Raid group gets banned for discovering and reporting game-breaking bug on Bahsei boss fight

The way I see it there's 2 potential reasons the raid group was banned.

    1. The bug report was read by someone who misinterpreted it and thought they were reporting cheating.
    2. They abused the exploit before reporting it.

If (1) is true, then the correct response is to escalate it so the report/ban is reviewed by someone higher up.

If (2) is true... well... no sympathy in that case.

ZOS countless times have said that they NEVER ban without a confirmed reason.

Literally they said that, if you are banned, it's because they CONFIRMED you deserve the ban.

That sounds a whole lot like "We have investigated ourselves and have cleared ourselves of any wrong-doing"

Joke all you want, but every single time I see someone banned, they claim they are not guilty, that they were testing, that they didn't know, that it was not them, that it was not on purpose.

But ZOS takes the time to check all of that before banning.

So joke all you want, but ZOS doesn't toss a coin to ban, they ban for a reason.

    Gina posted this on Reddit

“ Hey everyone, just wanted to pop in here to let everyone know this situation is being fully investigated through the use of in-game logs, voice data, and other relevant information. While we can’t discuss the outcomes of any disciplinary action against accounts, just know that we are taking this seriously and will decide on any further or necessary action once our investigation is complete.

In general, if you come across a major bug in ESO, the best course of action is to not take advantage of it (doing so is considered exploiting). Please stop whatever you’re doing and report it to us via /bug in-game, or messaging a ZOS team member on our forums or even here on reddit. Posting information publicly or streaming the exploit are not proper avenues to report the issue.

We also want to clarify that simply reporting a bug or bot is not grounds for a suspension or ban against your account, though there may be situations where we need to temporarily freeze your account while an investigation takes place. If you feel your account has been wrongfully actioned, please be sure to submit an appeal at help.elderscrollsonline.com so we can properly assist. Thanks for your help, everyone!”

Another thing that struck me when I read the Reddit post was the way they used the word "showcase," which almost made it sound like they were saying they'd recorded their video to show other players how to trigger and exploit the bug. They might not have meant it to sound that way, but if I were ZOS and took it that way then I'd probably instantly perma-ban them, too.

Some time ago I was banned because I transferred a large amount of gold to my mule account, but after sending a ticket and an explanation and proof that I am not a gold seller in 2 days I had my account back.

maybe it's part of the protocol to suspend the accounts until the investigation is over, or maybe it was human error or maybe they discovered something shady in their accounts.

Reporting a bug or exploit does not clear you to benefit from the exploit or bug. You should not clear something if the clear would be due to the bug.

But permaban for a one time clear of a bug is a bit much IMO. They can dig into logs and find out if it was being repeated over and over or if it was done on purpose, etc. and hopefully if not, they just clear everyone and move on.

    [Quoted post has been removed.]

This right here is why I never report anything. My account may get frozen until they investigate? That can take days. Why would anyone risk it.
I currently know 2 similar exploits what OP was describing, 1 arena and other in dungeon. Some people use them regularly but I'm afraid to report it coz I used it myself once to see them. They both give advantage to speed and no death run and arena also for score.

Reporting bugs, exploits and cheating should be encouraged and even rewarded somehow, not punished. Afterall it's the devs who are responsible for the bug and people finding and reporting are only helping to improve their product. I know Zos doesn't want people to showcase exploits to others or repeatedly use them but imo it's best that those things come out so they can be fixed quick. A lot of players know many exploits and use them. Zos may or may not know all of them, but since they are not widely known to everyone, they're not fixed. That gives advantage to some people. Dear Zos, exploits SHOULD BE showcased to others because otherwise they are never fixed and some "special privileged" players keep using them while the rest of us "peasants" have to play fair.
