Not to be a negative Nancy but i feel as if ESO is missing key features making it feel bareboned.

This is not a thread to direct or instigate hate but somewhere people can covesrse and share opposing ideas and opinions with polite discourse.

I would like to start off by saying i have 2k+ hours on ESO, i love the game or at least lately I try my best to sometimes. I love the ES lore and I love the players in the game. An amazing and insightful community.
However as of late, certain lacking of features or out-dated material just makes the game feel more bare-boned than it actually is, sometimes it feels like I'm almost playing a beta. Now this would not be an insightful post without me taking my OWN faults into accounts, perhaps I'm a little burnt out and need a refresher or perhaps my perspective is inaccurate due to the expectations other games in these current times have set. Anyways, these are my issues.

Outfit control - The lack of options when it comes to outfits sometimes Irks me, as someone who constantly spams the outfits stations due to an unhealthy money spending addiction on changing costumes, I tend to use that function a lot. I have 0 idea why you still can't hide some options, it seems like a basic option to put in despite plenty of the player base asking for it. Now i understand, you can't simplify just ask for something to be implemented. (I study game design at University) but the option is there for helmets, it can very simply be reverse engineered to work for other clothing options. Or even more simpler, add a style that simply removes shoulders if the method is too much work.

Lack of mini-games - This may seem like a peculiar option to choose but I firmly believe from my own experience in playing games and having to study audiences, likes and dislikes within the gaming industry it's been well-founded that longevity within MMO games usually need more than just quests, dungeons and pvp. The game has been out for 7 years and whilst I sympathise with the Devs having to sort a lot of in-game issues out regarding performance it's still quite unacceptable that after 7 years we still haven't really broken the mould with actual exciting gameplay. For example, let me talk about Antiquities, when it first was announces and shown off, for the most part everyone was excited, even me. But after playing it for a few week the excitement died bc apart from the skill-line XP, there was no actual progression system. And in an MMO a progression system should be something you can continue to progress in and show off. I accept that the really cool Ebon wolf mount was totally worth it but even then after a while and having 100 other mounts the victory or the hype around the entire system dies down. But to be fair they are continually adding content to antiquities so that is a bonus. So what do i mean by mini-games? I mean something that has a competitive element but not outright PVP. I'm talking about in-game card battles in taverns (Look up ES:Legends), Horse racing and Pet battling. Something that you can do to get away from the insanely competitive seen of completion and PVP.

Reward system - While I'm excited for blackwood, oblivions portals seem like sometimes that will drop off after a few weeks, and despite it being how it's handled I've heard a lot of people complaining about the loot it provides, and generally loot drops within the game. Overland isn't really impactful in most cases as the content is so easy, fights are very similar with somewhat outdated anims and the loot doesn't really feel rewarding to earn.

Werewolves/Vampires - They're so ugly.. I for one completely accept beauty is in the eye of the beholder but you cannot tell me in good conscience that werewolf isn't that ugliest thing roaming Tamriel. While I understand a hairy wolf man/woman shouldn't make your groin tingle with tension but instead made to basically *** yourself. We had a WHOLE CHAPTER revolving around vampires + werewolves and no one thought to change how old and outdated they look? Despite the community highlighting the issue. Or at least give us some autonomy on how they look. Fur texture/colour and scars. This is an MMO where expression is meant to be highkey especially within the ES universe.

Animations - While the game itself is beautiful but the animations make the combat feel worse that it actually is, especially effects that completely change how your characters looks. For example, lightning form understandably makes someone into living lightning, but why does Dragon-blood make you into a beating heart...they're 10,001 ways you can convey that skill being in use. Even then let us have the OPTION to slide the amount of visual effects we can see, along with some of the outdated animations, there's also the problem of sometimes there being too many skill being portrayed to the point where i have no idea what skills I'm using sometimes so i had to download addons to help.

Honourable-mentions - Lack of minimap, lack of weapon options, mount progression character bound, sometimes the UI tends to lack, lack of casual content for people wanting to spend time in Tamriel without just farming/pvping or questing and sometimes valuable incentive to actually complete tasks ingame.

Please share any ideas you have.

If they ever implement a "hide" option for every gear piece, I want a crown for every time I come across a player in their undies.

I enjoy the scrying and excavating mini-games, particularly the excavating one, but I am otherwise unimpressed with mini-games I've come across in other games.

On PC, there is a mini-map addon. I personally enjoy playing without a mini-map and just look at the map if orienteering isn't working.

SWG used to have an in-game TCG you could play, or just collect, or go for rare items, which was a nice way of letting players do something that wasn't related to combat, crafting or farming. EQ2 added their LoN, and I believe WoW tried to do something similar with their TCG, but had no online counterpart. My first step towards funding a game outside of their monthly sub was buying a rare loot card in SWG for $120 just to get a speeder. The good ole days!

They could do it how WoW did... make it so you can hide every piece of armor except your pants. In fact there are a few things they could do to hide armor without having a hide armor option.

They could add a clothing section to the outfit station where you could choose to display actual shirts and pants and shoes and dresses instead of armor.

And they could create invisible armor pieces you could earn by doing a quest or achievement for all the slots except pants.

This would really open up customization and make a lot of players happy.

    ...mini-games? Eh. :|

A lot of the other things (like "vampires are ugly" "animations are bad" "loot drops could be better", etc) seem more like opinions & preferences, not "missing key features". I expected to see a list of gameplay mechanics & systems, but the only ones are mini-games & "better outfit system".

(and thinking about it, every time they add something mini-game-like, people moan about it. Take Scrying for example. "cheap mobile game garbage" as I recall.)

How is that different from the Nord bath towel or Timbercrow outfits?

I think most people who want this option want barefoot Boomers, gloveless long sleeves and to hide those huge floating shoulders and buckles. The ones who want to be naked already found ways to do it.

On the topic of mini games, I want to repeat a suggestion I’ve made a few times. I’d love to see ES: Legends embedded in ESO as a mini game.

The only part I really have an opinion on is werewolves and vampires.

While I would like some customization options for the werewolf form the last thing I want is for them to look any less monstrous. A werewolf or a vampire are monsters, they might be monsters who keep a leash on their more monstrous side but monsters all the same, they shouldn't "look good". It's the price they pay for their powers, to become a monster and look the part.

Remember when we didn't have an outfit system and people would just complain about how they wish their vet toons could have anything other than red weapons? Now we have an outfit system and twice as many motifs to choose from, plus more costumes and skins and polymorphs than ever, and people say the game feels "bareboned." LOL. I honestly do not know what would satisfy some people, I swear...

I really don't care that much, I just think it's what's going to happen.

But they really should add the "stealable" clothes in the game to the outfit system. I would love to be able to wear those over my gear.

I think the most frustrating is the amount of bugs and problems the game has, while people also ask for suggestions and barely get them.

For example people wanted more mounts earnable in-game. They added 1 for sunspire trial and 1 is coming for Blackwood.

Then there is the crown store getting new items and crown crates. This makes the players feel like any problems relating to crown crates and the cosmetic shop are more important than the core-gameplay.

Literally hundreds of costumes, motifs, styles, skins, and personalities available, they're actually so many I wish they'd stop because my wallet can't take this. You can hide helmets, choose minimal pauldrons/shoes/gloves or literally run around naked if you don't want your character to wear clothes...

Are you asking for actual gambling inside a video-game? Literally every game is removing gambling features due to legal reasons. Ask for a horse race in zone chat or have a duel with pet classes. This isn't Pokemon.

Unclear criticism, but generally everyone is complaining about how much inflation in rewards there has been recently. People are mass destroying rewards.

Vampires just had a revamp ( ;) ), ww models and textures are indeed outdated and ugly, hopefully they will be updated eventually.

ESO combat style is fast-paced so spells must be cast fast, if you want something slower try literally any other video game with global cooldowns, every spell takes a nice 2-3 sec to cast so you can enjoy animations (and get bored to death). If you can't tell what spells you're using maybe you're mashing the keyboard. There's also an option to turn off many visuals from ally skills. I'm confused by the fact that you want to turn off visuals but also want clear indication of what skills you just used, isn't that what animations are there for? Granted, some are outdated.

Lack of minimap is a conscious dev decision to encourage exploration, you can use compass or addon
Many melee weapons, lack of magicka weapon variety I agree
Just don't use too many alts re mounts
There's literally thousands of daily quests, endeavours are coming and require zero questing, if you're bored with pvp and farming just don't do them, take a walk around the beautiful world and fish or listen to the music.

Frankly it just sounds like after spending 2k hours on the game you got bored and need a slight change, ofc the drawbacks seem more obvious the more you know something, but what I'm saying is they're not that bad. Playing another mmo might help revitalise your interest in the game :)

Pretty sure he's talking about in-game "card games". Like, your character can play a game with an NPC/PC in a tavern, for gold. Not IRL "gambling".

(Things like Triple Triad in Final Fantasy 8, Blitzball in FF10, WoW's had animal races/pet battles/fishing contests, the casinos in Dragon Quest or Fallout:New Vegas, Gwent in Witcher 3, etc.)

Not sure how much I care about stuff like that, but I'm kind of surprised at your thoughts going to "what, gambling?!?!" No one's talking about playing in-game poker with NPCs in RDR2 when they're complaining about lockboxes and 'gambling'.

While i understand where you come from, transmogs have been in every MMO since inception. Saying "We didn't have a transmog system then got one later after player continually asked" statment feels like a cop out.
And It's literally the easiest thing to enable, an option to hide other gear pieces. Out of all the other points I'm kind perplexed thats the one you had issue with haha.

Remember they said will add a horse racing in the game?

Do you remember when ESO launched mounts were different ( in stats) and not only skins?

Do you remember they said will add gardening in ESO?

    Do you remember Spell Crafting?

Do you remember that ZOS said will finish Justice System?

Every new update they nerf our progression. We really need to be more motivated to play the game . Im an ESO fan..but every update bring new nerfs, and new performance disimprovements .

I understand Elder Fashion Online ...but we must have more better rewards, like earnable mounts ( after you complete a chain of quests as example), "earnable crowns" ..look at GW2 .

We need a token system also..to make possible to buy the most hard to obtain gear...for everyone.

There are many people ( maybe most of the people) who don't do DLC dungeons or Trials because they don't have time to join progression guilds or groups to stay days or weeks to learn a vet trial .Im not taking about vanilla ones..

So this token system will help the players to acquire the hardest to obtain gear .

Example: Run 30 Normal Sunspire to get 5 tokens . With 5 tokens you can buy a piece of perfected armor piece.

With 10 tokens you can buy a piece of perfected weapon.

Also , besides horizontal progression we need a vertical one too.

Starting Update 29 CP 2.0 was a nice addition even they nerfed us by around 8%.

But Update 30 bring another nerfs to CP ..making it pointless. CP 2.0 as concept is nice ..but not as it is in PTS right now.

Also micromanagement of the Green Tree is annoying.

Another worse addition to the Update 30 is companions . They are hilarious .they do not help the player...

They could be fun ..but ZOS must change them fundamentally .

Also we need the group capacity to return to 24 in Cyrodiil and in PVE also.

    Cheers.

No, no and thrice no. We do not need a token system allowing players to complete a trial on normal and get perfected gear. Perfected gear is the reward for completing it on vet. You want the rewards? Complete the relevant content. End of discussion.

    Lets see
Outfit control - Idk what is the issue here. You can make outfits that are pretty customizable. It comes at a price, but I guess fashion should be pricey. Only issue beside price I can see is lack of hide tabbard option. Would be cool if we could use tabbard patterns on our shields as well, at least round/kite ones.

Lack of mini games - I would love for no more of these to be introduced ever in ESO. Antiquarian related mini games made me want to uninstall. There used to be addon that adds option to play chess with other players with same addon though.
    https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info2082-Chessmultiplayer.html

Reward system - well, daily rewards used to be better, ngl. And endaevor system whill hopefully make it easier for people that do not want to spend big irl cash on ESO to be able to get some crown store stuff. From other game drops, I hope at some point we get a token system where we would be able to get an item for a cost of several other items from that set or something similar.

WW/Vampires - yes, they are ugly. There are some skins that can help with this. One of them was making your character look like its freezing but still better than what regular high stage vampire would look. I hope we get more skins in the future with, lets say, plain look.

Animations - Only issue I have with these is I cant animation cancel them as I could before. Made game slower and clunkier. Lot of people I played with left the game cause of these changes.

Honorable mentions - all you mention can be bypassed on PC via addons. Lack of weapon options is what lot of players dislike though. ESO could use more weapons, such are spears as medium ranged option for stamina users and scepters or summonable magicka bound weaponry for magicka users.

On PC, there is a mini-map addon. I personally enjoy playing without a mini-map and just look at the map if orienteering isn't working.

Everyone would be in their underwear for a week, then everyone would be bored of it and it would go back to those of us tough enough to do undaunted pledges in underwear for real. The option btw does or did exist but isn't enabled - we know this as it's been seen in old developer video/images.

Mini-map is a point of religion I fear: Elder Scrolls franchise games do not have a mini-map therefore ESO does not have a mini-map (therefore every elder scrolls game has been modded to add a minimap 8)). It's really just another reason not to play on console.

Mini games are fine providing they are not in the main game flow. The badly implemented tower defence mini-game mess in the Bangkorai questline put me off bothering to do that zone for a very long time.

Something to realize though: whilst ESO is an MMO for most people it's an Elder Scrolls game - a set of story and exploration based content scaled in difficulty so anyone can eventually save the world (again). Everything else is tacked on and to a lot of players completely irrelevant. If you look at it through the lens of progression/grinding MMO games you are missing the main part of the game.

I've got to be honest - maybe it's the same kind of thing where some people notice every silly effects error in movies (or the signal dot when reel changes happened, back before digital projectors) while others don't, but... I really can't tell anything about the animations, compared to other MMOs. I literally don't notice these things. Unless it's something like 3-frame totally jerky non-animation, it's all the same to me.

This is likely also connected to why I've never been bothered about the whole "60fps minimum!" thing. I've been happily playing games in the 30-40fps range for years & years. Framerate varying/stuttering I notice, but the actual framerate? Not that important.

So it's not that I "defend" the game's animations. I literally don't notice a problem. (Actually, I can't even picture in my head, any of the player character animations in this game. I'd have to go turn the game on and look at it. That's how little notice I give to them.)

ESO can be critiqued on a number of issues, but being "bare bones" is not one of them.

I dunno. Deadra are pretty monstrous by nature and many of them look better than Scion; the WW wins the beauty contest versus the vampire scion.

Either way. I feel transforming means you accept being hit by the ugly stick for the interim duration.

I used to collect the non - armor dresses, shirts, and pants that were found in various containers around the world, but one day I just destroyed all of my collection. While I liked them, I did not like that I had to remove my armor to wear them. I'm not really a role player so I don't change into "street clothes" while in a town or my home. Want to wear one of those dresses? Lose the protection of your chest armor. Want to wear those pants? Lose your leg armor and chest armor because you need to wear a shirt with the pants. Also lose your foot armor if you want to wear one of the pairs of shoes or boots. I can't be bothered with that, nor do I have room to carry all those clothing pieces in my inventory, bank, or storage chests. If I remember correctly they had a monetary value of 0 so they weren't even worth selling. Why not drop these into our costumes so we could continue to keep our armor protection? And we couldn't change the colors either. Why even have them in the game?

My biggest issue with the vampire appearance is not that it's ugly but that it's backwards. We were getting a revamp to vampire appearances but ZOS scraped it before it even hit the open PTS. Probably due to the fact people complained about the Pre-PTS looks before even getting a chance to see it for themselves. (I personally loved what I saw)

As for the Blood Scion look.... I feel like it's not vampiric enough. It's more ugly for the sake of ugly instead of being menacing, terrifying, or outright awesome. People run from me in fear not because of the looks, but because of the fact I just full healed, got the equivalent of 1,000 extra spell damage, and am now tearing them apart while healing for all that damage.
