Sorry you don't care for the music so much but glad that turning it off and running your own tracks helps. I think a fair number of players do that. I quite like the background sound tracks for the game and appreciate that differing zones use differing tracks.

One thing I like is fighting world bosses. If I'm having a tough time of it, I never notice the background music, but often everything is going smoothly and that is when I notice the fight background music - that is when I really know I'm doing well and the boss is gonna lose. :)

OMG I didn't realize that the background music reacts to your progress, I will try that now.

BTW and a huge disclaimer but I make music for films and a game and I do find the music in this game rather less than awe-inspiring.

Like GrandPa said, don't be sad, get good!

I want to listen to your works now.

    Thank you :)

Here's the first. A historical piece as it got me into the game so to speak. Random guy at bar gets amazed at whats coming out of my laptop and buys my music <3

Whole games music is like 30 variations of the skyrim Intro combat music is bland and after so many dlcs they start to run together and sound alike couple stand out like i do like bleakrock at night tune. But game seriously needs to discover something other than lutes, harps, and choir chorus like pick up a drum and bang out a kicking tune. Not just any tune i also don't wanna hear savages around a campire banging the same rhythm for the next 30 dlcs. Sounds picky but the music sounds like non stop ending credit roll for a lord of the rings binge. Played many mmos that had kicking orchestra tunes and sometimes throw in a bit of orchestra/rock rifts that took tough dungeons and bosses up a notch.

I've enjoyed all of ESO's music except Greymoor - so I am REALLY tired of it being what I have to hear until I get someone logged in (and I was never very fond of WoW's at all, though RIFT's was okay).

But I much prefer Jeremy Soule's work, especially in Oblivion and Skyrim.

I'm fond of "Dawn Gleams on Cyrodiil" -- there's a section of interplay a minute in between voices and oboe that I like very much. We have a playlist of songs from pre-DLC days that we play in the car just to make it a nice, relaxing trip.

I haven't been as fond of newer songs, which seem to lend a creepy vibe to basic overland travel, and I've thus had Music volume off for quite a while. But I remember my early exploration days where I'd be hanging out in Evermore and my favorite song would play and I'd just watch the bustle of NPCs and players for a bit.

I don't actively dislike the music in ESO, but when you go back and listen to the OST for Skyrim and Oblivion, man do those have an impact...

Like, I watch Asmongold stream sometimes and he'd be in a raid and I think "Oh my, WoW has truly beautiful music" for 0.5 seconds before I realise he's playing the Skyrim OST on YouTube.

There's nothing in ESO that comes even close.

I don’t think I’ve noticed in PVE, but I’ve noticed in Cyro during particularly long fights the music is different from regular battle music. It’s simpler and more, hmm aggressive? I really like it and I think it adds to the fight itself.

Music that plays in the large PVP battles is what the devs called "Boss music". You only hear those tracks going up against boss monsters and the like. In small PVP skirmishes the small encounter music plays, and in decently sized fights the standard combat music plays.

Okay, thanks. For whatever reason, even though I have more things to pay attention to in PVP, I notice the music more than in PVE, strange lol.

Unfortunately, there is no catchy and good music in this game. Compared to 3-5 Scrolls of course. Just one battle music in the game, are u kidding, ZOS? And that awful music in Greymoor chapter.

I actually like most of eso music, except combat tracks. There are too few of them, so it feels very repetitive. Add more variety to combat music! I'm not asking for Dark Souls-kind themes for every boss, but at least different themes for different dungeons could give them more identity in terms of sound.

Speaking of the bards, I cringe whenever I hear a male singing in the game, but the females usually sound nice. The male singers sound strained to me. Anyone else ever feel that way?

Fantasy music sounds like fantasy music?

The soundtrack isn't too different to that of Skyrim's and other heavy fantasy games.

Dunno. I like the music in Dragon Age. Lelianna's song is excellent when you're not watching the awful mouth movements or corny animations. The main theme stands out too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWFEVbfCcOY

TES has nothing even close to that. It does feel like generic fantasy music. Though, it doesn't really bother me either way. Never paid it much attention because it is just generic stuff. What does irritate me are those music boxes. No idea how people can keep them on and spend hours in their housing instances. Yeah, they do grate on me.

Murmured, Blackreach, Sunmerset, Vvardenfell, all of these tunes resonate with me or check that sweet nostalgia box, especially in Vvardenfell. But I played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, and I have a huge appreciation for Elder Scrolls lore, and I personally adore the music. Just something that comes from decades of adoration for such related content I suppose.

The base game music is rather uninspired, especially that weird depressing track that plays in Deshaan and other zones (I can't even find the name of the track- it plays when you're in the Velothi Reverie though and makes it way too atmospheric). I've got two tracks, however, that are among my very favorite video game tracks- the Brass Fortress theme, and Ascadian Idyll from Morrowind (it plays when you're over by Gnosis). Overall, the DLCs tend to have better music.

I like the Greymoor menu music, but there's something about it that's very Bloodborne-y, so it just makes me want to listen to that far superior soundtrack instead.

No shade on the musicians but the games usage of music is, boring, did I say repetitive?

As my grandfather said to me "Don't curse the darkness, light a light"

So I max the ambient etc, mute the music and play good stuff in the background.

I really like the ambient sounds but the bards can sometimes be defiling [snip] sometimes.

Curtaros is my most disliked voice in the whole game as I can only do Alinor writs by starting outside the area or I have to hear his dreadful voice, woe is me.

    Nevermind

I like certain ones more than others. Heart of Nirn is my personal favorite. I also really like New Orsinium. But a lot of the others are kind of boring. It's the battle themes that really gets old to me, though. It's too repetitive and lacks variety and if there was an option to turn it off and listen to the background music instead I would use it.

I have the music turned down in the options and play Spotify instead through my console. Unfortunately it's not "tied" to what happens in game (like combat music, etc) but honestly, I don't even notice that most of the time.

I like some of the zone tracks. I find the one in the Reach really pleasant, and I'm one of the seemingly few that really likes the Greymoor theme. I really dislike the combat music. The small encounter music sounds very discordant, and there are only a couple or few boss tracks, which can seem inappropriate and too high octane for some of the encounters. And, no dragon music??

I run with the music off most of the time, because I got used to the style of Soulsborne games with their ambient sounds setting the tone. I do wish there were compelling boss tracks, though.

I personally like the music, especially certain zones (❤️ Murkmire), but after five years of play, I do tend to plug my headset into my phone and play music more nowadays. I also accidentally discovered recently that some good ol' Classical helps to keep my head a little more calm and the adrenaline rush down a bit in the midst of a tough battle in Cyrodiil, lol, so bonus? 😆

Any music will get repetitive if you listen to it for hours on end.
One of the reasons I love Murkmire's soundtrack is that it is fairly minimalist and ambient.
But in general I do turn it off from time to time.

The new bard music introduced with Greymoor and the Greymoor DLCs is not-at-all ES inspired. It's not bad, but it does not fit the theme of the previous compositions. The newest composition from MArkarth - which I hear play frequently at the Undaunted camp - sounds like something from Rimworld. It just hits weird when you hear something like Red Diamond, then whatever the name of that new one is; totally different styles, stepping, everything.

    #1. Skyrim's music was better.

#2. I can't stand so much of the combat music. Especially the small fight music. I think I would rather not have combat music for small fights. Save it for the boss battles.
