Steam "wrapper" and ESO login issue.

So yesterday I had no issues logging on and playing. Went out for a bit and when I returned home and tried to play again I continually got an error while loading up ESO "unable to authenticate Please launch using steam" well wtf that's exactly what I'm trying to do. Tried multiple times on two different pc's with no success. Gave up just before midnight after trying various "fixes" found on Google search with no success.
Forum and Google search shows this issue goes back to 2015.
Support for the Steam version of ESO refers me to Bethesda support.
I am slightly confused as to why there is no support from steam, and no way to login using a bethesda account because the game was purchased through steam. Also, why would I expect bethesda to support the issue if the product was purchased through steam, and the issue seems to have something to do with the "steam wrapper"?
Basically, I'm left with a product I cannot use because neither side accepts responsibility for the issue?

    Another question, please tell me if I'm off base with this but why is it I can purchase things like crowns or ESO plus memberships from either Bethesda's website, or through steam, but I cannot login using anything other than steam? Either purchasing option is happy to take my money. It seems reasonable to expect to be able to access the product from either option as well.

    I purchased ESO with the Summerset upgrade back in 2018 on Steam. ESO is the only game I purchased from Steam and created a steam account solely for this game. I have never had a reason to buy a game twice from different stores.
    Is there any advantage to having two copies of the same game from different retailers?

    I'm happy to report the issue seems to have been resolved. I am able to login to my game.

    I had the same issue a few days ago and tried all of the suggested avenues with turning Steam to Offline mode then back Online again, but nothing was working.

    I finally fixed it by reinstalling ESO through Steam. It took a long time to download, but it worked.
