Quit putting outfits and skins in the apex tier - the price creep is getting outrageous

Happened last season with the jester outfit. Will happen again next season. It's already hard enough to just get a mount from that tier, now we have multiple items in it that used to be solidly in the legendary tier.

Its bad enough they're behind horrible RNG to begin with.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's the announcement of the next crates:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/592961/official-discussion-thread-for-new-celestial-crown-crates-article/p1?new=1
Celestial Robes (costume) and Astral Sheen (skin) are both in the Apex tier.
I agree it is frustrating, not just for crown crate buyers but for those hoping to buy things with gems or seals of endeavor.

And yet they are desirable, people want them. They look cool and they make the game fun to play.

Simply because they are not part of your game style, doesn't mean they aren't a big part of the game itself. Hell, I'm pretty sure ZOS makes most of their money from crates.

And another thing that I've noticed, is that more than 50%, or even 75% of the legendary and epic tiers are simply reused junk from previous years. Absolutely trash value.

I think this bump up to apex tier for costumes/personalities happened because of the introduction of the seals. The jester season also had less stuff that could be converted for a high gem turnout than previous seasons. Combined with the low odds, it's basically a bid to increase crate sales for people to gather enough gems for the things they want.

Yeah. I am actually kind of glad they did this though, because now I won't be spending nearly as much money or coins on crates. It's the final nail in the coffin in my interest in getting so many crates.

I particularly enjoyedhow the Scorianite Gladiator Helmet and Jack are in a rarer tier than the other five pieces of the style.

Because not only does it make it likely to require more crates to get all seven pieces, but it also makes it more expensive for players who want the set using gems or Seals.

At a certain point, the marketing manipulation just gets so obvious. It's not that I expect ZOS to not be a business, but sometimes I just shake my head at their monetization. Gotta wring every penny out, I guess.

When I was better off financially, I'd buy crates to cheer myself up with fun customization options for this game, but now, years later and having way less money to spend, the crates don't feel so tempting anymore. The only thing I care about them now are the emotes - or hair styles. It's a really bad decision to put costumes and skins to apex imo, I'd be happier if it was just mounts like it used to be (we used to have one of each six species since start (wolf, horse, camel, bear, guar, senche) and now we don't. Not fair).

It's pretty ridiculous that the only new interesting outfit that has come out in quite some time is a) only in crates and b) in the apex tier of all things. What's next, Velya's hairstyle?

But it's even more ridiculous that the chestpiece (since it's skimpy lol) of that split-up outfit is in the epic or legendary tier, since hey it's a battle bra so mad cash. Or an instrument emote as epic tier.

I've never been bothered with the store before, as I always found things to be consistent pricing wise, whether I agreed with them prices or not. But this just sounds like mega bad PR. Even I am annoyed by it, and that's a rarity.

I mean it won't make me enjoy the game less and it won't stop me from buying one pack of crates anyway since I usually do that for the fun of it, but stuff like this is like.. the antithesis of sowing good will / good karma amongst the player community, on which ESO usually prides itself.

It is definitely a deincentivizer for me to buy crates! I won’t buy a season anyway if I don’t like the apex mounts because I hate the idea of getting something rare that I don’t like and I almost never like skins, particularly ones like this which, well, don’t make sense on any being from Tamriel (not a criticism of anyone else liking it, just my preference). The costume is cool, but not 400 gems cool. I would probably rather it as style pages that I could mix and match anyway.

I agree with basically all of the points made here, but how do we know the costume is on which tier? I read the preview article, did it mention the tier and I missed it?

I understand the reasoning behind the CS and the different value they attach to all their pay pixles etc...but the gem costs for the radiants are absolutely insane!

It really makes no sense to sell them at such a high gem count...might as well just keep them random while opening crates rather than forcing the user to stare at the insane 2500-1200 cost, lol. IDK just my opinion...

There's also a thread on the forums where the ZOS representative lists all the tiers and what they have.

Imagine how ESO would look if none of the stuff in the crown store existed. The game would be visually boring as heck.

I wouldn't mind if the money from CS and CC would support the game but when they have more and more ppl, more expensive stuff in shop and game still after two years of performance fixes is in bad spot (unless you only play overland and no or minimal group play) + each chapter offers less for the same price tag, then yeah, it is a pass for me probably. Money clearly goes to new mmo that zos is working on and I don't like that they treat eso more like milking cow and less like a product that could live another 5 years (or more)

Agreed. The increase in price also doesn't reflect an increase in quality. I recently bought the Maniacal Jester personality because at 400 Gems it must be pretty unique, right? Wrong. It's just a slightly modified Heroic personality. Worse gem purchase ever.

I do like that Garb of Grinning Horrors, but 400 gems is just way too much for a costume, had it been 100, I would have purchased it.

Also noticed that hideous Netch Handler Cap which we got in May as a daily log in was part of the Grim Harlequin possible epic rewards...

There is a failure to grasp the difference between a need and a want, I think. To differentiate betwen an actual necessity and something that you desire. This game would be completely playable without any of the cosmetics, and even any mount beyond the most basic stable horses.

The only way that the crown store could be viewed as a necessity is from ZOS's end. At that point, we're talking purely economics. They have multiple streams of revenue. Without revenue, there's a risk to the survival of the business. ZOS needs to make money. You don't need to play this game, let alone buy stuff from the crown store. You want to buy stuff. You do not need to. See the difference?

From a client/customer perspective, nothing in the crown store is necessary. Even the game itself as entertainment isn't a "necessity."

Nothing about a video game can be described as a need, not even gameplay, if we're gonna talk about it only in the most extremely strict view of the term. Not even your house is a need by that metric.

But if we're gonna use it in the more common sense of the term, which is something required for X thing, then cosmetics can absolutely be a requirement of enjoying a game. Many people find games dull if their characters can't look nice.

Skimming through comments, I am actually surprised people still indulge companies by buying crates and lootboxes.
What's wrong with society and why no-one seems to learn?
Pre-purchasing unknown products and buying boxes with unknown items, and then asking why your expectations are not met.

At this point this is just comical. It's like Tom constantly shooting himself in the ass with a curved gun and pretending to not know how it's happening.

I mean people like to gamble. It's fun to them. And not all loot boxes are weighted unfairly across the industry. Some are probably overly generous and not sustainable (Overwatch) and some are extremely stingy and unreasonable (PWI) and then others fall into the middle.

They have also been consistent for a while now so it is notable that they got worse in quality.
