I'll wait. I just started playing in March with base game + Morrowind and I sub. Since I'm kind of a completionist I'm thinking I may have a year before I'm done with content I have access to now.

Already nerfed it. I was excited after being gone for a few months but now...I'm going to try and get my money's worth and decide what to do after that. It's not looking good. My small pvp guild folded this morning because of the future nerfs and I don't really know what the future holds.

I won't be paying for a nerf either

Well, there's been something of a progression in a negative direction.

A couple years ago I reached a limit of disgust with this game's bad monetization and stopped buying crown packs.

Last year I regretted having a subscription and let it expire when it rolled over this year, again, mostly because of disgust with this game's bad monetization that has continued to get worse.

So this year, I said, I may or may not get the chapter. Didn't pre-order for the first time since that's been a thing, in part because I'ms till sick of this game's bad monetization that keeps getting worse and also because ZoS just doesn't have a good track record on their chapter features outside of classes. Wait for PTS and see. Some aspects look interesting in the companions system, but I can give it a pass. Especially because of two other things they're going to be doing. One - changes to combat mechanics that manage to ruffle even my feathers somehow. Two - their new skinner box called "endeavors" that is directly tied to the game's gambling system and I've got near zero faith this'll be designed in a way that isn't exploitative given gambling systems are inherently exploitative especially in a poorly regulated environment. I want no part of it, and there's no opt-out, so... that means a possibility of quitting the game entirely. There are worse things than quitting a game with high addiction risk that is also intensively monetized. I granted ESO sole exception to boycotting games with bad monetization, and it going back on the boycott list is very well deserved at this point, unfortunately.

To anyone who sticks around - monitor your gameplay, check your hours, don't grind the skinner boxes. Play what you enjoy , but play in moderation only. Don't fall into the addiction trap and don't open that door to overspending. GaaS like MMOs are notorious for cultivating these kinds of problems in people's lives. Often you only realize how bad it was in hindsight and its easier said than done to avoid the trap. And there's not anywhere near enough awareness about this problem.

Goblin race wont happen. Never really happened in other TES games and wouldnt make sense anyways and would mostly be a joke. How would you even talk to NP
Unfortunately I pre-ordered it, before I checked it out this past week on the PTS.

Companions die to the most basic of trash mobs and offer little to nothing.

The oblivion gates are actually tiny little bubbles about the size of your player with 2 guards outside of it, that a lvl 3 templar with a lightning staff and training pants can clear on their own.

And then there's the across the board nerfing.. every CP tree pretty much has 500~750 or so left over CP in it that does nothing for you but unlock optional junk you 'might' want to end up slotting at some point for some reason.

Plus the sets have been trashed once again hitting the middle tier players worse than the high tier.

So.. yep not looking forward to Murkmire 2.0 at all.

Here ya go, the bid bad oblivion portal of doom. vvv

Im disapointed too. Why not make it like a normal oblivion portals? I think city of ash dungeon has one. Also I believe they said you can go inside them so it's more than that.

I've already bought the new chapter, but that was before I realised the only really new content would be companions. They hold no real appeal or necessity to me - glorified combat pets you need to roleplay with to level up - and I can't see me doing the quest required to use them on any other toon than my main character who does everything for the achievements points.

You know you can enter those portals, right?

Speaking of PTS, I wanted to see the content before deciding whether I want to buy this chapter or not.

Just finished the main story on the test server.

    Decided not to buy.

Yes.. I entered the portal and cleared the entire thing as a lvl 3 Templar, exited the other end at lvl 5 or 6

After the first announcement, I wasn't as hyped as after the Greymoor announcement, but I still bought Blackwood straight away. Not because of the mount or something like that, but because I would have bought it anyway. I'm a huge fan of TES IV Oblivion and I would appreciate a little nostalgia. ESO is also the only game I play, and I look forward to new areas to explore and new stories, and I'm optimistic that the companions will be improved after the tests and then maybe be useful to go solo into group dungeons (of course, you can do that also alone, but it just takes too long for my taste when your char is not on max).

The PTS version cosmetic things are still incomplete so I assumed that particular one is a placeholder asset.

That said, portals which look more like Oblivion portals (and deposit foes in some fights) IMO are bit video related.

In spite of the unending nerfs coming out of the dev team I was going to buy Blackwood for companions expecting:

    1. companions would be useful in combat
    2. companions would allow my associate and I to do 4 person random normal dungeons without having to put up with other players.

After testing on PTS, and yes it is early and my testing is incomplete, companions can do neither. It's not that they aren't good enough for random normal, (which they aren't), as far as I can tell they simply can't be used there to take a player slot.

So the only thing in the chapter we had any interest in is useless for us.

Unless things change in the above there is nothing in the chapter that would get us to buy it.

I'll wait and see if the companions get a few buffs or not. I want companions, I don't want them to be op or to replace players. But currently they are just a burden that needs to be rezzed again and again. I honestly wouldn't mind if they lost combat functionality completely, at least that way you could drag them around for rp/ lore purposes and not worry about them dying yet again. Best case scenario though, they get some aoe resistances, or get downed instead of killed, or something along these lines.

If not, I might get Blackwood on sale later on.

We only get new zone content twice per year. The other two times we get dungeon content, presumably so that Finn can practice killing off characters in some evil machination of his  . While I appreciate his efforts, I generally play for the zone content. That makes the Chapter and the 4Q zone DLC too much to pass up.
