Why is there almost nobody using Bastian?

Bastian's anti-stealing is annoying, even if you don't pickpocket or steal, there's still the thieves guild treasure boxes laying around and you have to unsummon him before opening one or he loses it. Strangely he has no problem with me intimidating random merchants and taking their stuff, he even tells me "good haul" for extorting that merchant.

    Bastian is a hypocrite /j

Not so sure about this. I see a lot of Bastian around, but maybe those red hair catch attention more than the more usual dunmer features.

Aside, I'd like Mirri a little better, I don't fish nor assassinate, so we'd go fairly well along, had I any companion /), also, her quest is more fun, IMO.

When I tried companions, I noticed that the more significant influence on rapport was the mages quest for Bastian and the fighter's for Mirri. This is unbalanced: going through three dolmens takes a lot of time (travel, wait, etc), while a single public is done in no time once you know them.

Mirri's passive seems a lot more practical than Bastian's.
Agree, he also don't like stealing and its smart to look for new blueprints in new zone.

Seen a mix of both around.

I am leveling them both up, just finished maxing Mirri's guild skills now working on Bastian's.

After that I will level them both to 20 max out the skill lines I want.

Then most likely do the mages guild daily once a day to level Bastian's and the fighters guild daily once a day to level Mirri's rapport on my main, once I do there quests unlock the passives I will probably only use Mirri from that point onwards.

I just don't really like Bastian reminds me a bit of Preston Garvey from Fallout 4, he is trying too hard to be a good guy and it just comes across poorly, when Mirri is talking it feels like a more casual chat, with Bastian it feels like I have a tour guide with me or something, it feels more like he is talking at me than to me.

The occasional accidental theft is an issue for Bastian.

I should be more careful about preventing tha via the settings.

@FrancisCrawford , if you're on PC you can turn to the super handy "No Accidental Stealing" addon to solve that. It can set it to where unless you're Hidden you have to double-tap-tap the Steal command before actually taking things; even lets you set the delay on how fast your double tap needs to be. It has single handedly completely eradicated those accidental thefts for me. (So in your face whoever put all those damn thieveable items RIGHT on all the writ turn in boxes!) ;P

Might be worth a look! :)

I play Bastion mainly -- the few gear drops have suited an HA tank and he's the better tank. I've done several base game dungeons with him and he's been a better tank than some of the human fake tanks with whom I've run randoms. My alts are all straight-arrow types and Bastion works for them. Don't care what "everyone" else is doing.

Sounds more flexible than the ingame setting options. I'll give it a look!

Pretty much 9 out of 10 companions I see are Mirris. Why?
As someone said before, Bastian is a weenie.

I gave Bastian a healing staff and a mix of heavy and light armor. For now he follows my crafter MagDK around in a support role while farming the new areas in Blackwood. Mirri is good for adventuring when you have to do things that Bastian is less tolerant of, but I haven't gotten to use her much. Both companions are good so far but like many people, I'm hoping in the next round of companions, that there will be better matches for some of my characters "professions" .

I'm using Mirri as a tank. Her warp strike works great on a tank. No watching Bastian "goody-two-shoes" plod across the battlefield. Any enemy I deem problematic with my healer, I heavy attack and Mirri leaves her current foe, flashes across the screen taunts the new target and stuns it and it's buddies with Fear. Brilliant.

I see a lot of both Bastian and Mirri on PCNA, so that hasn't been my impression, OP. But I think part of it might be the same reason why a lot of players play with female characters: they like to look at them, so maybe people prefer to look at Mirri more than Bastian. And there is a big number of ''boob-window'' costumes being worn that attests to that, it was kinda ridiculus to see them everywhere during launch. Also, personality-wise, I think she's a bit more fun than Bastian in her dialogues and voice acting, though imo, in terms of utility, Bastian has the edge.

Bastian is a bit dull, but having travelled with Mirri for a while on my main, her needy comments ("I like to think I'm agreeable!) are starting to get on my nerves a bit. She reminds me of a popular modded Skyrim companion who constantly badgered the player for attention and affirmation (though not nearly as bad)

I prefer Bastian, so I guess I'm almost nobody. Who knew? I don't have him out all the time, though-- just when I need him. I'm probably going to switch to Mirri sometime to get her fully leveled up, but right now Bastian is more helpful to me as a DD.

With Mirri, the only thing you have to be careful about is to not to pick worms / bugs / butterflies etc.

With Bastian on the other hand... you have to watch for everything. He gets mad even if I make a tea lol... :open_mouth:
