Why do/ don’t you like/play dungeons and trials

So, why do/don’t you like playing dungeons/trials?

I struggle to get into the PVE dungeon/trial scene because for me there’s a serious lack of incentive. Once I get the gear I need there’s nothing making me want to play the content anymore. Oh, a new dungeon and trial came out? Sweet! Oh, the gear I already have is better for my character then the new gear....alright I won’t bother.

Titles don’t do it for me so that’ll never motivate me to do that content. I wish there was more gear progression were you worked your way up different dungeons earning better and useable gear for your character l.

It is rare - especially when PUGing - but when all 4 group members really get in sync with synergies; and corralling mobs; and working off of each other - it’s pretty magical. And fierce AF burn. Lol.

    S.

Edit: and when trial prog groups really start to gel - so that any mishaps are just corrected in-stride... it’s really slick, fun, high-level coordinated gameplay.

I do them for titles and do the easier trials for score as well.

Eso is the only game that made me care for pve. For a long time i never even did any dungeons. So one day a player was giving advice for my pvp build and he was like "You should get the blood spawn set". I did not even know what monster sets even were so i got online and started reading. I remember i felt really wortless in groups so i tried to do my best to improve my dps and started monster set farming. After a while i really started enjoying it, to the point where i actually started running trials. I completed my first veteran malestorm arena recently, with a lot of hickups buit it felt so good , did not even care about the weapon i got lol. I think the pve content in eso really makes you feel like you have achieved progress with your character.
I have never played anything else except pvp in every single mmo, but now in eso i even run around in my pve gear most of the time , i like the mechanics of dungeons and trials and honestly it helped me understand the game a lot better , i was kinda surprised how little i actually knew about build creation lol. Now i am going for the flawless run on malestorm , that is something i really want to get. I personally enjoy the gear progression , monster and trial sets are really cool in my opinion and you can create some wacky builds with them.

    Drama.

People tend to get really worked up over dps this and healer that and "omg you're not using [insert meta] you suck!"

That tends to sour my desire to do a lot of the more difficult content. But as long as I find myself in a decent non-toxic group then the content can be quite fun.

Because I suck at weaving and don't care to improve, but don't want to bring groups down with my (I assume) bad dps. So I stay out of most group content unless I need an easy, quick run through something non-dlc for something like event tickets.

Three main things make me not enjoy dungeons and trials:
    1. The need for meta sets/lack of build syncing. I've never met anyone in this game who's interested in working on builds outside of the Alcast meta, so quite literally everyone is just running the same gear and the same skills and the same rotation and that's kinda boring.
    2. The mechanics of fights outside of bosses is literally ALWAYS just pull and AoE while running. This is also very boring and makes most of the dungeon/trial feel forgettable.
    3. More for trials specifically, it's nearly impossible for me to find groups to consistently run trials with (Like, more than once a month) because apparently nobody does anything but pledges and crafting dailies anymore.

I've been having fun soloing some of the normal dungeons, but I wouldn't say they're something I'd enjoy doing on a regular basis. As with any other content in the game, doing something too often for too long can become tiresome, so it's usually a good idea to vary your routine from time to time. That's one of the reasons I enjoy the events-- they encourage me to go back and play content that I might not have played in a while.

Hm vdlc is the only challenge that exists in this game for me.
It is highly enjoyable to work at learning and clearing content and improving.
Pushing yourself and striving for the achievements/titles can really be quite enjoyable if you're running with a group of people all on the same page.

I don't do dungeons often because my free time is unpredictable and I like to play slowly. Ideally I'd like to not only do the quest and actually read/listen to all the dialogue but read books and notes found in the dungeon, check containers, go down the dead end passages to see what's there and so on.

I'm not good enough and my characters aren't set up right to solo dungeons, and I don't want to annoy 3 other people by taking ages to get through a dungeon only to have to leave before we get to the final boss because something has come up in real life.

Sometimes I do one with guild mates who are intending to go slow and do the quest, but even then it feels like a compromise to me, I'll skip some stuff so I'm not holding the group up. One day maybe I'll sort one of my characters out so they can solo dungeons and then I'll be able to take my time with it. But even then I won't do them often because once I've done the quest and seen what's around there's no need to keep doing it over and over.

Dungeons and trials are the best part of ESO with a premade group and people you know.

Dungeons and trials are the worst part of ESO with randoms.

So you don't want to do content if it doesn't reward you with better gear?

Then why do you even collect the gear if you're never going to play content just to enjoy it? I mean i do veteran content frequently because i worked hard on my characters and i want to use them. It makes no sense building a character just for the sake of building it.

I'm just curious as it seems being expected to run certain gear seems to be a reason not to run content or contributes to toxicity.
I honestly do not understand this.
Why does working and coordinating as a team reduce your enjoyment?
The only real toxicity I have seen regarding gear has actually been the people who refuse to wear gear that synergize and benefit the group.
Its not toxic to be asked to be able to work as part of a team, its toxic to get upset about it.

Because I like to work towards making my characters better. The other MMOs I play have progression dungeons were you need to work at learning and clearing dungeon x and gaining the necessary gear before you can handle dungeon y. Spending hours learning a dungeon just to get a title above my head or for scores is dull for me and doesn’t motivate me to want to work towards dungeons that offer me useless gear. Hence why I prefer PvP. @MrBrownstone

And IMO ESO gear is very bland. There’s a lack of harder content giving gear that looks better than gear you earn at lvl 10 doing quests. ESO depends too much on the outfit system and I wish gear had noticeable visual differences for harder content compared to lower.

I burned out really bad on group content with family and friends in WoW and RIFT. The only reason I got to play that content with them in those games was BECAUSE they were family and friends - my connection has always been satellite as the only option (due to living in the back of beyond) and "normal" players wouldn't put up with it nor should they have.

By this time in my gaming life, I'm just done with group content - no interest at all, don't care about the gear. The only reasons I play ESO are 1: it's part of TES; 2: MMOs are cool because they aren't static the way SPMR games are.

I can't stand trials because I can't stand light weaving over and over again, or standing in a mass just spamming buttons furiously over and over again. I don't like that play style. Plus, needing healers spamming because of one-shot mechanic. Don't need trial gear nor titles. Am perfectly fine and enjoys the game more with overland contents, world bosses, dragons and harrowstorms where you are to use your skills like it is meant to be used; not having to spam light attack with every skills. Plus, many times, due to lag, delays or whatever, light attack doesn't even work.

Ha yeah I hate that weaving and spamming light attacks is a thing in this game. It distracts me from using my skills and just feels bad.

PvP has even more useless rewards. You misunderstood me. I'm talking about doing content for fun instead of gear. The exact reason i play PvP. For example i really enjoy Asylum Sanctorium, especially +2, despite the useless loot. I enjoy doing content that i learned to do, i want to actually play the game, not just for drops. I mean running content just for that content.

I enjoy dungeons (vet dlc dungeons, more specifically) because I like that feeling of progressing together with my group, getting better, figuring out the mechs and improving together. That moment when you finally get it down and 'dance' with the all the mechs, executing it perfectly, and your teammates do the same, is just so awesome! When I get bored I'll even pug them because it's kinda fun to try to figure it out with an inexperienced group (it brings a lot of novelty to the static content lol). I think they did a pretty awesome job at mechanics there, it takes time to learn and master them fully (and often people who have done the content many times actually don't know some intricate mechanic details), I enjoy that. I don't really care about gear that much, personally I'd honestly be fine if they just have everyone BiS gear for free because for me the joy is in the content itself - oh and the achievements to show off of course :p

I don't like trials all that much because I feel 12 people is bit too much, 4 I'm much more comfortable with. That's not to say Trial have no place in the game, of course, just not really my cup of tea.

The lack of in-game voice on PC is one of the things that make doing dungeons and trials annoying for me. Pugging is annoying when you can't easily talk to players. I'm in several guilds that do stuff together, but sometimes I just want to pug a quick dungeon and then I get communication issues.

I like and play both Dungeons and Trials.

    But...

The LFG tool for Dungeons is horrible, and all the faking of roles really make it no fun.

The wait times to get Trial groups and having to do it via chat is horrible.

Having no in game voice chat while in groups is also a really bad.

And if we synergize well enough I might even recommend hard mode on the final boss! Nothing quite as satisfying as just completely dominating a hard battle with incredible team work.

That aside I typically only like the DLC dungeons that feature special mechanics. Something to spice the gameplay up so its not the same old tank and burn we're so used to at this point. Why I PVP more than PVE because I'm always looking for the next big challenge.

    This, pretty much.

But don't keep your hopes up that things will change, because those rewards would increase the gap between "player skill" even further and that's something ZOS is trying to reduce.
ESO has a horizontal progression system because ZOS wants everything to be available to everyone, and a vertical progression system would achieve the complete opposite.

I enjoy dungeons you can play around with many different setups and still effective. I like trials but I personality feel no self progression with them so I stopped doing them for achievements after doing vAS(not +2). I can do the content I just don't enjoy it like other people, I rather do Solo/group arena's & dungeons instead.
