Whats the difference between a forum MOD and a forum ADMIN

Hi, this is just for my personal curiosity but i see some zos employers with the moderation status under them ( for example @ZOS_GregoryV @ZOS_ConnorG ) while others have admin status over them ( @ZOS_MattFiror @ZOS_Adrikoth ) whats the difference between those two?

Broadly speaking in general terms, you can think of it as a question of authority and responsibility. Administrators have more authority than moderators. Both have duties they're responsible for, but their responsibilities differ in type and degree. It's like the difference between managers and those who work "under" them in terms of organizational heirarchy.

But the exact job descriptions might vary from organization to organization.

Admins can remove members from a board, change names, things like that. They have the keys to the Database as it were. They can also change how the board operates, add or remove sections etc. They tend to not be involved in the day to day operation of the boards.

Moderators ride herd on the discussions making sure community rules are followed. They can mete out discipline as needed, including in some cases banning a member, which is not quite the same as removing them. Most of the time, banned members posts and threads are kept around becuase people post in the same style. So, returning miscreants can be sussed out.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Forum moderators and administrators, are just for the forums. They have nothing to do with in-game issues. Basically, they are a 3rd party contractor to handle the forums, and only the forums.

I think the mods are real people. I've seen them comment on housing forums saying they enjoyed their work. Seems odd for an AI.

Well, some admins are also ZOS staff, Matt Firor is the President of ZOS while judging by his forum activity Adrikoth is an actual administrator on the forums.

The canned responses of the NameCapitolLetter users is annoying, but basic CS routine. You rarely get a non-canned response from someone who is just there to do a job.

Mods are definitely real people because an AI would be much more objective about what/who they edit.

Just because they have copypasta replies doesn't mean they "must" be bots. Consistant and approved messaging whenever doing a thing is an extremely normal thing that is done by businesses when engaging with a customer base. It's like phone scripts. The names are likely fake though; pseudonyms and scripted responses are often in place to protect staff.

I do not think you all are giving them credit where credit is due. A lower-level CS employee is not "just there to do a job," they are doing their job as permitted and required. They do not have the luxury of making or changing rules on the spot, but are responsible for carrying out the rules as laid out by others.

Are you all saying that you have never been in a lower-level position in a work environment, with managers and administrators over you, where you were required to follow the rules or else be reprimanded-- or worse-- for not following the rules?

In any case, this whole discussion really has nothing to do with ESO, and will probably be closed for being off-topic-- and rightly so.

Yes, I agree. I have been a moderator on a rather active forum for 5 years ("rather active" means it was possible to get 500 new posts in just one topic and delete 100+ posts just from one topic during a day). There were moderators who used copy-pasted disciplinary messages, as it is much faster and more convenient. I used copy-pasted messages too for most people and personalized messages for friends or those who I know long enough.

Admins usually have more tools to work with forum. They don't necessary have DB-admin rights. It is also common to have company employees as admins, if there are no special roles for their field of work, even if they don't work on forum or with users.

    Greetings all,

After review we have closed this thread as it will lead to the discussion of disciplinary actions and conspiracy theories, we have already had to remove several posts for these violations. While we understand this may not have been the intent of the thread, the result is unfortunately the same.
