I know its deaf ears... I know <long sigh> but still; these days stupid is REALLY stupid. Is that a thing now? I dont know if this post is constructive, but yeah... its worrying.

Sorry I'm dumb, what is ninja pulling?
  • priestnall.andrewrwb17_ESO
So a "ninja pull" is a wow thing... <boo hiss> it used to be a good game to be fair.... is when someone other than the assigned tank pulls.

Ah ok I've seen that in games. I guess I didn't put it together with the name.

If someone rushing ahead is causing problems for my tank, I say "You aggro it, you can tank it until I get there."

Either they think about it and slow down...or at least the group knows who to blame for the mobs being scattered all over.

And if they die before I get there, you'd better believe I'm laughing over it.

Maaa its a long showing; but it - eventually- displays a group of dudes and ladies committed to a mighty fine clear... and one person of low intelligence that wants to be a unpleasant person *you see what I did there. My deepest request to the DPS community at large is to not to that.

You cannot fix stupid. They will die over and over and over. I enjoy the initial lols... but I still want a clear,

I have 4 healers and 2 tanks. I can count on a handful of times in the last two years that when on my tank in a pug I was actually able to pull in advance of some itchy trigger DD. Same goes on my healers. Unless you are doing a vet DLC, it really doesn't amount to much in the end other than an annoyance. Tbh most times, I just let said person (s) die a few times to this practice they love, after which they figure it out and don't do it again. >:)

I only ever pull anything on my DPS that I know I can solo. But I also know how to group them effectively, so when I see a tank not doing that, I sometimes make the pulls to clear some of them faster.

Ah, it's a WoW term. "In the MMORPG world of warcraft a ninja pull is when a member in your group or raid purposely pulls a pack of mob s or a boss when the group or raid isn't ready for the encounter."

What they're saying is DON'T RUN AHEAD AND PULL AHEAD OF THE TANKS, 4HEADS.

Back in my grouping days in EQ, in my regular guild group the ranger (not a tank) always pulled the mob to the group which took over the aggro, leaving the ranger to head out and line up the next pull. He rarely took part in the actual fights, his job was to pull. If the group was still busy dealing with his previous pull then either he'd kite the next one or the enchanter would mesmerise it till we were ready. Highly efficient!

4 DPS for the win I guess

These days that's the way a lot of games operate because most players want to be DPS, but the whole attraction of EQ in the early days was that each role was needed. DPS was typically a mage or wizard, tank was typically a paladin, healer was typically a cleric, and crowd control was an enchanter. They were the specialists and there were several utility classes like druid and especially shaman that could perform any of the roles. Nobody really understood just what (and how much) necromancers could bring to a group except the necromancers themselves  !

Respect; but since the world discovered MMOS the tank has pulled. Bring it!

Well, until WoW came up with Misdirect, at which point the Hunter pulled to the tank.
But I haven't played WoW in quite awhile, so I've no idea where they evolved after that.

Also, you're really only talking about hard / progression content. Places where there's actually a need for tanks to control things carefully.

[snip] that level of group dynamics is pure love.

I have no issue with it as long as it's not a speed run and doesn't get anyone killed, tbh. As long as the dps doesn't aggro the boss without group present, I couldn't care less how people want to run it. Every group is different. If a dps can handle it, more power to them.

I have no obligation to help someone running ahead of the group. If they can do it, I'll let them. If they can't, I'll laugh as they die.

I used to do trials with this leader who would spend so long explaining all the mechanics. We'd get a 10 minute walk through for the final bosses before we started. Just of the one or two people who hadn't done it before. And I'm not talking vet- normal Craglorn trials and normal AS.

You could see me and half a dozen over people getting all twitchy wanting to start it. I always managed to resist the urge. Others didnt.

You can't control people so I just can't see a way of fixing this issue.

It's a prehistoric issue that will never evolve out of the cave....in essence I am referring to these Ninja pullers as cavemen.

Honestly one of the reasons this happens is tanks not being quick about what they are doing. Everyone else is already prepared to move to the next fight, and they are not. So people get impatient and just start the fight, and more often than not it works out just fine so people keep doing it.

Define "see" a tank "not doing that." Becuase if you run faster than me in 7 heavy armor, no you won't "see" me grouping the adds because it's too much of a mess by the time I get there.

      DONT
      RUN
      AHEAD

      Full stop.

Edit: and if no tank will ever group adds to YOUR specifications.... you can queue as a tank. Every time some DPS races ahead pulling adds and doing small pulls when I was going to do a big one... I just tell them to queue as a tank if they want to play tank. Much shorter wait, I guarantee you.

Tanks don't play as tanks because we want to run around missing out on XP and loot because the whole group ignores that we exist (we're even SLOWER after the recent armor changes). We play tanks because we like tanking. Many of us are good at it. But if a group isn't going to let us to what we're there to do... ok, no big deal to me I can just insta-queue again until I get a group that behaves like a GROUP and not 3 random people running around like chickens.

Edit2: Sorry but not sorry for the rant. So tired of this "DPS doesn't need a tank" attitude. Even in guild groups, that KNOW I'm a real tank and know how to group, do this "run ahead and help the tank." You're NOT helping, no matter how "good" a job you think you're doing. If you don't want a tank, don't use finder or don't ask for a tank in your group! If your tank actually sucks, do whatever you want. But give your tank a CHANCE TO SHOW YOU IF THEY'RE GOOD OR NOT!
If the first thing you do after port is start running ahead, you're doing groups wrong.

I mean you can show you're a good tank regardless of who does the pulling. The grouping of the mobs is secondary to handling the most dangerous of the adds.

I often DO queue tank, and I really don't care if people want to pull trash because I'm always ready to handle the most dangerous adds. If they let me get em nice and grouped up, great. If not, it'll die eventually. Doesn't matter to me.

Maybe because I'm more often on my fake tank than real one, and primarily play dps, but it just doesn't bother me as long as the dungeon doesn't take an eternity.

+1 dont ninja anything please : this includes those that never speak and sneak around looting chests and not telling the group

PSA that no one will care about, but 'ninja' pulling/looting/killing was around before WoW it is not a 'WoW term'
