Why arent staffs centered on characters' backs?

Okay now that we have clarified what the OP was referring to, we can actually discuss the topic.

I would agree that the way staves are placed on our backs seem very unnatural and uncomfortable, and frankly they give me motion sickness when my character dashes.

The explanation I have come up with is that over time the new motifs depict longer and longer staves because they look more impressive than the short ones in the base game (I always default to my staple High Elf 1!). This elongation always happens on the top side of the staff, and the bottom stays intact. This is because it still needs to touch the ground at the same spot (resto staff) or not clash with it when you crouch. If staves were elongated at the bottom, they would scratch against the floor and/or our hands would need to hold them at a different angle, which would need the character model positions to change. Of course this won't happen because every weapon is held in the same way.

This is also obvious when you hold a thin staff or weapon, your hands don't really touch it, in order to be able to hold thicker weapons with the same model. Even our hand behind the shield is trying to hold an off-weapon.

I would agree that the main issue with weapons is how they float on our backs, no straps and sometimes not even making contact with the back. Seems very unnatural.
