[Suggestion] Allow us to bind Companion interact key to something other than the same interact key

I am liking the new companion system. One issue though is that they often get in the way and you end up interacting with them instead of looting, talking to quest NPCs etc.

If we could bind to a different key, this would sole the problem.

On PC, not sure how it would work on Console.

Totally agree, they are fun but always in the way of boxes/sacks/bags etc., they're fast becoming a pain in the assets!

    Definitely agree!

It would also be nice if the companion menu could be expanded. Let us give our companions a 'follow distance'. Hey companion: Maybe I DO want you close enough to hold my hand. Maybe instead I don't want to accidentally whack you with my weapon because you're too close, so hang back a bit. Maybe you should hang back even farther because you've got a bow and you should be even farther back.

There's a lot of things they could add to a companion menu that would be really helpful, but 'follow distance' is currently my #1.

One more thing that would be a nice addition to the companion menu would be able to dismiss them ( like in the assistant menu ).

Easily Lost Crafter - lvl 50 - Sorcerer Orc ( knows all traits and most styles )
    Easily Lost-W - lvl 50 - Warden Imperial
Forever Lost - lvl 50 Sorcerer

CROWN CRATES: It doesn't affect gameplay, it's not mandatory, it's cosmetic only. If it helps to support the game and ZOS, I support it! Say YES to crown crates.

Also having a distance they will run away setting, for moments when a mob goes after them. Had moments where Mirri would kite them so far the mobs reset.

Might not be ideal for everyone's situation but you can add them to your quickslots. This allows you to call and dismiss on demand.

I was trying to pick up alchemy potions on a bench in a delve and bastion kept talking to me. He was always getting selected, so I had to dismiss him for every single table in that delve. It is not fun to fight with the controls.

My elf's been fully trained and certified by her bear to properly loot and interact with things and the companions are smaller than the bear. o:)

My Miri (so far ...) behaves admirably in combat. Stays in the back, roll away from danger and proves to be a cheerful companion, but she does like to present her beautiful back to my character every time when there is a object to interact or another NPC to talk to.
I think she doesn't like when I divide my attention between her and "other distractions" ...

I do agree with others, companions should try to stay a step or two behind the character when there is nothing going on.

Yeah this obnoxious but easy to fix by making it a separate control from "interact with environment". That could take some time so an addon would be welcome.

add on would be nice for us on pc but a keybind option from zos would help console also

    Yes, please, yes!

I wouldn't want any movement alterations though. In other games this "trying to stay behind the player" leads to companions constantly moving even if you make just a single step and it's totally not immersive. I like how companions here, in ESO, tend to calmly stand in one spot when you are not moving faraway, it feels like they have their own agenda while you manage your small business.

ah, here we go... there's already a post about this.

Before Blackwood, it was just temporary companions, like Lyris that would occasionally get in the way when you had them with you on missions... or crafter NPCs walking by in front of the crafting tables... But with companions, this has taken on extremely annoying dimensions.

So, please ZOS, give us 2 different keybinds for "talking to NPCs" and "interaction with the world" (opening doors, using crafting tables, picking up loot, etc...).
    Lieber EGO-Spieler:

There is an addon called "Personal Assistant" which allows you to keybind your assistants and was just updated to include option to keybind summon/dismiss Companions as well.

It's almost as bad as Skyrim, I got to the point where I refer to Serana as saran wrap because of the way she clings to your butt whenever you're trying to do something.

At least the ESO companions don't have collision and can't block doorways and stairs.

Move the companion interaction to the "F" key having them on the "E" key means they get in the way all the time.

Changing the Key wont help Console players at all.

What they need to do is give us an option in settings to toggle on/off the interact entirely. While they are at it they can also add one for interacting with fishing spots.

ZOS - I do NOT want to talk to my companion or start fishing, I just want to jump, please allow me to do so!

I have Bastian on a quickslot, what makes it easy to call and dismiss, however, if there would be an easy way that they don't spoil the talking to other NPCs and the interacting with objects, that would be real nice. Lazy me would love to spare the moving around to free the NPC/object for interaction. o:)
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

These are all excellent suggestions. This one would like Bastian to stop standing on top of the heavy sack. Ok, thanks for pointing it out to Sammy but how is this one supposed to loot it if you’re literally standing on it?!

But like hip and shoulder armour and other things, suspect we will continue to have a million threads like this because QOL does not appear to be a priority.

I gave Mirri a go in the past week. Seems to be doing well now when I farm nodes. I still want a Breton magblade companion some day.
    That's it, that's all.
