Here's some info on that from Alcast's site: https://alcasthq.com/eso-bastian-companion-guide/#rapports

I believe his info is outdated... there were reports on PTS that collecting runes no longer give approval. There is also nothing in his list about Bastian approving of brewing an alcoholic beverage, which I heard also gives approval.

I read that he DOESN'T like it when you craft an alcoholic beverage. Still unsure what he actually DOES like.

    What kind of alcoholic beverage?

I don't know if it has to be specific, just any alcoholic beverage.

Like is there a recipe to craft or something? I am just confused what counts

If it's any alcoholic beverage, then any drink recipe of that type under provisioning should do the trick.

I don't know for sure that it affects his like/dislike bar (I have the notifications turned off) but going by his dialogue he's unhappy with me smashing beetles and bugs in Skyreach. He told me to stop, and said I was cruel and wasteful; sounds like fairly strong disapproval to me!

Which is stupid, considering that we're regularly plundering decent people's final resting places, murdering living people who happen to be hostile to us instead of turning them into the authorities or whatever, and mass-slaughtering cute and fluffy animals for meat and fur... but OH NO! don't squish the beetles for those alchemy reagents! They had so much to live for!

Oh, and I know for sure that he DOES like when you loot a Psijic Portal.

It was the first "Liked" action I happened to stumble into after getting him, so the tutorial tip window thing popped up telling me I did something my Companion liked. Different Companions have different likes and dislikes, and over time you'll blah blah blah blah blah blah. (I definitely didn't read the pop-up very thoroughly, but it was clear in telling me I did something that made him happy.)

Bastion and Mirri both give approval for reading books.

Took Bastion to do the Fighters’ Guild daily to give him the skill line, and he seems to like the quest. Haven’t tested with Miri yet.

Good grief. Sounds like the same stuff I had to figure out in Dragon Age 2 with companions friendship or rivalry checks. I hope they have a similar system with these companions, where when you max out their approval/friendship, you can't affect how they feel about you any longer, meaning they never disapprove of anything you do after that point.

How are they rare? There are addons that clearly point out their location. I remember on a previous character, I had no problem completing them all fairly quickly.

You are thinking of Psijic time rifts that you need to close to progress the Psijic skill line. What he approves of is you looting the small Psijic nodes you can loot for items. Those spawn occasionally at enchanting node locations and are pretty rare.
PC NA, CP2200+. Character creation is the true endgame.

To be clear, I'm talking about the things you can harvest that take the place of Runestone nodes -- not the rifts or whatever that you have to plug for leveling the Psijic skill line. (Though those might count too, for all I know; I finished that years ago, so didn't even think to test that!)

You have to have a point put into that first Passive skill in the Psijic line to even see them, and they're just glowing light things randomly spread out in the world. Unless I'm mistaken, they're called Psijic Portals. Not the fissures in spacetime that the yappy crystal skull helps you find.

So far from my experience books, psijic portal and dolmens he liked.

Edit: he also likes Scying, enemies that come out of oblivion portals and When I killed bandits in Reaper's March

He told me harvesting the runestone would come in handy, he also commented about after we were done going to the inn for a ale. So I am not sure why he is objecting to someone making a a alcohol beverage. Consider him lawful good character and act accordingly. Don't have him out when you are out thieving and murdering.

As far as I know, he gives APPROVAL for making an alcoholic beverage, not a disapproval.
