Map zoom question

I’m playing on console and guess I’ve been stuck with it this way for so long I got used to it until recently a friend was sharing a screen cap and it jumped out at me. There’s been a few threads over the years last one in June but I’m curious if this is technically a bug or working as intended.

The zoom levels of the map between 4k and 1080p are a rather large hit to quality of life. Aside from downgrading tv’s or digging out my ps4 again is there anything one can do with a ps5 to get around this?

During a home renovation over Christmas I had to play my PS5 on an old non-4K TV. It was the same thing with the map there.

I think the 4K implementation in the code doesn’t take into account the increased resolution for the zone maps.

It's really annoying when doing a treasure map or something similar. I have to get super close to the tv and squint just to see where to mark the X after having to look it up on my phone. It's one of the reasons I just stopped bothering with treasure maps and surveys.

Yeah this definitely needs looking at and fixing. It is very frustrating when doing Treasure Maps and Surveys - which I do a lot!

The entire "controller UI" in this game is antiquated and geared to 1080p. ZoS should absolutely perform a UI overhaul for the Gamepad mode to accomodate higher resolution devices like the new consoles and PC, but they most likely will not because there is no financial incentive for doing so.

I stopped using the PS5 version because of all the things that needed to be fixed, the map on the PS4 version is much more clear. They need to fix the map to bring it n closer.

While they are doing that put in a toggle on/off for the pull to the closest icon on the map. I am constantly placing where I want to go and having it pull me away from that spot ant to something that has an Icon on the map.

Would not mind having an icon of some kind for all the discovered surveys and maps. A small colored dot would be enough, brown for wood, silver for jewelry, red for enchanting, green for alchemy, black for blacksmithing, white for clothing, blue for treasure map

On console I can hold the L2 trigger (I think, might be R2) and it will hold the map in place so I can apply a custom marker for an area on the map.
