Hate whispers and toxicity

It needs to be stated that since ZOS decided to destroy the performance and balance in this game that the toxicity has increased GREATLY especially in PvP, people get grouchy when they are dealing with constant spells not working or desynchs, it wears on peoples nerves to be repeatedly killed by the servers and massively overtuned PROC sets, or getting zerged down because of 3 way battle design philosophy. People are responsible for how they conduct themselves but you cannot ignore how the poor choices of the devs impact the players.

Nothing puts people in a good mood like hearing we are getting another sweeping change content patch when there are bugs and game breaking balance issues that have been going on for many months that are not being even mentioned in the current PTS or anywhere aside from players every day all day.

Yes, toxicity has gone up in direct proportion to declining game performance and poor customer service/communication.

Yeah, to be honest, I can see this also playing a role in PvP for sure. I will never be able to comprehend how multiple proc sets could be worn simultaneously and all be triggered by ONE skill. Allowing that to go live was a worse call than the Seahawks passing the ball on the one yard line smh.....Yes, it still burns..Till This Day lol

Or perhaps coinciding with a different type of player participating in the free trial?

Just another reason why MMOs should move toward more solo content.
    [snip]

Another idea might be to bring in Private Worlds. Large guilds with enough active members (e.g., 100 online) can spawn their own overland/world instance that only guild members can enter and that only has guild chat, not world chat.

I really can't wrap my head around why people get legitimately worked up about hate comments from 12 year olds, neckbeards, and basement dwellers. Unless you yourself fall into any of those categories you should maybe get a chuckle out of their rage and then immediately move on. These people should be beyond irrelevant to you, and by getting upset about the things they say you let them win.

While I do see how you may come to that conclusion, iirc, the OP stated that he/she had experienced personal lose that related to the insult. While I consider myself pretty thick skinned, having lived through poverty as a child, having deployed 4 times as a Service member and seen a few things that I wouldn't like to see again, I can still find it within myself to empathize with someone insulted by words that has caused them personal pain. It shouldn't mean they fall into a category, it should mean that they are human!

So, I was just doing the daily pledges - Vet Darkshade 2. I was running it on my healer, with a tank and 2 DD's. 1 dd with 810 cp and the other around 200-ish cp.
    - The 200 CP already struggled with the first trash pull and died, cause he didn't have food on. Was telling him kindly to put some food on, cause he was running at around 11K.

I noticed rather quick that the dmg was low, I was running around 30% of the dmg with my healer - Having Hollow, olo and earthgore on. So when the 200-ish CP died again on the first boss I decided this wouldn't be worth the time. I then wrote in game I was leaving 'cause it would be too much of a struggle.
    - Then the 200 cp decided hate whisper me telling me to get cancer.

Save to say I am shook about this. I was looking forward to having a nice chill sunday, playing some eso - but having lost family memebers to this awful disease, that cancer is. I am now instead forced to put energy into not letting this ruin my entire day and not letting a knob like that win.
    - But this is just, yet another reminder of why I cannot stand doing anything group related in game (unless it's a premade group). The fun is taken out of it when you have to hear people either wishing the worst for you or someone on your team, because they have problems with themselves and their toxicity.

I know it's almost daily you see this, either in dungeons or in zone chats.
What goes on in peoples mind to feel like they can go around saying *** like this to others?
It's just a game - isn't this supposed to be a community where you can expand and have a fun chat with others? Get to know people ect.

I would love to see the consequences for people acting this way much bigger than they are.

Can't we all just be nice to one another instead of this?

You don't know peoples stories, you don't know what they are dealing with - so with kindness you come a long way.

I agree, as of late there seems to be nothing but WoW kids everywhere. This weekend alone I've been T-bagged like 3 times. Whereas I used the get T-bagged like once every 3 months before, when I used to play more.

Are we seriously complaining about getting T-bagged?

I feel like there are....so many other things we could be addressing.

Meh the crap that is going on right now still doesn't compare to the death and swatting threats folks use to (sometimes still do ) received for the high crime of riding a Radiant mount.

Don't worry it's going to get much much worse though...cause Microsoft is in the house or rather owns the house

The DD wasn't being nice with the hate whisper, though you werent being nice by abandoning the group after one Boss on a base game dungeon. Especially since you're the Healer and it would take them a long time waiting for another to queue. Not singling you out, just multiple things went wrong with your story.

The most you can do is report the player for harassment. Better if you took a screenshot of the chat log.

When I was farming Moon Hunter, I'd run that zone several times a day as a tank. It really is obvious at the first boss if the group has a chance of finishing the zone. I've had to leave several times and got hate whispers for it. I did feel bad for any tank they may have picked up after I left. Likewise I've zoned into a half finished zone and knew right away why the original tank left. Watching DPS run around doing their precious rotation while the boss has the tank pinned down for the 1 shot attack, is a sure way to see the tank leave.

Instead of leaving why didn't you kick the [snip]? I know you said you did 30%of the dps but if tank and other dps were decent why screw them over. People have really short fuse lately. Every other vet dlc dungeon I do, someone leaves. People sometimes leave as soon as we port in or someone mentions it's their first time. Dps queues are long and if tank or healer leaves it often breaks group and back to the long queue. [snip] There may be only 1 bad player in group but what about the other 2? Think about how you ruin their run. I dont justify what the dps whispered you but op acted selfishly.

I'm trying to say if the game worked smoothly that toxicity would go down accordingly. As performance as degraded over the last couple years, toxicity has gone up. It's a long term trend, not an event repercussion.

Agreed, leaving is a terrible choice because it leaves the capable players in the group to suffer.
And op doesn’t really save time from it either. Kicking is way more logical and it benefits 3 people.

Edit: forgot to mention, I would not call op selfish, I don’t believe he gained from leaving

This kind of abhorrent behavior is good for absolutely nothing...and certainly doesn't motivate people to invest more time and money in the experience. IMO, if behavior like this can be proven via screenshot, there should be zero tolerance. You do it...you're gone. No questions asked.

It happens, but you can’t really be blamed for not wanting to waste your time carrying them with healing and doing their share of the damage for them. It’s your free time, don’t waste it on random people and ignore the salt. It’s most likely been the same story for them in majority of content and they’re getting mad frustrated and not actually learning from it, just beating their head against a wall and taking it out on others.

Group with friends/guildies or atleast 1 dd that hits decent numbers. That way you can off-dd and if the random dies, it’s no biggie as you two have it covered. Also ignore the people saying you’re acting selfish. Again, your free time. You choose if it’s worth it or not. You’re not obligated to stay if you are unhappy with the group.

Ah yes, being banned for mean words. (Racial slurs are understandable, though.)

But just general toxicity? If they did that they'd be losing money and then you wouldn't have a game anymore.

Ah yes, so I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone in the overworld privately if they're from a different faction? Wouldn't that kind of go against everything One Tamriel tried to achieve.

Unless, of course, you mean in just Cyrodiil.

Unless you do group activity more than you do solo activity, you are playing more with bots than with people already. Like during the tutorial. And doing writs. Do you run around even overland with a group?

What Genshin has done is basically made in-game chat/socialization opt-in. What the ESO community is like makes people increasingly opt-OUT. And not just by blocking people, either. Some people completely turn off zone chat for example.

In my experience it is exactly that. Each time there is a free ESO plus week I get negative experiences in pug groups while outside this free trial time this is noticeable less. I get it, everyone might have a bad day and type something to vent their frustrations but oh boy, those free ESO plus trials are like a magnet to toxic trolls attempting to deliberately ruining players good mood. I avoid pugging during free ESO plus weeks, I just play this game for entertainment, and I do not treat people like they are cardboard players nor do I wish to be treated as one.

Might be just me but I see angry messages in 1 out of 100 dungeons or even less. It's been more than a year since I got a hate tell in pvp (and I ganked through the entire IC event). Even zones are just game-related chats and advertisements.

This, now vDS2 is not an dungeon I would bothered with if group was headless chickens with 11 K health. Not so very technical but pretty impossible if they can not follow instructions as in stay on healer during poison on the last boss, ideally tanks pulls the adds below the boss, dd and healer can help marking out these adds once under the boss they dies in AoE.

If some has low food and refuses / don't understand that he should eat you should assume they are inexperienced and that they will also not understand instructions.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
