How do you avoid an in-game shopping spree? :/

I think I went on a shopping spree last night, I crafted and golded out new armor that I don't really need (purple for jewelry), I bought some armor for my collections which I ended up not using, I reconstructed my monster set with better traits, I transmuted some parts... And I'm pretty sure this wasn't even necessary, as I'll change sets in a couple weeks or so (or they'll be nerfed). Last week I spent crowns too to buy some styles I thought I'd use, but I ended up using a base-game costume instead (lol)

How do you guys keep yourselves from going on a shopping spree? big oof :(

Drop ESO+ & let the inventory of every character, bank & box fill up.... I cannot buy anything as there is no room to store it.

My shopping sprees normally involve motifs. I've spent thousands of gold on them. Anything to finish out that grand master acheive. Motifs are like my kryptonite xD I've even caught myself selling whatever I've got to make a quick gold stash to buy one little motif.

Only true way of stopping myself is going broke. Stops me every time.

I have a bad habit of getting over excited about new set ups and holding everything out before I've seen if they're actually any good.

Anyways as odd as it sounds the less I play the more gold i end up with. Right now I'm on a break from the game but I still get on for 45 mins a day, do my crafting writs and refill the guild store. Since I'm not putting anymore time then that I'm still aking gold but I'm not spending anything.

I find that the key is to ask myself a series of questions.

If I'm buying stuff for a new build: "Is ZOS going to nerf any of this in the next six months?" If so, is it worth it?

If I'm buying supplies or cosmetics like motifs: "Is any of this going to be cheaper in the next six months to a year? Can I wait?

For stuff like cosmetics, furnishings, and materials the key is to buy as cheaply as you can. That means paying attention to the market. Be patient. You don't want to be buying furnishings right after ZOS releases a giant new fancy house as an event reward. Save your gold for when items are cheap, then buy what you need for the future.

For gear, it's really a matter of whether you are willing to invest in something that might get nerfed.

Leave my gold in the bank. Sounds simple but it works. If I see something in the guild store I want I have to get out of the trader menu, summon my banker, withdraw the gold, put my banker away (not going to be rude and just ignore him while he stands there) and then open the guild trader menu back up. Turns out a lot of stuff I think I want I don't want bad enough to do all that.
I am trying to finish certain styles and when I decide I want to shop for motifs I will withdraw some gold then go looking. When the gold I have on the character is gone I quit shopping. Silly thing is I don't need to be frugal. I have the materials to craft anything I want and a surplus of gold. Comes from being a hoarder.

I did go crazy and bought every house that can be purchased with gold even though I have only decorated three so the plan doesn't always work.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

I don't stop myself. I earn that gold, I know how long it took to make it, if I'm not saving for something specific and the completionist in me wants something, I get it.

I do that, too, but not so I won't spend it. It's just easier to keep track of how much I have that way.

    I'm not very impulsive.

I used to go on huge spending sprees and buy tons of stuff from the crown store with gold. I have not been able to afford to do that anymore for at least six months now, probably longer. It takes care of itself after a while. :/

Like someone said before... In ESO, there are little things that I find attractive enough to invest my gold into them. So, all in all, gold is piling up at bank and I hardly use it. However, it's not so negative, because at time I need something that is somewhat expensive on TT, I have the gold to afford it and that's very comfortable. So, a typical case of bad and good same time! :D

You don't. You won't even realize until you're down 400,000g, but give it some time and you'll do it again. I'd probably have another million in the bank right now if it weren't for several instances I dipped into the bank for style pages or gold mats.

Well you can establish some sum in gold / crowns that you can't go lower on. Like I have it set to 5-6 mil now so I'm kinda free to spent other if I need. Then have some plans going of how would you replenish your money stack in near future so can see if you're ok with buying more.

I generally going spending when actually need something right now or it's cheapest u can get at the moment. Like with motif, if it's at it's lowest or when I actually need some particular piece for an outfit I was planning, if it's gear then I'm going for one that have no reason to be nerfed right away and will serve me at least half a year or a patch at the very least like I did with no proc tests.

Either way try to think ahead and see for yourself how money spent versus entertainment works for you.

The [common] knowledge that everything in the construct is not governed by [more or less] immutable laws like our reality but designed specifically and purposefully to promote unhealthy/compulsive behaviours by messing up with our brain's reward system.

That sucks the joy out of any potential 'shopping spree' before it even starts.

I also go on shopping sprees in-game, it's a substitute for RL  Best way for me is to have a goal to save gold for: like a house, or furnishings, etc., since I'm a housing fan.

I don't think I've ever been tempted to do anything like that. I've crafted a full set of gold/purple equipment for a character and put together a new outfit for them all in one go, but that's because they needed it and I took the time to work out exactly what I wanted first.

I've also had times when I spent all my spare gold on motifs, but I made sure to get ones I needed for master writs or ones which would help me complete motifs for Master Crafter.

I don't see any appeal in buying a bunch of stuff I'm never going to use (especially since I find this games trading system extremely tedious to use as a buyer) so I've never had to try to stop myself doing it.

As I spend my gold on motifs and furnishing plans I have no problem spending it when I find something I have yet to learn at a reasonable price. Its only pretend money after all, not like it actually costs me anything by spending it. You can always make more gold.

I sit on around 400 gold mats for each craft not including jewelry, all 18 of my characters are gold out in every slot just to get rid of them. Their gear aren't even that good.
