New Tutorial waste

Did they seriously just waste Balfiera on a tutorial quest? Possibly the most lore-important area on Tamriel, the last hope Breton fans had for a future expansion, and it's a tutorial? What were they thinking with that? Such a waste of potential. And it's not even close to the new zone at all.

I would argue that the tutorial is one of the most important parts of the game. The first impression of a game is very important for keeping players playing beyond the first hour.

Also, just because they are using it as the tutorial doesn't mean they will not use it in the future.

They used Vvardenfell as a Tutorial in Morrowind, but just a part of it.

I wish they would let us travel back to the island, and do multiple of the initial storylines.... i would love to be able to do them as intro's into each zones first quest.

I do hope we are getting a DLC content of this island and tower in the fture......just to have it as the Tutorial would be a total waste indeed.

@Benoftheflies, yeah, I had to go look it up. I've never played Daggerfall, and am not nearly as well-versed in the lore as a lot of players are. At least now I know what that island and that tower that I can see offshore from Glenumbra are called!

Also, can I just point out this:
Elsweyr Tutorial: Changed the position of a Euraxian soldier in Star Haven Adeptorium to make their corpse-searching less suggestive.
Like, lol. What's the point of spending time on this if it's essentially gonna become inaccessible?!

Agree that I was hoping for more for Balfiera... at least a Dungeon DLC like Falkreath or the White-Gold Tower.

But also possibly a zone DLC... they are going to waste a whole quarter of a year on an Oblivion realm (Q4 is just Deadlands... not some actual zone with a portal to the Deadlands... just... Deadlands :expressionless: ), so they could've easily given us a Balfiera zone DLC with a Daedric realm. With the Direnni's penchant for magic, it would have been a good match too (for crying out loud, we got an Ayleid magic realm inside Murkmire's zone DLC).

They added a portal room that allows you to choose your starting tutorial. Based on the patch notes, after the Chapter everyone starts on Balfiera, but then have the option to jump into any of the other portals and start your journey there. So that may be why they went back and fixed the Elsweyr tutorial.

I am also a bit disappointed about this. Hoped to have Balfiera as a dlc zone or dungeon, maybe even part of a zone like Blackreach. Something more.

My thoughts exactly, it's still possible to get a dlc in this island.

I didn't know about Balfiera until I looked it up because of this thread. (I tend to skim through and over a lot of lore.)

Now that I know what it is, I think it makes sense to put the new tutorial there, as where else could they stick a room full of portals that take you to different parts of Tamriel?
Also, there's the idea that your character might have been chosen by the Adamantine Tower to be the hero that Tamriel needs, which gives a nice backstory for why your character is special enough to "survive" being soul shriven, meaning still coherent and purposeful enough to not go bonkers or witless like everyone else who gets soul shriven.

Is it a "waste" of Balfiera? I don't know, but to me it does seem like an awesomely cool place from which to begin. And the High Elf we meet there chooses to stay behind to do research, so that leaves a possible opening for some future quest that could take us back to Balfiera to meet up with her again.

I known that the Legacy of the Dragonborn team are planning it for their next Skyrim mod, and given how long it's taking them it seems like they're not starving for content and ideas.

Okay, but what sort of storyline are you going to come up with to explain a brand new character showing up there, having to be taught basic gameplay mechanics, and then leave through one of the portals to go save whatever corner of Tamriel they've chosen to start their adventure in? I mean, you'll be going there anyway at some future point for the Murkmire quest, or for the Battlegrounds. So you want to resuse that existing location for a new tutorial that's supposed to introduce your new character as the individual who's been chosen, or fated, or whatever, to save Tamriel from a variety of threats?

What particular reason is there for the Adamantine Tower to be full of portals? They made that up for the sake of a tutorial, they could make something up for the Nexus.

Hey ZOS it sure would be nice to visit the island. I mean I already have 18 characters and play console so no PTS.

Stay safe and enjoy the journey 😊

They did the Nexus an explorable zone in Murkmire and a battlegrounds, why couldn't they make Balfiera a tutorial and an explorable zone in the future? Plus we don't even step on the Adamantine Tower, that probably means ZOS is saving it for later.

Those portals don't allow you to access the other tutorials. If you choose to go to Elsweyr you appear in the main map, not in the Adeptorium and can't get into it.

But the tutorials are all still in the game and still accessible to some people. If Elseweyr is the most recent expansion they own then they'll still start there, so all those tutorials have to be maintained and kept functional.

I agree; just because they used a small portion of Balfiera as the setting for the new tutorial doesn't mean they can't ever use all or most of Balfiera for something else later. And now that we've met a certain High Elf lady there, who stays behind so she can research and explore, we have the possibility that she could reappear as an important character for some future quest.

the tutorial setting changes, but still barely scratches the surface of teaching new players what to do.
