With regards to the expensive style mats, I typically use my mimic stones since I've managed to acquire a stockpile after the outfit stations were implemented. I figure I'll never use them for anything else, so might as well burn them up in place of expensive/rare style mats.
That being said, I wouldn't waste them on a 5-8 voucher writ (I stopped doing basic purple writs a long time ago, but that's beside the point).
