I haven't timed it, but the lantern lasts a lot more than a few seconds. Also a /torch emote but it goes away when you move.
The adventurer personality frequently has a torch out while running around and not wielding a weapon.
But the best answer I've found is to get one of the arms packs with a very bright light and use it on your weapons/shields.
Not all of them are bright though.
Yes, it's a huge PITA we have to 'buy a torch' with Crowns.
Almalexia's Enchanted Lantern works well but it's a memento that only lasts a few seconds, so tiresome having to spam it.

I checked, it's 30 seconds, which is ample. Some places are meant to be dark, we're not supposed to change that by changing the gamma settings, or by using an unrealistic tool. Dark places are just part of the game and its lore.spitfire1525 wrote: »Get Almalexia's lantern (there's a quest that gives you this, just search for it).spitfire1525 wrote: »Some areas are really dark and magelight is not a light source like the FAQ says.....
works great but its like for 20 seconds. we need something better
I never said it was, which is why I proposed using Almalexia's lantern earlier in this thread. Changing brightness settings is unrealistic, in my opinion. I'm even using an addon for ESO which makes the nights darker and more realistic, to the point where I sometimes need the lantern to find my way through the dark woods. That's realism.
I remember the time when I had to use Almalexia's lantern. Otherwise the delves were very dark, yeah. But then I noticed that in the gamma settings the default slider position is not the optimal one. As it says, "pull the slider so the left image is barely visible". By default the image is completely invisible and if you pull the slider to the right a little so that the left image becomes barely visible, then you'll see that you don't even need the lantern anywhere actually. (Except some specific quests that are ment to be completely blacked out areas story-wise).

That's sort of true. Before I realized that Almalexia's Magic Lantern could be used, I ran around for years without using it, and thought I was doing very well in dark places. But when I finally noticed it among my mementos and started to use it, I was amazed at how much I'd been missing. You know those little urns and other small containers in tombs and Dwarven ruins that can hold anything from a lowly lockpick to a Dwemer crafting motif or rare recipe? Try looting all of those in the dark; you're likely to miss most of them. So for players who don't ever bother to loot stuff-- yeah, there's really no need for a light. But for players who want to make sure they don't miss anything, a light in dark places is a god(dess)send.
Almalexia’s Lantern is really great and actually better than a torch imo. You can activate it and continue to use your weapons in combat. I can’t imagine that you would be able to hold a torch and your weapons at the same time. You can get the lantern momento in Mournhold, Deshaan. It is part of the zone quest line. Just talk to the guard when entering Mournhold to set things in motion. I think it is either the second or 3rd quest in the line.
Several of the Opal weapon and shield styles give out a good amount of light, and those you can still buy from guild traders if you didn't get a ton from the recent Undaunted event. All a bit purple but some are quite nice.
The lantern does work very well, and lasts decently long for a memento. I used it for a long time before I had glowing weapons.
It became tiresome to have the light keep going away though when I was just trying to explore, and having to keep switching around between the lantern being active quick slot and potions for combat.
I then found the Opal weapons glowed 'for real' and then moved on to previewing the different Crown Arms Packs and choosing new ones based on the amount of light shed.
The Lightless Oubliette in Coldharbour. Also, if you use Votan's Darker Nights addon, the nights are more realistically dark, and the lantern is sometimes useful at night. Can someone give me an example of an area dark enough that you need a light source?
I don't think I've ever noticed that in this game, but I'm not sure if it's due to my settings or if I genuinely just haven't noticed. I keep the brightness quite low, but I think I have the gamma quite high so maybe that compensates for it.
