I keep seeing over the social media and almost everywhere that involves with MMORPGs that people keep arguing about graphics. Why? This isnt some multi billion holywood production, personally I'm fine with the graphics, I do like how it looks and I do like the armour textures as well as character textures. They are detailed enough to me satisfy my needs. I think people expecting way too much from technology nowadays, this isnt some ultra fast computer or a NASA cellphone, this is a game made in years ago and people acting like little children who lost his/her toy

Remember we came to this point from 286 and dial up modems and people already wanting super duper of everything. Calm, relax and chill, try to enjoy what we have, sure, I would like too more advanced graphics but thats just not going to happen anytime soon as far as I know, especially not when big corporations like Microsoft, Google etc are too high nose and arrogant, they think the dollars first than anything else, not your (or anyone's, I'm not blaming to anyone here) graphics taste.

Its just can use a bit more better shadows but thats it, its good enough to me and I do like how my character looks. Wish I could run on a better computer but thats all I can afford at the moment which is my problem,

Cheers

No, I like ESO’s graphics, too. My friend called it a deal-breaker for him that it’s low-poly and low-res textures but I enjoy it for the gameplay and stories.

I’ve never been particularly visually stimulated, though. I walk round an art gallery and it’s the antiquity of the piece that affects me more than the aesthetic. Widescreen TV, HD, 4K - they looked great for about five minutes and then they just became normal. ESO on Xbox Series X is great for being 60fps but I’m not fussed about the graphics updates. Visually, it was fine on my Xbox One X.

while it can't compete with new solo player games, the game is able to give a very convincing ambience, the atmosphere of the different regions is very immersive.
The depressing tristesse of Glenumbra, the holiday ambience of Auridon/summerset, the "western movie" style of northern Elsweyr.

I find it so convincing, that I feel no pressure yet to upgrade to the new xbox series X. Have watched comparison videos, yes, a little more detail, but the ambience is so convincing already now, that I am happy as it is.

I often just run around, exploring regions because of the nice look.
Or enter a house/compound I bought, to rest at places I created to gain a view on the terrific views (you can build on the water of the psijic villa to finally see the sun for example).

What adds up to the good illusion, is the great integration of sound. The music never annoying, matches the region. Sounds like footsteps differ depending on the ground you walk on. You usually do not notice them awaringly, but they are there and strengthen the feeling of "being there".
The sounds in Grathwood remind me of being teleported to the rainforrest of Kakamega in Kenya. Well done.
I just ordered a tube headphone amp with treble/bass knobs to be able to improve the good sound experience even a little more. (I use a Bose headphone, that sounds much much better than a standard xbox headset, the headset removes the immersive feeling).

The argument for graphics was understandable back in the late 90's and through the 00's, but now it's just ridiculous stuff like subsurface scattering and godrays. Yeah, it looks pretty, but it's not groundbreaking leaps like it was seeing gaming go from pixel sprites to 3d, or from low poly to high poly. And it gets even more pointless since most games opt for stylized art over photorealism.

The graphics for this game on a technical level are fine. Some of the stylization I could personally tweak, but that's very subjective.

A lot of the games I like are very artistic and I think they look nice but they don't have the fancy super graphics effects. When I was younger Connect 4 and Chinese Checkers were way more fun than Mouse Trap. It's all about the 'game' and not the way it looks.

I love the graphics in ESO... I have no complaints. I played recent AC games and found them similar to ESO in quality- Oddyssey was my fave btw, absolutely loved it... Valhalla not so much. ;)

One of the reasons I keep playing is because of the quality of graphics and 'real life' aspect. Some games are just too 'cartoonish' graphic wise, and I really hate that. I've previously played DCUO for years and FFXIV as well and both had a more cartoonish/anime aspect to them. I love anime, don't get me wrong, but it takes away from being able to identify with your character when they are so different from myself; probably why I can only play a Breton or Imperial in the game.

I like the graphics, although it would be lovely if they did patch in some higher-res textures on the original game areas. The DLC areas look noticeably better than the original zones.

If people want to see a game that has absolutely TERRIBLE textures they should look at Sims 4. (Not an MMO, I know, but still ... every time I look at that game I cringe.)
I don't play any other MMO, so I can't compare.

I like it a lot better than WoW (not that I've played that game lately - been gone since 2013). RIFT was about the same as WoW when I left it in 2016. ESO is "advanced" enough for me - I don't need fancy graphics and animations to enjoy a game. After all, I still play Oblivion! And Skyrim, without a whole lot of graphics mods.

I keep seeing over the social media and almost everywhere that involves with MMORPGs that people keep arguing about graphics. Why?

People have been arguing everywhere that involves MMORPGs video games about graphics, for decades. Partially because they have to justify the money they spent on their Latest-Uber-GPU.

Also, some people are just graphics snobs (overlaps with the "bought the latest/greatest GPU" crowd) who need to have everything they run be using the Absolute Latest And Best Tech ("why isn't this using DX15 with <insert fancy graphics technique here>").

...reminds me of some stylized-graphics indie zombie game years ago, someone popped up on the forums wondering why it wasn't taxing his 1080Ti (near top of the line at the time). Um, because it's an indie zombie game with stylized/sorta-low graphics?

edit: I think the game is quite pretty. Prettier now, that I turned on multi-threaded rendering and turned up a few things in the options. While I definitely like a pretty game, it's not a deal-breaker for me. Personally, I've never spent more than $175 on a GPU (I've had 3 in the last ~10 years, currently an RX570), and I'm willing to turn down FPS for pretty options. I played Skyrim, FO4, Control, and Cyberpunk around 40fps, and enjoyed them. /shrug

There's a sizeable screenshot community on Instagram that seems to be pretty happy with ESO's visuals. ;)

And several threads on these forums as well.

The game is 8 years old, and was developed probably several years before that so for a 10+ year old game it looks pretty good.

I can't imagine a game without the very latest in graphics tech being a "deal breaker" for me. I look at games I've played recently like Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds (two different games) and they have good but not hyper realistic graphics.

So much more important (or at least equally important) is aesthetics, atmosphere, world building, content, story, gameplay etc...

A lot of more popular MMOs have way worse graphics options so not sure how there's can be any bashing involved. It's an old game that started it's development in what, 2007 or something? At least it can launch decently on really old hardware on pretty high settings still and be playable.

On the other hand, I think animations need to become a bit more fluid...NPC's..our characters..combat and movement.

I like it and i'm sure we are going to see many improvements in the future.

With the new multithreaded rendering I have lots of headroom. (The game runs at average 140fps in 4k even in trials)

Tho launch zones have a dated feeling but everything from wrothgar forwards looks great.

FFXIV doesn't even have proper AA...

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

Maybe I'm easy to please, who knows, but I don't feel like I need to see every little snowflake on the ground or ripple in the water to enjoy the experience. If I wanted to see that, I would go out. You know, in the real world.

No, OP, you're not the only one. I think that ESO looks great, and I think most people would consider ESO to be a good looking MMO.

The only real complaints I see about ESO's graphics are the visual pollution of so many effects going off and not being able to see what's actually happening. There can be so much graphical clutter in this game at times that it's more detrimental than not.

But the visual clutter is pretty :)

Most people who complain about ESO's graphics are either running it on a low-end machine or have the graphics dialed down. They don't know what they are missing. I have graphics set to maximum and the zones are truly AMAZING. For example, Craglorn with graphics dialed down looks like a bleak boring desert, but with graphics set to maximum it becomes a semi-lush grassland with amazing details. ESO is probably the best looking MMO ever made.

The base game zones are pretty rough looking but if I remember correctly they were done years before the game launched. I read an article that talked about the length of time ESO was in development. Wish I could reference it but that was quite a while ago.

Starting with Orsinium, which was pretty early on, I find the look of the new game zones to be awesome. Of course, if there’s an expectation that ESO is going to be able to compete graphically with single player games you’re bound to be disappointed.

I think that the graphics in ESO are far nicer and more realistic for sure, and people are always bitching about how bad the graphics are in DCUO and how they need an update, blah, blah, blah. It’s a ten year old game and it was designed to fit the comics art style of Jim Lee, it fits because it’s a super hero game, it’s supposed to be that way. I love it personally.

As someone who started playing video games on the first consoles, like Dandy and Sega, I don't pay much attention to graphics. Graphics play a role of course, but I pay more attention to gameplay then graphics. For example I still play VTMB game that was out when windows XP was still rolling. And this is an old MMO, and by judging how old it is, it has nice a graphics. I still sometimes stop to enjoy the view in some places.

If you want bad graphics look at WoW, and to be honest, despite its graphics I would play WoW, but it takes too much time to gear up and just enjoy the game. WoW is never ending treadmill, by the time you gear up, new gear comes out. In ESO however, it's very easy to gear up, and it's much more solo friendly, since you can solo many dungeons. I like ESO because it doesn't put a heavy emphasis on gear, it's more playing for the sake of playing, and I like it that way. It's like Skyrim for example, you didn't play it to gear up, you were playing it for the sake of playing it, and this is the case here.

With that said, graphics is on the second or third place what I am looking for in the game. Gameplay always first.

I like them very much :)
Even being an older title\engine they manage to do some phenomenal looking zones.
Sure the models are lower poly than most recent titles (understandably) but I think their environmental design teams work very well together. Textures, models, lighting and sound give us some stunning views and details. They do amazing stuff for the constraints they have to work within.

I also like that there is a zone for pretty much any mood.
Feel like crunching around in the snow, exploring frigid tombs? Got that.
    Twilight-spooky feels? Got that.
Deep jungles, swamps with Aztec\Mayan feels, desert plains and mountains? Yup.
    Very diverse.

I love ESO's graphics as I came from games like Quake, the old Need for Speed games, Star Trek Online, and other low res games. If anything super highly detailed graphics for the sake of having super highly detailed graphics turns me off from a game. I'm more interested in the art style, sound design, and game play.
