To all people running dungeons: from a Tank

I would like to extend a little request for dungeon running etiquette to all from a tank.

1) if you have not run a dungeon before, please let the group know BEFOREHAND. I can’t speak for everyone but I never get annoyed teaching new people a dungeon. I DO get annoyed if new people do t say anything then blame other people.
2) If you’re a DPS please research just basics of it. You don’t have to put up huge numbers, but an attempt at dps is appreciated.
3) DONT bring your pvp toons into vet dungeons.
4) Ask questions! We’ve all been new. I just PUGged 3 new people in vet fang lair. I taught them all the whole dungeon and they successfully did it.
5) Don’t be mean!!!!! If someone is holding a group back, try to help them. If there’s hostility in a group, tell them to be respectful. It’s a game.

Newer players also don't understand the difficulty gap between normal and vet as far as DLC dungeons go and assume that because vet Fungal 1 wasn't much harder than normal, vet Cauldron won't be much worse than normal.

As a healer main I would also add:
    6) if you continue to stay out of my range don't blame me if you die, to some extent I am willing to give you your personal combat prayer but if mechanics call, tank has priority for everything I have
    7) play with mechanics, they're there to help us actually complete dungeon, bosses are not parsing dummies
    8) turn on red zones for incoming attacks :P
    9) if you're a tank and have no resists nor sufficient hp and die to simple mobs, don't blame healer; we're not miracle makers
    10) especially in vet dlc's - if you're tank, consult your gear with the healer, it actually helps and personally I carry several sets to make runs smooth (yes, even in PUGs and I run PUGs a lot, almost exclusively)

Litterally this should be a PSA in game everytime you grab an undaunted daily or queue for a random. This game does terrible teaching basic mechanics. Thing I hate the most is range dps running around. Just because you're range does NOT mean you need to move every possible second. Just stand maybe 8 to 10 game meters behind the boss to stay out of some mechanics, but still within buffs and range of heals. Kkthnx.

    11) If you run ahead and get yeeted don't blame me.
    12) Do not take a synergy that's right on me when you're halfway across the room and ran to get it even though you don't need it.
    13) Get your butt out of my face. If you're infront of the tank and the boss you're doing something wrong.
    14) Please drop your atro to the side, not on my head. I cant see.
    15) I stand in the stupid, not you.

Also if you see me (the tank) to run through the dungeon, getting aggro and stacking the adds in a corner, please come with me and don't stay back because adds spread around and you ruin my train.

Doing vet dungeons with random players is risky. And if you're eso+, there's a possibility to play a dlc dungeon which are unknow for some people and harder in general.

Pvp build may be good, depends your rôle, and also the dungeon. I'd say, if the player respects the mechanics of the dungeon there's no problem.

The problem is that if I open my chat box to even say hi when I first enter the dungeon, the group has run ahead to the first fight by the time I close my chat box.

YES. I experienced this 2 days ago. Was in vet March of Sacrifices and on the first mob I noticed the group was struggling on first trash pack. They were talking in chat among themselves and I figured maybe they where just too distracted talking to each other. Got to first boss (3 sisters) and that took 11 minutes to clear due to them dying and complaining about their skills not firing.

Made it to 2nd boss and after they all died 4 times before the healer says, “I’m not sure why we are dying so much, we cleared City of Ash just fine with no deaths.” Then I heard one say something about traits need to be all health as a DPS and that as a DPS you should split your health and stamina 50/50. Well that’s when I hoped on the microphone. Took 30 minutes to explain the difference between vet and normal and also the difference between dlc dungeons and non dlc dungeons. They didn’t even understand Champion points. But they all were CP 400ish. Apparently they power leveled to 400 and started doing vet randoms for helms and purple drops. After finding out they were still in found random gear, I crafted the 2 DPS a set of crafted gear to get them by until they found better gear.

Normally I’d just leave group and reque since I’m a tank, but that floored me and pushed me to use my mic (which I rarely do) and waste resources crafting them gear.

I don't mind Maw of the Infernal too much but DO NOT RUN IT IN BANISHED CELLS 2. All those daedroths running around and it can be pretty difficult to tell which ones are yours and which ones are Rilis's, which I have to tank...

Completely agree with all this. Like the other night I was bored and went into a random vet for the reward, got everyone there blackheart HM, almost no death as well but hagraven boss decided to stack fire lol

First question I always ask with Low CP randoms: "Do you need the quest here?"

The next: "Done the dungeon before?"

If they need the quest I let people know where the trigger points are so we dont accidentally skip them, if they haven't done it before I teach them mechanics.

And I am a DD, but I also tank and heal, I mained heal for quite a while before going back to DPS. So I know most of the dungeons off by heart from all perspectives.

On the last point though, The thing is even if you aren't mean and you're quite kind about the advice you're giving they can become hostile anyway because they can see it as condescension even if it isn't. So just on that point, try to help people but if they're a jerk when you try to do so because they're too proud to accept help or w/e just leave them be. Protracting it just makes them become toxic even if you aren't being toxic.
Ah, e-communities - the "pinnacle" of the internet............yeah, right.

You're not seeing new players at the level your complaints are aimed at.

You're seeing bad PUGs, but that's different.

It takes a LONG TIME to grind up to Max level and then enough CP to get to DLC Vet Dungeons. The only way to do it fast would be the grind a LOT of dungeons. Which also happens to be a good way to learn how to do it right, so it's probably NOT the method the folks your seeing used.

As someone who has yet to have enough CP to enter Vet DLC dungeons. While I was a super casual player for a very long time, and just came back from a year off. Last year I spent a couple months focusing up in this game and trying to reach that content. It took me a while to hit 50 on that first toon, and about another month or two to hit 250 CP.

When I first hit 48, the DLC Normals opened up, and it was a massive wipefest for me. That right there told me I was not ready. So I got ready, which took quite some time. That essentially has forewarned me that Vet DLC will be a rough landing.

I may end up being one of those bad PUGs or I might now when I get there.

But one thing that will be certain is I won't be new. The path to that point is a slow slog. CPs come very slow if you're just running around doing random open world stuff. They spike up for me when I take a 50 into a dungeon.

New Players... those are the people you're gonna get if you run 'random normal' queue on a character that is below level 35 or so. They're usually also bad - but you have 50/50 odds they will listen to advice.

Sadly the ones you're seeing in Vet DLC have remained bad despite likely being around for more than a year, and likely having done a LOT of content. They aren't new, they're just bad. And if you're seeing the same ones over and over again, they also don't care to fix it... So you're not going to fix them easily.

You can, but it's a slog. Back when I ran a WoW guild a decade ago we got one as a second tank when he was my only option, and it took me a month to get him to 'OK' and another month or two after that and he was great. But that was only because there was no LFG tool back then, and no where for him to escape to, so the fool had to stick it out because his server reputation was on the line. And once he got past 'thick headedness' he turned out to be a great person. These days in almost every MMO - there are too many 'tools of convenience' for you to be able to 'tie a player down' and make them get good. They have to want it first, and then recognize it... which is where I will be once I decide to return to my 50s. Knowing I'm bad but also actively looking for how to fix it.
