delinking from Steam?

Somewhere out there, there's probably an older thread about this, but I don't want to be accused of necroing it, so... :|

My recollection is that in the past, there was a way to delink your account from Steam by buying a new account directly through the ESO site and then, I believe, just logging in with your character ID from the old Steam account. But it seems like there were some additional steps beyond that, maybe? Does anyone know whether it's still possible to do this, and if so, what the exact steps are?

With the Black Fredas sale, the base game is only $5.99 (US), so it seems like a good time to get that done.

You have to buy another eso game on steam which then prompts you on which account you want to auto login with steam since you can only use one. Select the new account and it decouples the previous.

Oh, no, that's not what I'm talking about at all.

We already have multiple steam accounts on the same computer (for different household members who each have their own separate ESO account).

However, each of those ESO accounts is still linked to Steam, and can only be played through Steam.

What I'm talking about is that in the past, people have said that if you no longer want to play through Steam, you can buy a new copy of ESO through the ESO store (not through Steam), and then log in to your existing ESO account and take steps to decouple it from Steam so that you no longer have to open Steam to play ESO.

    no need to un-link steam
    - log in to your account page ( see customer support page for account recovery and how to get password, if you don't have due to steam log in ),
    - go to shop to get version you want,
    - find in Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\Launcher -> Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe and log in with your bethesda account skipping steam (or if you want download game again).

    Maybe I'm not being clear.

There is a need to unlink Steam, because we want to get rid of Steam altogether, but without losing years of account progress, purchases, etc., on our existing ESO accounts.

Nope - you don't have to unlink. I bought on steam (friend said it was best, but it wasn't....) but couldn't ever login (spent 2 weeks trying, never once got logged in), so I did some research, bought a second copy from amazon for less than $10 US, put the code into my account and haven't ever touched steam on this game since. That would be since early July of 2018. Yes, the steam setup is still there, and I'm actually still using the original steam install folder, but steam never touches my play time.

I think they understand what you are asking. The answer is you cannot unlink your game from Steam. It will always be there.

Based on their experiences you can buy a new base game (preferably on sale) from someone else or directly from ESO and never have to deal with Steam again.

    Good luck

I was told that you used to be able to unlink from steam but since 2019 that is no longer possible. That is second hand info but I gave up after pursuing a solution for a couple weeks.

I believe you can’t even buy a new copy of game from Zos store and use it to access your existing account. Zos was looking into that for me but I never heard back from them.

    Good luck

I bought my first account from ZoS, and have a login / launcher on my PC home screen. This launcher gives me the choice of which account to login to.

I bought my second ESO account through Steam, and when I log in through Steam, that is the only account it will let me long in to.

If I completely stopped accessing Steam - I still have access to any account through the PC launcher
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Actually, it is possible to unlink Steam. I did that myself, after buying ESO Standard Edition in the store here.

Simply send a support ticket and ask for it.
