What keeps you playing ESO?

Nerf updates like this most recent one always make me review my gaming options; personally, this one has felt like a larger slap in the face than most. So, I spent some time considering why I still login. Two years ago, it would have been for the PvE combat. To my surprise, the answer now is the game world, and in particular the artwork. That's me; what keeps you here?

Combat and lore as always, was about to quit this dlc but probably it was cp2.0 that made me stay.

I'm very glad you added the "friends" option. Here is my stance, though. I am here with my friends. I met some of them here and that is an awesome thing. But I'm going to leave this game when something else comes up that is fun because it is not fun to be disconnected in the middle of a fight, or be stuck in combat so you can't mount, or lag out to the point that you cannot keep up with your buddies, or be CC'ed to death while you cannot break free or roll dodge.

To be blunt, I plan on moving me and my friends OUT of this game as soon as possible. So while ZOS thinks of us as individuals, they would do well to realize that a guild made up of close, loyal friends isn't just a GM moving to another game. It's the entire nearly 300 people moving to another game. ;-)

Friends I've made in game, and the social aspect of my guild.

ESO is a very bittersweet relationship for me. I am a huge fan of the TES IP, but gameplay wise, ESO offers me *nothing* that I like about TES games. It's closer to Diablo 3 than it is to any Elder Scrolls game. Outside of the setting and the lore, there's no real connection to me for ESO to TES. And the lore that you do engage in in ESO is so different than the types of lore content in a normal ESO game - IE the setting and bosses of dungeons and trials and such is so different than the types of settings and bosses in TES games, it's hard to remember sometimes that I am playing an Elder Scrolls game.

But there are things I do like about ESO. For being an addition to a genre that I am rapidly losing any sort of interest in (MMO), it does have elements within it that I enjoy and that I like playing. I do like dungeons and trial content (even if I hate the "meta" mindset that comes along with it), and I like finding new motifs and styles to individualize the look of my characters.

At this point to me it seems ZOS views the playerbase as nothing more than a 'piggy bank' to be looted when they feel like they need to pump up profits with new motif, DLC or Chapters while openly discouraging the dialogue that is healthy with the community. They have replaced that with streamers who are financially tied to the game and the decisions ZOS makes (I am sure no one else misses the changes benefiting some of the more popular play-styles of the streaming community) and in return ZOS benefits from free advertising of the 'piggy bank' to boost profits while never really making progress on game bugs or play-ability over the years. Forum moderation has turned into complete blackout of useful criticisms of ZOS in any way being constantly either deleted or forced to change critical posts due to 'bashing' as though that were a thing that was definable and beyond bias of the moderators themselves---who are also incentivized by their positions to NOT have free discussions when they swing to game issues. Without useful communication or avenues to correct course the game itself only holds me till I find a replacement at this point----so I actively look now as many others are.

The game world, lore, artwork and more. TES III was one of my favorite games and I doubt there’s any chance of again having something so weird and wonderfully alien in TES since the single player titles decided to nuke Vvardenfell and have gone more generic medieval-ish fantasy. So here I get to revisit that world and see more of it and I do enjoy much of the PvE and PvP as well! Housing too is an enjoyable creative outlet for me.

No one is going to be happy with everything this patch, but wherever you are in the spectrum, at least it’s across the board, not one particular class or play-style.

Why on Nirn would I even have 5 accounts when there is zero chance Ill level them all to new CP cap.

I've been playing since Beta so I have a lot invested. I pretty-much only play during events and new content since there is nothing that interests me to keep playing in between. I spend most my time these days playing other games while waiting for ES6 to come out.

The World, as in... It's Elder Scrolls.

This update has been a nerf for highly tuned end-game players, I guess, but my gimmicky RP builds have actually been noticeably stronger so far. I'm a lot happier with the game balance this patch than I thought I'd be.

A mix of things really. Yes, the world, I love Tamriel and have since I first played Morrowind all those many years ago. The friends I have made in this game. The fact that it's a sandbox game that allow me to go anywhere I please at any time I please. The stunning graphics. Messing around with my houses. Fashion! (The true endgame)

In all honesty, after having played with the new CP system for a few days I'm overall positive. I enjoy the changes with Blue and Red and I guess I can live with Green, though it annoys me immensely in many ways but particularly the cooldown which is such a badly implemented feature, definitely applied at the last second for whatever reason and without thinking things through. No idea what they thought would happen if they had just left it, but whatever they tried to prevent must have been bad indeed for such a haphazard and badly thought through solution to be put in that late.

I quit a couple of years ago. I come to the forums around DLCs to see if they've gotten rid of cast times. That's what ruined the game for me.

The lack of viable alternatives

Well it certainly is not the stunning balanced Pvp content which is really what people want once they have completed the Pve.The graphics has no real comparison just a pity they seem intent on flogging an unbalanced network by cramming way too many people onto it .You have to remember this generation of game is before its time graphics wise maybe in a few years when network tech catches up it will be playable, until then they can polish it all they want it will never handle vast amounts of people in one region of pvp.They should scale it down before it gets embarrassing.

I am here because of Skyrim, actually. Because of khajiit merchant who describe his motherland. I though " hey, I can see Elsweyr in ESO ad the whole world, lol, plus playing Eldevin gets tiresome (crafting profession grinding) lets try it" now I am addicted, well, congratulations.

What keeps me coming back twice every year or so? New zones, quests, lore.
But what keeps me playing throughout the year? Housing. Just furnishing more and more houses.

And it feels like home.
