18, but I want more on the same account since multiple accounts don't share the same champion points, crafting motifs, unlocked colors, or companions; I don't want to do all that over again. To be clear I like to have 4 of every race, 2 males and 2 females, with one of each role: Tank, Healer, Stamina DPS, and Magicka DPS. Armory Station is not a solution, I want dedicated characters filling their roles not swappable builds. In total I would like 40 characters, its only 8 short of what I have on WoW with 24 Alliance and 24 Horde.

Two. I used to have more but I became bored with their development. Significantly reducing character numbers and simplifying my approach to the game has proven to be just what I needed.

Playing since 2017, only 1 character, not going to make more. 20 transmutes/day is enough for me.
Started as breton (was totally new), then listened not very adequate people and became altmer, then understood races and became dunmer.
My sole character has all 3 roles available in armory.

9 on PC-EU with a abundance of mats, gold etc but it got boring as in "been there, done that".

Started afresh on PC-NA a couple of months ago and decided to do quests in chronological order. My main DD is working hard to be master crafter.

Made a healer/DD mage and a tank who are slowly but surely on the path to greatness. I'm really enjoying playing these three characters.

Less is sometimes more.

8, the max free amount, 5 fully leveled. But only three really get played a decent amount.

(Bosmer Stamblade, Bosmer Stamden, Breton Magplar, Dunmer Magsorc, Dunmer Magblade, Nord Stamsorc, Nord StamDK, Redguard MagDK. Those two DK's might be the other way around, I don't remember. DK just didn't click with me, they're mules now. )

But these days I'm almost exclusively playing my main character and all the others hardly do anything apart from crafting.

11 fully leveled ones, (tho 3 of them need their builds checked and fixed), and 2 low levels. I used to have 15 lvl 50 characters, but I deleted 5 of them due to personal reasons (they were for RP so yeah), and then started leveling new ones super slowly. I'd still be happy if ZoS gave us at least 30 slots in total, I want to play different builds on different characters, since my inventories can't fit all the alt build gear...

I'd like this too. I have 11 characters, with a 12th in the process of being created, but I already have more characters planned in my head than my account has capacity for. 18 just isn't enough when you play with and design characters for more reasons than just builds. Sure, I have more slots over on EU, but I really don't want to play there as all of my mounts and things are on NA, as is my family who plays with me. I'd love an expansion to 40 as it would give me room to create characters more spontaneously instead of planning them out so rigorously to make the best of my 18 slots. Sure I could make a new account, but like you, I have no desire for that, as everything I have worked for is here on my main account.

I have 2 others, unused: one at 16 the other at 32. Once in a blue moon I take one out for specific purposes like farming lower level resources typically.

When I play a new MMO, I always play every class to level 20. This allows me to find the class I like. All of the other characters get deleted. I'll play one character until I quit the MMO.

Hmmm depends how you count. 8 fully levelled characters, equipped for pve, pvp and some light tanking + 1 level 17 who's got his mount levelled and everything - was going to be for baby pvp - but is stuck as a survey storage toon at the moment. Then I think 3 storage mules.

My mage is technically my main (did cadwells gold, has all the crafting stuff) but is largely retired; since then I've "mained" 3 others across one chapter / dlc or another, and played all five EP toons a fair bit in pvp. They all see some use, though I much prefer mag toons for pve, and stam toons for pvp.

That said, if I'm honest, 8 feels too many - I find that I can play max 3 toons in a day and maybe do writs or an RND on two or three others. I was originally planning to do one of each class, which I think would have been better. The horse is such a pain I've stopped levelling alts altogether now.

I have 2 chars I play. Main is a warden with 6 Armory slots for different play styles. My alt is a DK that I play once in a while. I have a 3rd char that's just a writs and muleing items.

I also play my wife's account allot so her char does not fall to far behind me. I also do her writs most days.

Three. My main, a crafter and I recently started levelling a healer. That's already two more characters than I originally wanted to have, since I will only ever play my main actively, so I doubt I will add more.

2 have been my “mains” since I started playing — one for solo activities and one mostly for group. I enjoy having not only different play styles but different characters as well.
