Will companions know dungeon mechanics?

I would rather be able to take better framerates and stability on my adventures to be honest.

I don't think they should even be usable in dungeons.

Why do that? Honestly just rebrand this TES 6 at that point.

Honestly why do so many people come to play an MMO and then want everything put in that makes it so you don't have to interact. There are literally other Elder Scrolls titles you can play for that experience.

I'm fine with them for soloing overland content and stuff, but things that require a group they shouldn't work.

ESO has always (thankfully) been a MMORPG rather than just a MMO. I don’t get why people get bothered by players wanting to solo. For me I like dungeons and a touch of PvP but 90% of time is soloing - questing and exploring. Where I can I like to solo dungeons and would love if companions made that easier! Having greater choice for dungeons is only a good thing. And anyway it’s pretty clear companions are in no way going to have the DPS or ai to replace players.

Why would I play another elder scrolls game? ESO has many advantages compared to replaying Skyrim for the 100th time - it’s huge, we get to experience the whole of Tamriel.

I was able to duo with my brother all normal dungeons and maelstrom. If I can get a companion who can just not 'stand in stupid' and die all the time, and do minimal DPS 10-20K like my brother, I'll be super happy.

One thing I think they need is more slots on the skill bar, if they only have 1 bar fine but why does it have to only be 5 skills with long cooldowns. Also do they do a light attack before each skill.

Man if they made these as good as Dragon Age system that would be awesome, where you can say if this happens do this, for instance if you are 20% health take potion/do heal skill.

But at a minimum I expect them to be good enough for 2 real people each with 1 companion, to be able to clear some/most vet dungeons. There should be no reason a full optimized DD companion couldn't do 20K DPS and not die. Then 2 people with solo/hybrid like heal/tank or heal/dps or tank/dps should be able to get through everything.

Second easiest would be a heal bot. I don't think they would be able to make a tank companion that could do all the mechanics and interrupting and chaining necessary in any hard content.

Well, whatever it was you duoed with your brother, I don't think it was Maelstrom. Dragonstar Arena, perhaps?

At the moment, Bastian seems to be dying pretty easily. We'll see how he turns out as people start figuring out more ideal builds, but from the Devs talk about companions, the max DPS is more like 10k.

    Oops, yes Dragonstar I meant.

Yeah I heard on the stream they said 5-10K DPS and they won't replace people but that would get boring fast. If 2 people with 2 companions can't at least do some Vet content it will be a failure IMO.

I didn't come here for an MMO. I came here for TES content. I haven't really played any other MMOs beyond a free trial, and I don't find them compelling when there are much for fun single player games I could play instead.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy group content, like dungeons and trials. I'm not interested in soloing them. I'm especially not interested in grinding them repeatedly in a group or solo. But it is meaningless to build your expectations on this being an "MMO." This is this game, not a genre.

Companions die to overworld mobs. They cannot tank bosses, because they are too squishy. They stand in aoes, because they are too stupid. The skill cooldowns are too long (or at least I think that's the issue) so they don't provide meaningful healing. And the dps is just too low, though that I fully expected.

Curious to see if something will be changed, if not they are only worth it for the bits of dialogue here and there.

Edit: They can't do any mechanics whatsoever, much less dungeon mechanics.

Lol no, not a chance. ZOS can barely fix a bug at this point and youre even wondering if they have the skill to code good AI? Not a chance.

From results on the PTS, quickening trait seems to help a lot with the healing speed, at least at overland questing levels.

I doubt it'll be particularly meaningful for experienced players who're used to self-healing themselves through tank+3DD runs, buts its something.
