With thaumaturge changed and no longer having exploiter passive causing 10% dmg to off balanced enemies.

Are tanks still using lightning staff for concussion and minor vulnerability?
Are lightning staves useless in general now?

I know Ice staves are better for survivability and tanking, but I have no issue surviving.

why not use one of each and go magicka based tank?

Everyone has brought up good points. As a DK tank, I don’t really have any issue with survivability even in pugs running yolo/powerful assault.

Only issue is if I don’t get a healer with orbs or shards makes sustain hard as casting vigor every 10 seconds to buff the group can drain stamina.

That being said. There seems to be no benefit to using lightning staff anymore. There is upside, however, for Frost staff as you get shields and block mitigation. I chain adds on back bar. Guess I can use the extra shield.

    /rip lightning staff

Yes, the biggest upside for me is that it allows me to use skills on the back bar much more freely, knowing that my block mitigation will be fine on that bar if needed.

The concussion comes from the enchant, not the blockade itself. If you stuck a shock enchant on a frost staff, it would be similar.
Wrong. Any Shock can proc! WoE sets concussed enemies Off Balance.
If your group has more than one other Lightning Staff is redundant to slot anyway.

Ice staff has good synergies with the Warden Class. So there is at least one case with a definitive NO to your question.
And Wardens ARE the best tanks.

As someone else already noted, the chance to proc from AoE DoTs is very low--more than an order of magnitude lower than the proc chance from an enchant. Yes, it's not zero, but not really something worth considering.

Off-balance doesn't matter much either, since Exploiter no longer exists.

Yes but it adds up with other multipliers too. Destro staff alone has 200 increase chance was it for it

100% destro, 220% charged (are we staff staff?), 60% CP is still only 4.8% each tick, kinda neglectable. If we are on front bar s/b most of the time even with charged it is still 2.7%...

PS: dam u guys sure like linking code... Should I do that too just for the lolz?

Destro staff backbar on a tank, won't provide optimal uptimes on status effects. Read the passives, you have to be holding the staff at the time to gain the extra status chance, so if you're currrently on your sword and board, you will likely not see that status effect happen.

You hear Xynode explaining it all the time! He understands the game mechanics as well as anyone, and creates his builds around those core mechanics.

I knew that discussion would trigger you. 😂

On a different note, I was making exactly that point. Tanks should worry neither about minor Vulnerability nor Concussion.
Leave that to competent healers, please.
Tanks take the Frost Staff. Full. Stop.

I've never had any issues understanding Xynode, and I cannot say I've seen anyone complain that they cannot understand him, either.
I've been following Xynode and his content for a while, and he has enabled me to become a more competent player via understanding of mechanics and such.

I'd ne'er gainsay his information. Only the speed in which he delivers it. That is btw Off Topic.

What isn't, is a criticism of using Youtubers for an authority argument. Their videos are mostly infotainment, not a lecture. And I should know. I have a channel myself, albeit a badly managed and unflashy one.
