If you log in in any platform you will have the same progress, same character, same everything
So you could link a ps, xbox and the pc equivalent to your eso account (kind of like twitch link for drops) and no matter on what you log on you would get the same character list

And is Destiny2 a game like ESO with guilds and a constant server? Does that mean everybody plays on the same server? Or do character actions not have an effect on the world?

My concern is that cross play would force us to the lowest common denominator (consoles) in terms of performance and gameplay. I also don't think it would be healthy for console players to feel like they have to go head to head with PC players. Performance, Input Devices, Addons, Etc., are going to put console at a disadvantage. There is enough Salt in Tamriel.

I am all for allowing consoles to transfer accounts, but I think that is more of a legal issue than a technical one. I wouldnt hold my breath.

D2 has individual servers for PC, XBox, Playstation, and Stadia. Beyond that, it's effectively just a bite sized MMO. Players (almost) never influence the world in any meaningful way.

That said, I'm pretty sure Destiny 2 does have crossplay now.

As good as it sounds in theory, there are just too many conflicts.

- each console has its own in-game economy
- PC has addons and console does not (and the answer is not to ban addons)
- Not sure the ZOS servers would be able to handle the greater load
- instances could suffer from overcrowding. Imagine trying to mat farm when there are 10's of thousands of new players running around. I shutter to think.

I think a nice alternative, should be the ability to either transfer characters between platforms, or the ability to clone your account on another platform. (which also has some issues)

as much as i would to play with more people, the logistics of making that happen when everyone is already so ingrained in their platform of choice would just be hellish for ZOS

The difference is that FF 14 has +50 servers / realms, ESO has 6 using its megaserver system.
And FF 14 was designed with it in mind.
In ESO you can not get an transfer between US and EU servers at all as they has not created an system for transfer.
And unlike lobby games ESO and FF 14 has an persistent overland world.
The only way to create cross-play in ESO is to merge servers who has performance issues before getting different cultures like on pc its common to require discord for pvp or trials guilds runs. Now an good in game chat could eliminate this but it could be nice to have people not in group in chat for an training trial.

I don't really care about cross play, but what I do want is cross save. I want the ability to log on to my PC to go into Cyrodiil or MSA or run a trial, but then when I just want to quest or farm, I can log onto the same account on my Xbox and sit on my couch...

Oh, I think the majority of PC players have more than 10 add-ons. I run about twice that.

I just went and joined eso forum for the simple reason to put my 2 cents in on this topic...

Cross play does not have to be PC(Steam) combined with Xbox. ESO is currently not available in the windows store.

The model that ARK uses works perfectly. If you want addons and stuff you buy the game on steam. If you want to play with your family, friends and others on xbox you buy it in the windows store. No new servers or any special attention required. You simply take the Xbox version of the code and click the checkbox on the store version that say compile for PC...

You can already play from PC to Xbox using Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and XCloud Gaming. Albeit there are a bunch of bugs to still work out but it does work.(I hope they fix some of the bugs soon...)

I have little interest in playing with addons I have a house full of foster kids and they all want to play together. They all have laptops that are able to play other xbox games together (such as Ark and Minecraft) and they have an xbox on every TV in the house. Lets just let these kids play together...

I've just been doing some of the technical testing for Halo Infinite (the only FPS I play) and they are playing around with Xbox and PC cross play and although I see the benefits their is a huge argument about how it should be best implemented.

Don't think I'd like cross platform on this game unlees it was done right, but rather have a platform change, if it be a 1 off type of thing or a paid thing I don't mind.
