Does not seem to be the case. Have you seen something from Zenimax or Microsoft indicating it might?

Yeah, I just read an article where they said they are closing down some forums and going to Discord servers:

    https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesdas-official-forums-will-be-closed-for-good-next-week/

But at the end of the article they said: Forums dedicated to the Elder Scrolls Online MMO will not be affected by the closure: They're operated separately and will continue to work as they always have.

Thanks! I saw a link for eso's discord in one of my discords and wondered what this was all about. Good to know this forum will stick around, for now at least.

I wonder if there's a typo in that article? It says
In place of the forums, Bethesda is making the move to Discord, and will have servers dedicated to each of its big game series:

    https://discord.gg/Arkane
    https://discord.gg/Bethesda
    http://discord.gg/BethesdaStudios
    http://discord.gg/DOOM
    http://discord.gg/ElderScrollsOnline
    https://discord.gg/Quake

Note that it says "ElderScrollsOnline," not "ElderScrolls." Maybe the single-player Elder Scrolls games will be covered under "Bethesda" or "BethesdaStudios," but I would have thought there'd be a separate Discord server for the Elder Scrolls series as a whole, since it's one of their "big game series"-- especially since the article then goes on to say that
Forums dedicated to the Elder Scrolls Online MMO will not be affected by the closure: They're operated separately and will continue to work as they always have.

I mean, sure, they could still have a Discord server for ESO-- and the link does work as given-- but it's kind of weird that there's no server dedicated to the series as a whole.

if so its a stupid move

separate discussion on discord is impossible, its just string of text, how many channel you want to make for each separate issue ?

and also...its not googleable !, what if theres fix for some issues that player experience and theres workaround/simple fix for it ? , forum you can just simply google it and found the thread on it
on discrod, you need to join in, search the issue on the search text box, and lucky if you find it right away, if not you need to scavange through thousands of message, such a stupid decision

That's the messages I saw when browsing https://discord.gg/Eb8c2h5

In what way is that channel related to ESO?

The graphical layout is the same terrible chat-type as the rest of Discord text. This is a huge step backwards, again IMHO.

    From pcgamer

Bethesda's community teams will also continue to have a presence on Reddit, and support requests can be made through Bethesda's help portal. Forums dedicated to the Elder Scrolls Online MMO will not be affected by the closure: They're operated separately and will continue to work as they always have.

I like Discord and use it regularly, both for text and voice chat, but I agree that it's not a substitute for forums.

Discord channels are chat rooms, you can only really have 1 conversation running in each because all the messages are in line. If you're in the dungeon channel discussing the pros and cons of the group finder and someone comes in to ask about farming a specific set either they take over and shut down your conversation, they're ignored and your conversation continues or both get mixed together and everyone reading has to try to guess which conversation each message is part of. There is no way to separate the two without an admin creating a new channel.

Personally I think Discord works best for relatively small groups (about 150 people maximum) and ad-hoc conversations where if you're not there at the time you're not likely to care what was said or want to carry on that conversation. It's a good option to have alongside forums but it's not the same and they can't be used in the same way.

In the German part of the forums, Kai (German community manager) addressed a few points.

    - The official bethesda.net forums were never as big or important to their resp. games as the ESO forum is.
(Personally, I disagree for the original forums. For the current ones, that is certainly true. See below.)
    - They have always refused to merge the ESO forums with the bethesda.net forums, wanting to stay separate, and want to keep the ESO forums alive.
    - It's a BGS (Bethesda Game Studios) decision who apparently think that Discord is a better platform than classic forums.
    (Reminder: ZOS is not BGS.)
    - And generally, the information in the announcement was repeated - the ESO forums will stay online.

In my personal opinion, the bethesda.net forums were simply terribad, as forum software. Bethesda had decent forums way back when (most of Morrowind modding happened there, for instance, they had very active discussions around the games and whatever else, or even forum roleplays with developer involvement) but decided to shut them down in mid-2017 (really suddenly) and replace them with their current and much, much worse incarnation of the forums (and due to how unexpected the move came, it had many initial problems).
So they never gained steam, and lingered for a few years until they apparently decided to pull the plug.

Again, ESO's forums are not affected.

Glad to hear it's sticking around here. I don't use discord - it's nearly impossible with my high satellite ping, not to mention that it's not anything I really think is good for a support or discussion atmosphere.

I haven't been near a BGS forum since they migrated the Skyrim one to the absolutely awful replacement. Before that happened, I copied a lot of troubleshooting info from posts in the old forum into files so the "good stuff" didn't get lost.

Probably the point. It's clear they don't want to talk to us, have no interest in our input and resentful of criticism, valid or otherwise. This way they have a 'valid' excuse in sidelining their paying customers.

Edit: I see that they're stuck with us. good.

Yup, the resources keeping these forums running could be put to better use. MS should consider closing these forums.

I think "bethesda" was the big give-away there....if it say "Zenimax" was shutting down their forums, then I'd definitely think it was ESO.

Yeah, I was active back on the original "official forums" back before & when Skyrim came out. Spent lots of time there, had plenty of great discussions. Got coached through building my first gaming PC by the gurus on the Community forum. Those were an excellent community & set of forums.

Then they nuked them and made those awful 'new' ones. Of course they weren't used as much, they were lousy.

And now they're digging even deeper and switching to Discord. Now, Discord is a great tool - it's helped my tabletop gaming group keep doing stuff this past year. But it's not any kind of replacement for a forum.
(like... when someone has a bug, and searches on Google to see if anyone has a solution, it's not like a three-months-ago Discord conversation can pop up with the answer, like an old Forum post could.)
