Treasure Hunter perk with overland chests

How's the treasure hunter CP perk supposed to work with overland chests? I thought I understood it but today is making me think I don't.

Normally, Overland chests work like:
Simple: No set drops
Intermediate: 50% chance of a set drop
Advance: 100% chance of a set drop.

With the Treasure Hunter CP perk, I get a set piece with 100% of my intermediate chests. I also see some pieces drop with Simple chests. So I assume the perk just bumps each chest up a level. But now I have no idea as I'm at 38 Simple chests opened in a row without a set piece.

Anyone know what this thing does?

I don't think that's exacly how it works.

I'm not sure. But it seems to increase your chance to get rare paintings. I never found those until I equipped the CP perk.

not sure of the accuracy of the information as it doesn't cite any references but here is a page that states the % chances for drops with and without the Treasure Hunter CP perk: https://eso.justlootit.com/gear-farm-guide/

I know that if I am gear farming and opening chests I have gold and treasure CPs on. What? You dont like more gold than less and better gear chance? :p

I don't think it would improve chances of set pieces at all. I think it improves the QUALITY of any pieces you get. So, more blues than greens etc. Well that's my theory.....

With Treasure Hunter, Intermediate chests will always give you a blue non-set item and a blue set item.

With Simple Chests, you get a chance to get a green or a blue non-set item, and then an additional change to get a green set item.

So as long as the intermediate level is working right, your RNG probably just sucks.

Those charts appear to match my experience. I mean, I'm not sure about the percentages, and I haven't done any detailed analyses, but it does seem like the passive essentially bumps the chest up to the next level. For instance, last night I was in a delve and found 3 Simple chests. The first chest just had one piece of standard gear, whereas the other two had one piece of standard gear plus one piece of overland set gear.

As an expert in treasure chest hunting, allow me to assist. :)

I do not have explicit knowledge of overland drop rates, but based on my experience, it's 10% for Simple, 15% for Intermediate, and 20% for both Advanced and Master.

Simple and Intermediate chests will always offer green items.

    Advanced will offer blue.

    Master will always offer purple*.

What the Treasure Hunter perk does is increase the chance of the offering's quality.
For Simple and Intermediate, there's a chance to get a blue quality item.
For Advanced, a chance for a purple quality item.

The bonus is seen with the Master chest. Since a purple is guaranteed, the perk can offer a secondary drop, also with an improved quality. However, this quality will never be purple. Or, I should say, I've never seen two purple items come from a chest. Usually it's either one purple + one green or one purple + one blue.

*A Legerdemain skill level of 6 is required before a Master chest guarantees a purple drop. The quality increases per every 2 until level 6 is achieved. If you're looking for purple jewelry, make sure this skill is up first! I recommend cracking safeboxes and fencing as level 6 can be achieved in a single day.

As for my opinion about the perk: it's not worth it.

Since the drop rate for overland gear isn't affected, you're exchanging 50 valuable perk points for quality items, which can be done at a crafting station. Even with the secondary drop of a Master chest, the rarity of these makes the perk useless.

In addition, this perk must be slotted to be active.

If you really want to utilize a better use of the skill points, put them into Infamous and start looting safeboxes.

With a 25% increase in fenced items, that's 125 gold per 100 and that adds up quickly.

    Hope this helps!

With Treasure Hunter players have a chance of increased quality of items found in treasure chests.
Of course, rng factor is still there and a simple chest (or any other quality chest) may present you items as if you don't have the passive slotted.

TH does increase the chance of finding set items vs non-set items, so it is definitely useful while filling up your collection. Once all gear is collected from the location it will become less relevant.

You get a random chance at hidden treasure drop and also an extra drop like a crafting style. You can also get an extra drop as well thats random. It does not bump up the quality. Low end chests still drop greens for instance.

It works by upgrading chests to 1 tier above:

Simple chests become intermediate: Chance to obtain 1 green set piece
Intermediate chests become advanced: Guaranteed to get 1 blue set piece
Advanced chests become Master: Guaranteed to get 1 purple set piece
Master chests give 1 purple set piece and 1 blue.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

Err name of chest doesn't change. If overland chest says intermediate, then you will get a blue set piece. If this isn't working for you, then maybe you don't have the CP slotted?

I wound up opening hundreds of chests when I was testing the force lock percentages.

The easiest way to test if your passive is working correctly is to open Intermediate chests, because those give a blue non-set item and a blue set item 100% of the time with treasure hunter active.

If you aren't getting those results, double check that the Treasure Hunter passive is slotted - I know I've had a couple times I swore I slotted it and apparently I didn't confirm it or something.
