And have at least some hairstyle customization and the ability to wear a helm, to fight the current Clone Wars invasion.

But most of all, I'd like for Bastian to be finally recognized as the glorious Breton he is. All his dialogue and quests tell me he's Breton, but his race says Imperial, which seems like an odd mistake to me.

The biggest surprise that I'm hoping for is that they do not 2 new companions, but 6! Once Blackwood becomes a DLC, they would release the Companion aspect as a separate purchase in the crown store which then unlocks new companions retroactively added to existing zones with new quests to obtain them. An Orc Templar to Orsinium, Altmer Sorcerer in Summerset, Bosmer Warden to Vvardenfell, and a Khajiit Necromancer in Northern Elsweyr. As a bonus the new chapter also introduces their own exclusive companions, a Nord Werewolf and an Argonian Vampire. At least that's what I would want to happen, silly I know, but I love this aspect of the game and don't mind collecting and leveling new ones.

Instead of waiting years for the release of all races and genders, why not give us alts as companions? That would also free us from the "clones" problem.
