In the Future #6: Companion Faces

In the future, if you are going to make only two companions that players can obtain - in an MMO - then please make it so players don't see doubles.

Sure, I get wanting the companion to maintain their identity. However you can see how unappealing & non-immersive it is to just see Bastion's and Mirri's everywhere.

If companions can't have a helmet covering their face then make it so other players companions faces look different to the player.

Example: from my perspective, the face of my Bastion won't look like someone else's Bastion and vice versa. (this is how ZOS handles quest NPCs that are traveling with a player)
Also I have a small question; If there are companions coming in the crown store or in future chapters, then what feature did Blackwood exactly have? Unless there aren't anymore companions coming and I doubt that is the case.

I guess that is why ZOS made the companions attached to quests in Blackwood that players have to do on every character to have access to the companion.
Ah well just another lesson to keep in mind...in the future.

    I don't know about the solution but I agree there's a problem.

Someone on the forums told me that they admitted this was not intentional and will be fixed at some point in the future but I have found exactly zero information to substantiate that. I really do wish they would do something about the clones though

Aren't quest NPCs like Lyris just replaced by the same generic Solitude guard?

So Mirri and Bastian would still be replaced by clones and we'd see the same faces, just not Mirri and Bastian's face.

For real immersion, there's just no better way to go than helmets.

That being said, I suspect the main reason we don't get helmets is that ZOS wants us to get future Companions for their looks. Say I wanted a female Imperial companion for this chapter - well, I can't exactly stick a helmet on Mirri and pretend.

Actually i prefer the way its done right now
At least now every companion as diferent outfit so if you dont give them attention they could look like different character

On the other way around, all of them would looke absolutly identical, outfit and dye included😱

It would already help if we could change hair and beard (or just hair for Mirri). I suspect that not every hairstyle available to players would fit, but even if we could just use 4 or 5 stair styles it would at least add some variety.

When the devs introduced and spoke about companions, they said they wanted to start with only two and keep things a bit basic at first to work out any bugs and emergent details, etc. They were clear though that they absolutely expect to be introducing more companions over time and considering new features as well. Romance options, for example, was one future feature they said they are looking at. So I'd expect companions to evolve over time - both in numbers and features.

Considering that the armor they wear is unique to them, they totally could’ve done unique helmets for these characters as well

My idea only applied to the face. Armor customization would still be determined by the player

That's why we need to be able to apply hair/beard/adornments/face markings to them... we have them sitting in our collections anyway, so why not use them?

It would largely solve the problem of constantly running into doubles (not to mention that I'd kill for a Bastian with the casual rascal hairstyle ;) ).

IMO the LEAST they could do is let us use Hats and Major Adornments. That I think could be the perfect middle ground and it would also give us more incentive to buy these types of items in the future too.

It doesn’t seem too far a stretch to add a feature when you unlock the companion you go straight to an appearance menu like the character creation one.

And maybe a dialog selection menu as well, lol, though I’d likely miss some of Bastion’s naive repartee re: city life.

I'd love unique face options, or at least some basic customization like hair, eyes, etc.
Also still puzzled as to why they omitted helmets for them.
But I do feel given the popularity of them we will see additions and expansions to the companion "pool" and options. Looking forward to that.
