Question about new tutorial

Does main base game quest line still auto starts after completing new tutorial? If someone who’s on PTS could test this it would be awesome!

It’s the main quest, the one where hooded person appears when traveling to any alliance capitols, auto starting main quest line and forcing new character to progress through whole quest line (of course, if one isn’t OCD then the un-abandoneable quest can simply remain there in the quest log).

I took the portal to Stros M'Kai, which put me on the docks by a boatswain who was willing to take me to Daggerfall. Upon arriving in Daggerfall, the Hooded Figure appeared.

Then I took a quick detour by wayshrine to Leyawiin so I could grab the free Pilgrim's Rest housing. From there I ported to Captain Margaux's House so I could step next door to speak with the Mysterious Benefactor.

Now I'm in the Wailing Prison helping Lyris help the Prophet escape, at which point I'll be dumped onto Stros M'Kai again.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I'm not sure what happens if you skip the tutorial, but from the patch notes, after you finish the new tutorial, the NPC gives you a choice of portals to go through and you pick your start.

The PTS if not up yet, so it will take a while to find out.

When I first heard about choosing where you started, I figured you'd be able to play the tutorial for whatever zone you picked. I'm really sad that all that hype just amounted to a free wayshrine teleport to the starting city...:(

Yea I was also expecting something g different that a simple teleport to starting a quest (which currently can be done by choosing it from collections).

I am curious tho because while currently you can choose any main quest from collections, the base game main quest line stil auto starts when traveling in base game zones which is super annoying. I’d be interested to know whether that one is now turned off and requires manual starting.

Hopefully PTS gets online soon so we can find out

Now that PTS is live, is there a chance someone can check this out? It would only take as little time as it takes to get through new tutorial

After completing the tutorial, you have the option of going to Stros M'kai, Khanarthi's Roost or Bleackrock Isle (along with the DLC locations).

No clue whether the Hooded Figure will show up at those locations.

On this character, I went to Blackwood and found myself outside an Ayleid Ruin just west of the White Stallion Lodge with the character to talk to start the Blackwood MQ a few paces in front of me.

Awesome! If you could test this for me I would appreciate it. With that character, if you go to Dawons watch (stonfalls) or glenumbra or I believe stormhaven, basically any of the 3 base game zones where harborage is located. If they haven’t changed anything, then a hooded figure will pop up in front of you when you start moving from wayshrine, forcing a quest in your journal you can’t abandon. Or if they have changed it, then nothing will happen 🤷‍♂️

You go through the tutorial and at the end you end up in a large room with portals to choose from to start the game being powered by something in the center of the room. The female Altmer who takes you through the tutorial explains it all. OK you can start at one of the older chapters, an alliance city and one other one which I forgot the name of. Anyways there is a portal to Blackwood so being that we are testing Blackwood I went through that portal. Folks there is no possible way to have a portal to go to every location in the game. These portals cover the big ones only and is something the game has needed for a long time. It's a way to start the game from a significant location right at the very beginning instead of being locked into one until you decide to use a Wayshrine to go somewhere else.

Cool. My question wasn’t whether you can go through portals. My questions is AFTER you make the choice, let’s say “you went through Blackwood portal”, if you then travel to base game zones, does the main coldharbor quest force start on you?

As of right now on live, you can skip tutorial and choose your starting point too. But you have to stay outside of base game or the base game main quest will be auto added to your journal. I’m trying to find out whether new tutorial changes that.

The Hooded Figure only appears in 3 places as far as I know. I tested that a long time ago. For the Aldmeri Dominion it is Auridon, for the Ebonheart Pact it is Davon's Watch and for the Daggerfall Covenant it is Glenumbra. Unless those have been changed since I last did that part going anywhere else in the game will not trigger the main quest line. I am going to create another toon when I have time to test this part of the game out but from past experience I went to other Alliance Cities from a Wayshrine at the beginning of a game and she doesn't appear in those. Only the ones I have listed get the main quest going unless things have changed.

I went through to the Ebonheart Pact (Bleakrock) location and it drops you in Bleakrock Isle at the start of A Beginning at Bleakrock. You are in the main building in next room over from Captain Rana. She is not at all surprised that you seemingly appeared out of nowhere and casually asks for your help.

I just made a new character on LIVE and after skipping tutorial I went to wayrest, and hooded figure appeared starting coldharbour quest. So they mush have a changed it at some point.

Thanks for taking your time to test this on PTS. I’d like to know what are your findings, whether it auto starts everywhere base game, just the 3 zones where harborage is in or nowhere. Thanks!

I ran a test just now skipping the Tutorial. When you do that you are immediately in Blackwood. I talked to the Guard who sent me to his commander for the first quest. On the way I noticed a nearby Wayshrine so I went back to that Wayshrine after talking to the commander and traveled to Bleakrock Isle which is part of the Ebonheart Pact as well as my toon. I went all around this Wayshrine on Bleakrock Isle and the Hooded Figure never appeared. The only location in Ebonheart Pact territory that I know of that she appears is Davon's Watch as that is also the location of the fake Benefactor she sends you to. Hm I wonder even though I did not get the Hooded Figure in Bleakrock Isle whether or not she will appear in other Ebonheart Pact territories. It's hard to say and there are so many of them. Trying to test them all would not be an ideal situation. I have one more test I am going to make on a Khajiit toon later. I am going to go through the tutorial but choose an alliance city to enter the game with and see if the Hooded Figure appears.

Also just as FYI I just tested on LIVE, new character, bleak rock isle or stros mkai or khenarthi roost did not start the quest “souls shriven in coldharbor”. But going to stonefalls and taking 5 meters from wayshrine did start it almost immediately. So I guess even currently on LIVE some base game locations don’t trigger it.

I do hope on PTS no locations trigger it. That would be great....I guess the question is how to start it then if that’s the case. From collections?

I feel like zos completely missed the point of what people were asking for when they said they wanted to choose their start. People wanted to be able to choose between the escape quests with Naryu or Zamarak or whoever else, but instead they replaced those entirely with a bunch of one way teleports to zone you could already just teleport to.

I agree. The portals is basically a graphically upgraded view of the dlcs which you currently already have in collections menu. Only difference is, from what I heard, that you can’t go back to those portals after you choose one, which I think is even crappier.

I do hope they haven’t introduced any achievements in relation to this tutorial or location. It would majorly suck for people like me, completionists who try to complete everything on one toon

This. I want to be able to choose my tutorial. That's what we've been asking for, rather than being forced into a new one just because we bought a chapter. This is not a change, this is just a different way of forcing us into a particular start.

Please, ZOS - give us more options, not fewer. I personally like the Firemoth Island tutorial the best of all of them, and I haven't been able to go there since 2018. I just want to be captured by slavers...what a predicament.

    EXACTLY
I was so hyped I could finally play that tutorial I missed, but no... I tried on PTS but then it just spawned on the dock, not even in the iconic ship at the beginning of Morrowind... what a shame what a miss... :disappointed:
At least they could add old tutorials as quests someway, but I wanted it, hoped for so we after portal we would just get into old tutorials (yes, imprisoned twice but hey why not) only cut content would be the few second of actual tutorial teaching sequence but same map, same npc, mobs, story... come on it gives more context to the regional/seasonal adventure then the new lady after all doesn't it?!... but no... forever cut content with unpretentious spawns-in-zone, no way to ever play for veterans/newbies who have missed them... For the record I have never been disappointed by ESO/Zos seriously, until now.. :'(
This and activity based slottable cps go against the core idea of One&Unlimited Tamriel imo...
Cuz they lock/cut/restrict/limit content or give less context...

No, I don't think they missed the point. My take is that they won't want people in those older tutorials, despite what some players have asked for.

I do think that this is much better than just asking what tutorial to start with, as the travel agent there on the island does help make the decision of which door to walk through. This cannot be done before the tutorial.

I ran the test on my Khajiit toon. I created him to be in the Aldmeri Dominion although I have the any race any alliance on my account. I went through the tutorial and I chose Khenarthi's Roost to teleport into. The only thing it did was start the quest line there. No hooded figure. I am going to see if I can find a list of all the locations she shows up at on the internet. I trust the UESP site and if any site will have the information it will be them. I am done with my testing of portals. 3 good tests of different ways into the game. I personally won't be playing the tutorial again. I like the portals and what they do but they get you side tracked on choices etc. and you can use Wayshrines to do the same thing. The portals are just there to make the tutorial interesting otherwise it would have been another boring entry into the game. I am going to turn my focus onto testing out Blackwood now.

According to the UESP site the Hooded Figure only appears in the 3 locations I mentioned but we know that is not the case so it means that over time other locations she shows up have been added. What they are I have no idea. If players want to avoid the main quest start up just don't go to the mainland until you are ready for it.

So even on PTS the hooded figure appears in those three cities and out starts the quest? Well damn that’s super disappointing. So if one is OCD and wants journal empty, every new character they still have to do main quest line, cadwell silver and gold 😑

Or you can ignore the Hooded Figure and then you'll never start the main quest. It's the same as ignoring the NPCs who start the DLC quests.

True, although it seems inconsistent to which zones spawn the hooded figure. UESP lists 3 zones but I had it happen in at least 1 more, wayrest
