The fact that I can see other people's companions just completely ruined the game for me.

TESO is an MMO game, so unfortunately we have to deal with "immersion breaking" situations.
I think what devs should to is to drop this silly stance about companions not wearing helmets. I noticed people dress their companions in all sorts of different outfits. With their heads covered it would be way easier to immerse yourself.

    COMPANION COSMETICS & APPEARANCE

    Customizing Companion Appearance:

You can customize your Companion using many of your own cosmetic collectibles. This includes mounts, costumes, and outfits. Companions have a default mount which they will utilize when you mount up, but this can be overridden through the Companion menu in your Collectibles UI.

Costumes you have unlocked may be applied through the Collectibles tab as well, with any associated applied dyes being shared across your and your Companion’s appearance per costume.

Visiting an outfit station allows you to configure a dedicated outfit slot, with each Companion having a dedicated slot per character.

I don't mind the multitudes of drones but what does bother me is all the quest markers over their heads, please fix this Zos. also why should players have to carry the companions gears & weapons, why cant they themselves also have an inventory to at least carry their own stuff, inventory management was already a huge problem before companions were released, now its even worse (especially if you want your companion to be able to do multiple things such as Tank, heal, dps in different fights).

You wont have to worry about any of that once they start selling you companions through the cash shop. [snip] Also you will never see them disguise companions. Part of the selling point for them will be showing them off, if that doesn't happen then they won't be able to make as much money selling cosmetics for them.

I would like an option to only show pets/allies/companions of people in your group, and not of anyone else.

As a positive side effect, that might actually help with server performance as well...

I doubt it would help with server side performance, it would help your computer not having to render them is all. They would still be there. I don't understand all this emotion over immersion breaking. Seeing someone on a flaming cat is more immersion breaking to me. I want to get a bucket of water to put the fire out. Seriously, of all things to complain about

the game is barely immersion-friendly as it is, what with multiple bankers and merchants running around. at least with companions, you can change their outfit

I am quite sure that someone in this discussion may have said that allready, in this case this is ment as support of the idea.

What about completly beeing able to customize them, that, if you encounter them, the character-creater will appear just as if you would create a new player character for yourself. You can edit the entire appearance from race to hight, bodyshape, face, ... just everything as you used to be. Even the voice by having choices on different pre-set editings of the recordings to fit different characters (higher voice, lower voice, hissing undertone, etc.)

That would not only solve the problem of clones for good, but also improve on realy living your own story within the game. 'Cause at least this character will be the one you're ment to completly share it from that moment on, so I think you realy should be able to customize them to the fullest.

The voice part is probably on the verge of impossible for the game, since companions, unlike player characters, have plenty of lines to speak. It will mean either they will have to record different voices or alter the only one they recorded. I don't think the latter will work out nicely, it will still either require too much resources for ZOS to even care or sound too generic. But would be a great option: I've been running around with Bastian for almost two weeks now and still can't connect his voice with his appearance xD And they are both default and supposed to suit each other!

    I hear what you're saying.
ESO has never been a game for immersion.
How can I agree to this comment multiple times

I know different people have different expectations when it comes to immersion.
And I am also aware my standard of immersion is too high for most games.
I am also aware most MMOs are not immersive.
But still ESO is one of the least immersive game out there and on top of that also one of the least immersive MMO out there and on top of that one of the least immersive theme-park MMO out there.

I like this game for different reasons but immersion is not one of it.And I get shocked when people find this game immersive.
The expectation standard can be so low.
My immersion standard is now CK3, the only game that satisfies RPG immersion and where all the world feels as alive as I can imagine.

But searching for immersion in ESO is like searching for a needle in a haystack. You really really have to try hard.

PS: You can definitely still find this game immersive so no offense and it is just my 2 cents. And not every game need to be immersive, some game can be gamey.

I guess I don’t understand why when me and some other random player are doing the same quest and a specific NPC is following me it shows some random NPC for the other player on my screen but the same couldn’t be done with companions or bankers, merchants. This would go a long way for adding immersion and the code is already being used in the game.

I understand your feelings about this OP, but hopefully as time progresses we'll get more Companions and there will be a variety of options for people to use and abuse.

Since I've unlocked Bastion, I've seen him as NPC (younger versions) in various regions, Blackwood and in Clockwork City. Plus, I saw the call to you merchant lady as an NPC in Blackwood as well (the ghost writer mission).

Now that was jarring a bit, made me wonder why couldn't they use a Random person generator to make these mission NPCs.

Facial customization would be awesome, but I'm sure they are just going to hash out more companions for us to unlock/buy in the future.

I think it would be awesome if I could place them in my homes as well, weirdly they can't be.

They can. When you get them to max rapport you unlock them as houseguests. You don't need to fully fill out their rapport bar, you just need to reach the last rank of rapport status with them, which is "companion".

I don't understand when people say "Idc about the helmet so its not important" okay great. But why be against an option that would be inclusive to both those who prefer helmets and those who do not? outright just not allowing helmets caters to one small group of people who don't care about immersion and just don't give a *** about the little details. There are many others who I've met in and out of game that hate the sea of Bastian and Miri faces. Like literally it'd be so easy to just enable helmets and those who don't give a crap about it can carry on not equipping any and those who do can use helmets.

I hate it when studios try to tell you how to be immersed. The entire reason of not adding helmets was due to ZOS wanting to retain the personality of said companions. But how can someone retain a unique personality when you see 20 of them running around? Just allow helmets and everyone can get what they want.

Actually, you unlock them as house guests right after their quests, which is when you reach "friendly" status.

They could allow for adding a helmet at the outfit station with an note that says only other players will see it. Then your Mirri/Bastian will always be helmet free and ready to talk, but others would see them with their helmet on.

EDIT: All my characters have helmets hidden, so I definitely get it and don't want to cover MY Mirri's face either.

Right...after their last quest, right? I think you need to be above friendly for that. Friendly triggers the first quest but I had to do many more Mages Guild dailies to get Bastian's second to pop. Honestly it's felt like years with these two already, all the dailies have merged...

My one quest led right into the other, I didn't have to continue grinding after the first. Not sure if that was supposed to happen. I was waiting for more quests when I leveled her rapport up more, then went back and checked my achievements and had already done both of them (so one must have led right into the other). I just hit "companion" with her and it's at like 95% of the bar and you get no more quests up there (just a gift from her). Also didn't get any quests during our "close" phase.

Folks have said that with Mirri they got her quests back to back. That wasn't my experience with Bastian, I definitely had to grind out a lot of rapport between the two. I think it's weird that they have different thresholds, but just another thing to differentiate them I suppose

I agree with OP. I wanted a wood elf gal companion with the ability to rename her, to play out a role play duo, and be able to customize their appearance. IF they can beat a dead horse with the numerous skins on mounts, I figured this would be achievable. Plus. I want an animal companion for my Warden, so I can have a bear (maybe with more animal skin variants for the ultimate) and this animal companion. Shoot.. add a wolf skin when you WW out and have a full pack with you. So much potential but I agree, they should be private in overland world, and only visible in instances e g. Dungeons, trials and maybe delves. But not in town or anywhere else overland. It is a sea of clones when that happens. All mobs should auto target the owner verses the companion.
