New CP system is complex..

First off, I'm not hating, and I'm not crying. I enjoy and love playing ESO, and it's among my favorite games of all time; single player and MMO genres. However, I am just not a fan of the new CP system. I dreaded the new CP system prior, but I said it, and I would always give something new a try before I critique it. I gave this new CP system a try and still trying. To me, it just made ESO more complicated. The previous CP system was fine; it wasn't broken. Now, it just too many options, and it just looks like fluff. The game is already complicated as it is, and now, with this new system, it just became even more complicated.

There is a reason why I didn't go to Yale, Harvard or MiT. Ha ha. It wasn't that I wasn't smart enough (well, surely not smart enough as those nerds; sorry, I mean highly intelligent people that graduated from those Ivy League educations,) I just prefer more simple things and the path of less resistant. I generally live by the rule of "Let's keep things simple, stupid." To me, it seems you have to be at the level of those MiT or Harvard peeps to figure this crazy new CP system out.

Bethesda and ZOS definitely have some smart and talented folks working there. Well, you smarter gamers figure this *beep* out. I'm going back to Super Mario Bros for a while. Ha ha

Take a deep dive into each constellation. Read and allocate as what pertains to your current build. There are a lot of helpful guides to navigate you through 2.0.

I highly suggest the champion point calculator Alcast and Woeler put together on their ESO-Hub site. Give it a go...also you can save your choices for future reference and see where you want to go with it as you progress. Good luck!

They need to add text above the stars. It's a bit tedious to search for a certain star at the moment.

It’s very confusing and needs time to understand it, but then it’ll be fine I guess. The other CP system was more straightforward, but at first confusing as well.

I don’t know yet if I am a fan of the micromanagement, on console it’s... a bit annoying.

Grab the obvious ones first. I’m a heavy magic user so I looked for everything that could pump up my base stats first and built from there.

I think it is a lot less complex myself. Every time I wanted to change prior I had to look up a guide for allocation amounts. Now all I need to do is remember if I’m going dps which stars to fill completely and in which order( cause I don’t have enough cp yet. The blue tree is the only one I sometimes look up now.

Don't mistake something being new for something being difficult. It's actually far simpler despite the awful UI.

Yeah once you investigate, you'll realize it's pretty simple. Green tree = non-combat. Red + Blue tree = Combat related. There rest are all options and choice based on what you want on your build. You just have to play connect the dots like we used to back in grade school.

I think 99% of the perceived complexity is how difficult it is to navigate at a glance. Add in things like the hidden 15 second timer, the slottable stars not being bright enough, and stars with ranks mixed in with stars that require x points for a single advancement.

I'll say I love the new system. Im way more invested in my points now. The old system was a stale, boring grind to 1 of 3 templatw builds. New CP allows me a ton of flexibility to focus on what I want. Anything ever can be better.

Its basically as others have pointed out a readability issue. If more information was given to you at a glance instead of having to mouse over everything, and of course the lines leading to passives being more visible, it wouldn't come off as complex. If anything this new system actually tells you how it works when you read into it. The old system never even made mention of check points for example while this one not only tells you but gives visual aids.

NO matter if it is truly complex or just a *** UI, you can add it to the long list of complexities ESO does a poor job of explaining in game.

    T-Bois (Stam Sorc since 1.4) - AD
An Unsettling Snowball (Templar) - AD
    Bosquecito (Stam Sorc) - DC

i gotta say, I was hyped for new cp changes, but this might be the first update that i actually dont like. I think i prefer the old cp system over this.
I just really dont like the idea of swapping out CP passives during normal gameplay depending on the fight. and there is a 30 sec timer when swapping.

they could have made this so interesting. there are a ton of other mmos with amazing skill trees that arent OP and really let you customize your character. And this is what ESO comes up with after a SECOND try?

come on guys your better than this.

Yeah, it's one of those things that you have to sit down and read each thing so it's more time consuming than anything. It would be a lot quicker if the constellations were zoomed out a bit so you can toggle through your choices quicker.

I agree with the OP. I tried allocating CP on my main today, but I just got disgusted and logged out. I think I need to work on my income taxes instead!

I'm really liking it - to me it makes WAY more sense than CP 1.0 did - most of my alts are set up with whatever can be reached in the green tree (more on my two NA accounts, less on my two EU accounts) since when I'm playing them, I'm always picking flowers, opening chests, urns etc. My mains have all the trees set up and since they're all stamdens, all I had to do was figure out the one with the most CP first then set up what I could on the other three.

The NB 50 I don't play much on my first NA account I'm going to use to just run around looking for chests, doing antiquities (along with everyone else) and hunting furnishing plans. Kind of nice to finally have something to do with her - she was the first character I created here, and it's been kind of disheartening that I've had such a hard time keeping her alive....

I had a chance to take a quick peak during my lunch break and it seems the choices are consequential now. As opposed to theoretically maxing everything out.

I can't wait to delve into it after I log off work for the day. I can see myself playing around with this for about an hour or 2.

My only minor nitpick is that I wish the constellation names retained Elder Scrolls lore, as opposed to having generic titles like "Fitness" and "Craft."

I suggest those who struggle with the on-screen presentation print off one of the various guides to the new system. Then they can read it, highlight the perks they're interested in, and allocate their CPs in-game accordingly. Personally, I find it a lot simpler than the original system.

its actually not that complex. once i allocated cp for all 18 of my character i found myself using the same skills and noticed that it seems more narrow of your choices than before.

green tree is basically useless and used for non combate things.
blue tree has 4 areas; the left side is for healing, right side dps, bottom for tanking, top is hybrid.
red tree is mainly for staying alive and utility and not many different choices you have for you 4 skills to allocate with most people utilizing the same skills.

once you get a good look at it, its not intimidating and actually very narrow in your options of what to do with most of the skills being sitational.

Maybe CP 3.0 will be more rewarding than this tree. Im playing Path of Exiles on the sides and spoiled by their immense passive tree and dream of ESO doing something similar.

I would love a LOT more complexity.

I want to see the very limited skill morph system we have and flat passives for classes replaced with a much more in depth system that allows all classes to be better customised for roles and play styles.

Let me build a proper no pet lightning spec sorc, or go all in on pets, or a spell blade 2h that can use a variant of mages fury as their execution, or shields based off stam / weapon damage.
Why not allow most skills be morphed to a spammable, a dot or an execute?
Why not allow it to toggle between lightning / disease or flame / poison?

they have al these "standards" for how much damage things should do now. this kind of thing should be doable without messing up balance.

We only get 5 skills per bar, give us some proper tools to customise them to fill the play style we want.

Stay far far away from Path of Exile.

PoE doesn't require you to spend 50 useless points on a single node to get where you want to go, and neither does it limit how many active things you can pick.

Every single node in PoE is useful and the game is built around the tree. It's not an afterthought tacked on at the end to waste your time - it's an integral part of the experience.

I just got confused because I did not know where to start, even after looking at Alcast’s guide. It took a while to find a star I could do something with. The UI should place you there when you first open it and not force you to poke around for ten minutes. I mean I think there is only one starting place but there might be more, I don’t know.

Also, I could not figure out why those two stars in the blue constellation were still locked. You had to click on them to bring up yet another constellation. Duh.

It’ll get easier as I get more familiar with it.

This one is getting used to the awkwardly designed new system. But here is the thing, when you revise and upgrade something, it’s meant to be better, an improvement on its predecessor. Instead, much confusion ensues.

And OP, this is definitely not about not going to Ivy League or ‘Oxbridge’ universities. Don’t put yourself down. This is simply a poorly designed new ‘upgrade’.

As mentioned alcast has done a great job in presenting this system.

Also, something you should check out is:

Deltia just put out a well done, fairly short, easy to follow "Champion Point Tips" beginner's guide to CP 2.0.

He breaks done what you're looking at, what areas of each tree focus on and other things that may be confusing to a person first checking out the system. All in a "top five format"

The new system is much simpler than the old one, I don't understand how you can get lost in it if all the paths to the necessary stars are highlighted, all bonuses are now without diminishing returns, which removes a bunch of probabilities for errors, stars work for both mag and stam and they are not needed to respec all the time when you change your play style and when everything is sorted by thematic sections for simplicity.

And no stars performing the same function, they were pretty confused in the old system.

I think you are just accustomed to the old, non-intuitive system and simple things seem difficult to you from the habit.
Let's be extremely precise in our use of terms.
